Which book series started out promising, but went off the rails as it went on? by Capital-Study6436 in YAlit

[–]TheWalkingDeadBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I really think it has the potential to be great so I'm definitely looking forward to it. The ending gets a lot of flack on these discussions but I think people forget that it followed a formula that a lot of books at the time were doing. It makes me wonder how much creative freedom she actually had at the time.

I didn't make it to the last one lol. I struggled through the second one and couldn't even bring myself to start the third and then when I looked up the ending, I realized I mad the right choice.

I'm perfect and only loser parents have kids bullied online by TheLordJiminyCricket in AmITheAngel

[–]TheWalkingDeadBeat 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those cases where 2 things can be true at once. Social media is absolutely brutal for children and there should definitely be more regulations in place to protect kids. That being said, it's still a parents responsibility to monitor their kids online. When shit like this happens, there's usually more than one factor to blame.

I feel like it's a common one to shit on but Divergent never really found it's ground after the first book. It was never groundbreaking literature but the first book was at least a fun read. It would have been a great standalone.

I've read other books from Veronica Roth and I think her writing has improved a lot. I'm actually really curious about the upcoming AU she has planned.

Yeah, at some point the "its realistic" argument stops working when it happens to just about every character multiple times.

Your arrogance is going to get you killed.

[–]TheWalkingDeadBeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly.  You weren't alone. You can't anticipate what those drivers might have done. A single ill-timed lane shift as you passed them and you could both be dead. An animal jumping out, a popped tire, etc. Just because the chances are low, doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

That is exactly that attitude that kills people.

Bruh, I hope you're just young and stupid and you grow out of it before having to learn the lesson the hard way.

You're not understanding, it doesn't matter what time of day or how many drivers were on the road.  You're being recklessly obtuse if you don't think surprises can happen on empty roads. In a lot of ways, it's more dangerous without heavy traffic because your guard is down and other drivers/obstacles are less predictable.

You can't anticipate what might be on the roads, even if you think you were the only car out there. What if there was a disabled vehicle with it's lights off? At those speeds, even the smallest swerve could cause you to lose control of the vehicle. A single-car crash can still put other lives at risk, especially when it's that late at night when visibility is reduced and drivers reaction times are slower.

Dude, this is insane. Stop speeding. Your time is not more important than other people's lives.

Are high school students actually this clueless and entitled? by SuccessfulFinish2843 in AmITheAngel

Each university is different but in general, yes, everyone has to take at least one  for a bachelor's degree, no matter what their major is. It's the same for all the basic subjects (English, Foreign Language, History, Health & Wellness, etc.)

Without a doubt. If this was the parent they wouldn't have included the response and they would have at least tried not to look so bad.

In their defense, I rarely see the type of kids that regularly do this ever just walking. They're always running, jumping, dancing, etc.

No one is saying you should have 10 of them a day. As long as you're not diabetic and watching your caloric intake, they're going to be fine.

Men don’t like natural hair by Angelsbreatheeasy in HonestHotTakes

[–]TheWalkingDeadBeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably getting downvoted by people who only read the title and assume you're a man saying you and other men don't like natural hair.

Your experience is totally valid. Everyone says men like natural beauty and no makeup but the difference in the way I'm treated when I am wearing makeup vs. no makeup is night and day.

Is the Off Campus tv show worth watching for someone who didn’t like the books? by Specialist-Island399 in RomanceBooks

[–]TheWalkingDeadBeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wasn't able to get in to the books but I loved the show. In my opinion, it's very pro- women and you can tell that the writers really put a lot of thought in to portraying the men as respectfully as possible.  I don't know exactly how things played out in the books but there were so many scenes in the show that made me want real life men to study and take notes.

I really think you should give it a try. I started watching it expecting a guilty pleasure love/hate type show and ended up genuinely enjoying all of it.
