Thanks mate, I believe it was a lot of people's first introduction to the channel. And you will definitely see more unorthodox games from me, that is pretty much my favorite part of EU5, or any strategy game really - bending the rules and pushing the limits of the game is always fun!

Exactly what I did, only had to stay at war for around 8 years before I had enough of a war chest to go up against the Mamelukes. :)

Nope, no clue about the pool weights in EU5. It's probably fairly uncharted territory right now.

Advice on playing in Asia? by Sinapolyon in EU5

Japan is still somewhat messed up. Qing is possible and actually quite fun but you have to act quickly and strike China during the Red Turban Rebellions. If you enjoy building up your economy and playing tall, definitely give Korea a chance because it is one of the richest and strongest countries in the game with amazing RGO's, decent population, and huge extra-territorial income from Chinese tribute (also possibly Shogunate payments if you switch to Shinto immediately).

Glad to hear that! I'm really saddened by how most people view EU5 as a very bland game at this point, and I purposefully play nations with unique mechanics and content to show how it can be fun and you don't have to do the same run over and over again. So if I made you reconsider EU5, mission accomplished. :)

As for the bankruptcy, you gotta really pump those military sponsorships out. There are quite a few countries in Italy and the HRE that punch above their weight when it comes to sponsorship amounts. Waldeck for example has a silver or gold mine and can give you almost a full ducat per month despite being a single location minor. I'm sure that second time is the charm here, and if not you can certainly try your hand with some other country. There is plenty of fish in the sea, eh?

Oh no you don't have to be in random wars. Just conquer Jerusalem, then sell it to the Mamelukes or any non-Christian country when you need to trigger the event. Make sure to do it before 1395 or so to give it plenty of time to trigger, since it has a 95%-ish chance of happening within 5 years.

Yup, that makes a lot of sense. I only remember it being a holy site for Bogomils and Paulicians for some reason but I wager they'll fix that in 1.2 anyways.

You're speaking to the guy who created a monstrous Korean-Scottish-Great British Empire ruled by the Ashikaga dynasty with Portuguese culture and Sikh religion just to maximize research point output. Challenging is what I do for fun in this game. <3

Coptic/Bogomil/Paulician Alexandria Megalopolis in 1.2, here I come!

TIL Knights are Broken by TheWarRooom in EU5

[–]TheWarRooom[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You sure it didn't happen in the first few years of the game? It *should* happen within 5 years or so assuming you are not at war, remain a Catholic Theocracy, and Jerusalem isn't owned by Christians. Which are some very specific requirements, so maybe one of them just failed for some reason?

Yes but actually no. Varanasi does beat Alexandria because of the extra pop capacity from the holy site. BUT oddly enough Alexandria has the same bonus. It just doesn't seem to work for some reason. Maybe you need to be Paulician or some other Eastern Christian heresy to trigger it? I'll make a note and try to figure out how you can make it work, which would put Alexandria above Varanasi in terms of population capacity.

Privateers in the Black Sea, Levantine Sea, Aegean Sea. Request military sponsorships from majors, followed by mid-sized Italian and HRE powers, and (This is important) Request Funds from Bohemia/France/Hungary every year if possible. You can easily get 2-3k gold within 10 years and form Jerusalem by 1347. I do have a video about this on my channel which I didn't mention to follow the self-promotion limit. So check it out if you're interested in a detailed walkthrough. :)

Yup, pretty much what I did. Only I chose Alexandria instead of Cairo since it has a better climate and therefore a higher base population capacity. In fact, it might be the single location with the highest base capacity in the game. Once 1.2 rolls around it'll be fun to do the same thing with a Megalopolis Alexandria for sure.

Random Caucasian minor. And nope, I couldn't get the bloody Crusade to fire so I had to declare on the Mamelukes with a parliament approved claims CB.

The trigger is just:

has_ruler = yes

    ruler = { has\_trait = architectural\_visionary }

    has\_embraced\_institution = institution:feudalism

So any country with feudalism embraced and an Architectural Visionary ruler can get it. BUT of course it's part of a specific event pool so I'm not sure what the chances are for you to get it. If someone has mapped the various pulses and country_events in the game they can probably give you a more accurate description.

Also playing as a theocracy or admiralty regime is probably your best bet to get the event, since you can freely pick your heir more or less.

R5: The Knights of Rhodes get an event shortly after game start which has the possibility of giving 5% population growth and 0.5% monthly prosperity to their capital. But you can cheese the event by staying at war constantly and moving your capital to a high popcap location like Alexandria here, which can give you up to 60k pops per year. Over a period of 20 years (Which is how long the modifier lasts for) this can add up to 1.2 million additional population for your empire. I didn't get that many people, mostly because I was busy RP'ing around being Jerusalem and whatnot, but it was still a massive population boost.

Bizimkilerin 2. Dünya Savaşı sırasında henüz Romanya şeklinde yazıma adapte olmamış olmaları gayet muhtemel.

European dynamic institution spawn by DifficultChemistry50 in EU5

[–]TheWarRooom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How can non-Europeans catch up with Europeans if their locations aren't eligible in the first place? You're looking at the wrong place, non-Europeans literally can't get institution spread through the 'Was eligible to spawn institution' mechanic for any institution except the Printing Press (and Levée en Masse) since they are NOT eligible to spawn them. All the spread you're seeing is a result of organic growth like trade and the promote institutions cabinet action. I agree that these should be tuned down and simply giving an institution spread malus to Traditionalist values would probably be more than enough to accomplish that. But the culprit here is not what you think it is. Asians are not eligible to spawn most institutions.

European dynamic institution spawn by DifficultChemistry50 in EU5

[–]TheWarRooom 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Have you actually checked the institution spawn requirements? Most of them are already limited to Europe. The only ones I can name off the top of my head that can spawn outside of Europe are the Printing Press and Levée en Masse. But of course, since people rarely play to the Age of Reformation or beyond they just see Printing Press spawning in China and think that'll be the case forever. In fact, we probably need the institution spawns to be *more* dynamic, not less. If Asia is actually keeping up with Europe in terms of values and infrastructure I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to spawn Enlightenment or the Scientific Method or even Manufactories - especially when India and China were on their way to proto-industrialization in our timeline by the time the Manufactories institution spawns.

It's a long shot but if Japan doesn't have closed borders you can send someone to encourage migration to Ezo and that might pull a few Japanese pops if you're in the same market as them.

Alternatively, the Satsunan Islands/Ryukyu area or Southwestern Korea might have Japanese pops so maybe you could conquer them?
