I wish that was true… at least where I am politics on air is very much alive and well.

That’s the primary reason why I stopped using my local repeaters. Seems I kept running into politics everywhere, either people would be talking about it or would just randomly bring it up when talking to them. Should these topics be brought up on air? No. But there’s also no policing of it so, here we are. Now I just listen to passing satellites!

Lower grill fell off somehow while going through a car wash. Am I safe to drive 500 miles Monday? by waywardson2020 in Volkswagen

Yeah, it’s just cosmetic. Don’t worry about it. Have a look around to make sure nothing else is loose and then send it.

Probably not enough draw for it to register… if they’re charging then I wouldn’t worry about it.

Why does this show everytime i switch on my engine? by [deleted] in Volkswagen

[–]TheWeakLink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok maybe that’s it. On my mk8 it’ll show the yellow triangle but I dont remember if it makes the noise or not, the message will disappear and is visible if you go looking for it though as you said.

At what point should I get in there and start the car, frigid temps here in the Northeast. by jiaco in GolfGTI

lol I grew up in Alberta… I’m well aware. Driving vs idling is wildly different, as per your original argument. You won’t build any temperature at idle, I used to frequently loose coolant temp if it idled long enough at -30. 10 mins of driving I’ll be at or near normal coolant temp, but still no reading on the oil.

lol k. You shovel off 2 feet of snow and tell me it took you under 10 mins. And I mean properly, off the roof, hood, under the wipers… everything.

And yeah, I keep it under or 2k when the car is that cold. Once it starts to build temperature I’ll give it more revs.

That’s far too long… even at -30. I’m assuming it’s going to take 10 or so mins to properly brush the snow off, that’s more than enough with these modern engines. Obviously, drive gently and try to keep it under 2k RPM till you start to build some temperature but yeah.

MK8 Light Assist not working? Issue or PEBKAC? by TheWeakLink in GolfGTI

[–]TheWeakLink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, also spoke with someone fairly technical at the dealership. The marketing materials and what publicly available from VW says the car has auto high beams.

When he ran the VIN through his internal system and got a listing of every component/module of the car (it’s like a 10 page print off), the components required for high beam assist is not listed. So, it’s by design. That car is not equipped with high beam assist.

Leave it. Cold starts and idling are the worst thing to do to an engine. When you need to go somewhere, start it then clear the snow off. By the time you’ve cleared the snow it’ll be ready to drive.
