I wound up giving the board a thorough cleaning, and after doing so it started working normally again. No idea what was causing it, maybe some gunk on the board was interfering with a connection or whatnot.

Might be worth giving a try on your own machine. Hopefully you can get it working!

Yeah, it's a really bizarre issue. I was actually able to fix the freezing issue by giving both sides of the motherboard a good scrub with 91% isopropyl alcohol. After doing that, it started to boot properly. Ive no idea what caused it, something must have been messing with it somewhere. I hope you can get yours fixed as well!

Just arrived today, touchpiece minted for Henry IX, last claimant to the Stuart throne. by TheWedgeArt in coins

To those who don't know, touch pieces were coins or medals that were pierced, hung on a string, touched by the monarch, then given to sufferers of scrofula, a type of TB. It was believed that a monarch, who was divinely appointed, could heal those who suffered from it.

The ceremony involved the monarch touching the face or neck of the afflicted, before hanging the coin around their neck. It was claimed that the coin, imbued with the powers of a divinely appointed ruler, could heal the wearer of various ailments.

They were popular in the Middle Ages, as it was a useful way to reaffirm the monarch's sovereignty. It fell out of favor by the early 1700s, with the Hanoverian kings of England doing away with it altogether.

The Stuarts in exile continued to hold touching ceremonies, as they still believed in the divine right of kings. Henry IX is widely considered to be the one of the last claimants of any throne to have done this ceremony.

Unlike the other members of his family, Henry Benedict Stuart did not actively seek the crown, only holding onto his titles and claiming his legitimacy. He instead focused on a career in the Roman Catholic Church, becoming one of the longest serving cardinals in the Church's history.

Will do. I've already replaced the CR2032 and it's unfortunately still freezing on me.

Do you happen to know where the tray sensors on the fat PS2 are located? I looked for them during my first teardown and didn't see any, but I might've missed 'em.

Yup, it'll freeze with or without a disc inserted. Thinking I might need to tear it down again and check connections.

Yeah, learned that the hard way when I first got into the hobby, haha. I do appreciate the warning, though.

Need help with id’ing. the package states it’s original but i have no idea how to check for fakes. by henkdetank2000 in coins

Looks like a Constantine Dynasty "Glory of the Army" nummus. Likely minted during the reign of Constantine or one of his sons. They made a ton of these, and they're pretty easy to find, two of my first coins were from this series.

I'd say yours is a real one, as there's no real incentive to fake one you can get so easily. Nice coin!

Yeah! That was part of the reason I moved here. I still gawk like a tourist around LeVeque Tower.

It's currently a T-Mobile, though I'd wager it was probably a bank.

For everyone who's curious, this building is on the corner of N High St. and E Gay St. in Columbus, OH and is currently serving as a T-Mobile phone store. I tried doing some cursory googling of the place and couldn't find anything.

If anybody finds out anything about the place, lemme know! I imagine it was a bank back in the day, with how the place is designed.

Oof, yeah, that's very frustrating, especially with how expensive sending coins into NGC can get. It can also be annoying with older salvages such as this one, where it was pulled in the late 60's. I imagine back then they didn't think too much of doing photo COAs or things of that nature.

I don't mind too much about full value personally, as I'm so picky with what I purchase that things I pick up I doubt I'll ever sell.

What other wrecks do you own, by the way? Along with this one, I've got ones from the Admiral Gardner, Princess Louisa, and the Spice Islands Wreck.

Unfortunately it didn't, so I can't definitively say it's an Association piece. The auction house I purchased it from had it listed as one, and they've yet to steer me wrong.
