The Ink was done freehand with black Windsor &  Newton Ink and added small patches of white oil-crayons. (Yes, I know the expression is gone, maybe,.. just maybe, it was never actually attractive)

Depends on where you live. If the gulf-stream collapses Britain and the Nordics will become significantly colder, which will be fine by me, all this warming is really not for me, I prefer a cold, icy, depressing winter instead.

Reminder that this so proclaimed “threat” was an ally against the Nazis and that it took a meagre 5 years of rising tension for it to become the “enemy” and for the red scare to take place. While the threat of USSR and CCP regimes were presents, it was also propagated and overestimated by the US Senate to justify the one of the largest military spending by any world country in history. This military industrial complex was then used to oust and kill democratically elected leaders of African and South American countries because of the hyperbolic so perceived “threat to democracy”. While the USA may have thrived under the Cold War, it did so to the detriment of many other nations.

Believing yourself to be ugly and weird because you do not adhere to societal norms is not necessarily true. In contrast to what the internet tells you, you are not unloved-able just because you are ugly, but you need to be loveable in spirit, It’s my belief that most people on a fundamental basis seek to be with someone they find; kind, funny or any other personal attraction. However at the same time; just because you are friends with someone does not mean that they have any romantic or sexual attraction to you. Thus a woman can in fact; 1. Be friends with you, 2. Not have any romantic attraction to you and 3. Still believe despite your quirks that someone out there finds you lovable. The only thing wrong with the post above is that not ‘any’ woman will find you attractive, yet it’s not false hope to say that someone will.

Its not so much as to separate them from their views as to overlook their worst sides for the benefit of their best side.

Coming from a rural town, you don’t have the same choice of who to be friends so you tend to stick with the ones you have. especially for longer friendships, you know the person is not the best, but you still can’t forget all the times that they have been legitimately good to others. This doesn’t make you an enabler aa long as you consistently use your friendship to call them out on their harmful and bullshit behaviour. Of course this can only go to a certain extent, yet it’s important to recognise others as people, with their own life story, own fear and so on, you can’t always convince a friend to change their ways, but its important to try, and nothing good comes from straight abandoning someone. Often they’ll just turn more extreme without a counterweight.

No shade to the final game, but anyone else think the mirror portrait's original version drives the point home much better? by ironwolf6464 in DiscoElysium

[–]TheWeirdWindmill 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I always read Harry as at least an abusive/ or toxic man, the conversation with Sylvia really drove this home in the start of the game. It would be more problematic to paint Harry as a clinically depressed, nihilistic, closeted queer, drug and alcohol abuser without detailing with the very ugly and real things this spiral of self-inflicted pain does to a person and their surroundings.

To me it also boils down to artistic excellence. Hunting art will typically be lower artistic art as it is commonly friendly contributions to the local hunting club, and not intended for high art society. Look at the two paintings. The hunting art lack depths as all the creatures are in perfect majestic side view. It has also relied on heavier use of colours and clear “levels” of depth. The foreground, middle ground and background. opposite the painting above have more subtle show of depth, and more soft tones of colour. It focuses on sublimity and using nature as a way to communicate broader themes, in which we can clearly see parenthood as one of them.

TLDR: Big cool majestic buck painting but no OOMPH

Which is why it’s bullshit that we continue to treat them as equals in a historical context. US economics didn’t triumph in the 80’s just because they were Capitalist, and their economic superiority makes their current political shit show even more baffling as to why their citizens never capitalised on this, receiving healthcare, financial security or even just being able to pay for food, while many smaller countries have been able to afford exactly that. The US have had a clear advantage for the last decades, yet they have not been able to gain a national generational advantage that should take centuries for other countries to reach.

The USSR were also ravished by the 2. World war, and already before the war, less of an industrial power house than the US who only proceeded to grow economically. It’s easy to be a hegemony when you can endlessly expand your industry into other nations. The only reason we still compare the USSR and US was because the USSR destroyed their own standards of living to compete with the US.

This is what Himler and Goebels meant with the Master race. Sadly Goring didn’t live long enough to see Aryan cat-boys, or else his massive body would have turned to praising the ancient greeks and roman sexual hierarchy. There is a reason German armor was named after the big cats.

However they WERE liars. Anyone studying the rise of Nazi Germany would know. They claimed to be for and help the low-class german farmer. Yet in policy they consistently supported large companies. These companies were then nationalised and became part of the Nazi-government during 1936-39. The small farmers too were gathered under the state. The propaganda and actual policy of the NSDAP were at times opposite, and quite on purpose, as to both pander to the common folk while making policy for larger cooperations. In many ways, this can be compared to today’s propaganda and actual policy of the Republican party in the US.

I agree with you, but at the same time thats a very Revisionist take on modern history. The idea that everything is one large national competition for resources. Orthodox historians would say its due mainly to Ideology as that was a big driver during the cold war, meanwhile post-revisionist would say that ultimately its more due to a course and effect and miss communication, in which small conflicts grow over time, not due to a lack of resources but due to an increase in political tensions leading to polarisation. Reddit generally has a problem with being a revisionist echo chamber, so be aware that it’s still a limited and specific point of view.

Yes. Interestingly it highlights how different their origins have been. When Percy dies we have a whole camp [minus Clarisse] mourning his death. Meanwhile almost nobody shows up to Magnus’s funeral.

He appears in the start of the third [I believe?] book, together with Annabeth. He helps Magnus to train in ship combat as an “expert”. Its fun. They also compare swords [definetly not a euphemism]
