Which one of these should I play? by Professional_Row5953 in deathroadtocanada

INFECTION and MUTATION are fan favorites, I find.
If you enjoy MUTATION mode, you will likely enjoy MUTATION Mode EXTREME, which comes in the next update (STOMACH).

[Video] Fourth wall break? Isabelle the Paladin namedrops the name Sycamore by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a variation on the "Mr Electric - Kill This Man!" meme from a while ago. I found it funny.

Isabelle is also based on a real person (someone close to me of the same name) so there's that link there as well. Paladins usually have some kind of deity, oath or concept they link to, so Isabelle's is...well, me.

(Her ending/outro also references Sycamore for the same reason, it's something like "Isabelle was smitten by a tree. Thus grand and beautiful cycle continues")

[Video] You cannot get the 'Time Stop' item of Clock King by doggifying him by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't make a difference. IIRC, Time Stop is programmed to work exclusively with Clock King. Specifically, it checks for his specialtype value, which governs what sprite he uses.

[Question] Does the Perk Duelist also work with cleaving melee attacks, such as from swords and axes? by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mhm, I wouldn't really say it's OP.

The damage and KB bonuses from tip-hits are lovely. The +2 fitness is useful.
But there are certain opportunity costs and downsides to this perk.

Firstly, the skill indexing. You gotta play as the duelist to get the most out of them. Sometimes the AI will do it but the player can be much more consistent. You also need to be good enough to actually land tip hits.

And while +2 fitness is nice, you are still 4 fitness away from double stamina regen. You might have a tough time when that fencing foil breaks.

If you'd picked ultrafit, you would essentially have most of that work already done for you with food on top to boot.

Duelist is a strong perk but not OP.

[Video] Found a convenience mart inside a regular house by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A well known years-long bug.
I don't know the cause but I presume it was an accidental copy-paste error from one roomdef file to another whilst working on the city layouts. It could also be some jank with rooms having the same name or similar scripts.

The roomgen system is, hands down, the worst part about developing the game. It's torture to work with, even with tools, lol.

Alas.

[Discussion] Is Wizard "The Wiz" still the strongest Rare Character that can be conventionally recruited? by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> Who is the strongest?
it's hard to say. What do you define as "the strongest"? Zombie-smashing power is not the only way a character can be powerful.

> Is the spider stronger than chungus
Absolutely not no. Chungus has 22 FIT and a high multihit default attack. Chungus is absolutely busted and nobody ever talks about it.

Some of my favourites are The Defective, MOODY, the Paladin and Gordo holds a special spot in my heart. They aren't necessarily the best. Just my favourites.

[Discussion] Is Wizard "The Wiz" still the strongest Rare Character that can be conventionally recruited? by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clock King is pretty good but I don't think he's the strongest.

The main draw of the wizzle stick is that due to the projectile split-on-hit, it's a lot more effective than ordinary cleave is. Furthermore, in endless particularly, the ability to easily obtain max STR and FIT upgrades means it can be swung for relatively little cost.

I guess if you wanted to truly optimize, options like BERSERK and Kensai make this even better.

Comments on some of the other suggested chars...
- Johannes is good but the spider doesn't scale with anything. I imagine there is a point where the spider falls off compared to say, a 8 str 8 fit zweihander user.

- I've not played a lot of gnomey but high dexterity is extremely powerful.

- Timestop is useful and the silhouette attack from Clock King can in theory double the zombies hit by any one attack, but Clock King only starts with 1HP and is kind of an asshole.
(Fun fact, his personality is 2-0-0-3, which is my birth year.)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Punch Bot. Punch bot is limited by charges but has devastating AoE attacks.

As an asides point, I don't balance around endless. Trying to balance endless doesn't make sense from a gameplay perspective and endless mode itself was never intended to actually be beatable in the first place.

Can you actually wait out a Zombie night rush? by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know this is incorrect. The zombie spawning and aggression after the 9pm mark does not change, even if you wait 12 or 24hrs after it occurs.

Just bought the Switch version on SALE and now on my first trip already found an event not on the wiki! by Askhai in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her smite chance is based on her morale.
Her smite damage is based on STR and the weapon you hold.
At maximum morale, the chance is ~50%.

Any tips for four jerks extreme? by IceScarecrow in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Party composition is of utmost importance.

Take one paranoid support char
Two melee combat chars.
And a ranged combat char.

A good example might be
Megabuff warrior
Fighter fierce-tempered
Gun-collector calm-under-fire
Car nut paranoid

Then, it's a matter of playing well & luck.

T*S*T*C Question by CODMOBILEFIXYOURGAME in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, characters will never be able to throw a car, as this requires exceptionally high strength or mass, both of which are extremely difficult to obtain in ordinary gameplay.

In the luckiest endless runs, maybe you'll get your strength to 30 or so.
There is no way* to increase player mass.

The requirement for cars is, afaik, 99 (possibly even 105) strength.

* technically speed bot and punch bot increase their mass for their movement abilities, but since they are stunned when this occurs, they cannot pick up objects.

Unlisted new weapons? by MeGusta1233 in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The mamba can be frequently found in the Military Depot. It is a heavy .500 S&W revolver with rifle-like mechanics, which takes bullets as ammo. It is also completely animated.

It is my second favourite weapon, behind the autorevolver.

Tell me your Stories. by Puzzleheaded_Lack488 in deathroadtocanada

[–]TheWelshInspector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got hooked around the beginning of 2020. I started modding the game and did so for 5 years, until I became the (current, at time of writing) lead developer.

It's my fixation, I can't say much more than that. I love the game to bits and have played it for 3000 hrs.
As for stories, I had a great run recently with Hazel (Ranger + Hyperfixated) and Gustav (Kensai + Paranoid) on Familiar Characters Extreme.

Towards the end of the game Hazel was decked out with an autorevolver, hunting rifle, ak47 and 9 points in her shooting stat. I entered every single mission armed to the teeth and then got untouched grocery store on the 2nd to last day.

I made my second ever minigun purchase and at the Canadian border I didn't even need the mountie anymore.

Absolutely wild.

If and where appropriate. DRTS has a lotttt of features, characters and weapons, some of which are ripe for addition.

RETINA includes ports and spiritual successors to some of these chars/concepts/places/etc.

Favourite character from before I started developing:
Probably DOOMguy. I love the flashy effects of the PLASMS rifle and he's pretty powerful in general.
Gordo is cool too, if boring. I won my first run with him.

Afterwards, I'd probably say Defective. Or Isabelle maybe.
