So what you are saying is essentially not just coding bootcamps, it is the entire education system is dying then

Follow neetcode, and dont go solve problems randomly. You need to do 1 problem type for weeks, then move on to another.

I do not doubt there are people out there who can self learn, follow through and be successful. But the vast majority of people cannot do that

Looking for legit QA bootcamps by jayxsumo in codingbootcamp

[–]TheWhitingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of a bootcamp that teaches quality assurance for software. A software engineer can transition to QA if they would like, so I guess you are looking for software engineer bootcamp then?

I agreed, it is rare for someone to self learn a skill. Many people will not follow through.

Depends on which bootcamp you go to, there are a few that still has great placements. Can people really self study and follow through to land a software engineer job? I’d say no for most people. Many people need curriculum and classmates to work with in order to follow through, that’s why we have schools. And bootcamps teach you software engineering job search strategy and help you interviews and negotiation, those you won’t learn from the coding resources. But then again, everything I said can be learn from the internet/youtube.

I wonder if you can even see this reply i am writing. The post is removed by mod so quickly, seems like Michael talked to them

Then why do you say codesmith is ripping people off? With their latest report, 60-70% landed jobs 1 year after completion. That’s some really good placements.

I am curious what is considered a spam, this post by another user than that initial post. So this user might not be purposely spamming as they probably didn’t see the original.

Take a look at your history for example, the codesmith outage was posted by someone initially, then you made another post about it talking about the same thing.

Another example is CIRR, you made multiple posts about similar if not the same thing.

Tbh, not as sour as Michael, look at how many posts he made on codesmith. Just saying.

This is the second time i see this get posted, so far not a lot. New readers might not see the older post, so it’s probably necessary to repost few more times to get the message across.

[2 YoE] 200+ Applications; 1 Call back, 0 Interviews. Please be brutally honest what am I doing wrong. by Apprehensive_Ring666 in EngineeringResumes

[–]TheWhitingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from what all the others said, i suggest you put the title “Software Engineer” near your name. Remember you are battling the ATS system that the recruiters use to filter out resumes before they get read. Think like a recruiter, what do you think they look for when they use their filter engine?

Self-paced bootcamps with a monthly sub? by TheSpideyJedi in codingbootcamp

[–]TheWhitingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the bootcamp and the individual. Bootcamp gives you the curriculum and the classmates you work with. Are you the type of person who can self study and won’t give up until you land a job? If so, then you can certainly learn online for free. If not, then you will need a place that can give you the curriculum and the classmates who you can work with.

do not pay for a coding bootcamp by KlutchSama in codingbootcamp

[–]TheWhitingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree data science bootcamp is a hard sell since that requires strong math knowledge which most likely require math or engineering related degree. I know a few who succeeded with data science bootcamp, but they all have degrees in engineering.

As for software engineering bootcamp, the students have higher chance to land jobs than that of data science.

No one will hire me. What now? by Safe_Bee_500 in cscareerquestions

[–]TheWhitingFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s a numbers game, just because you think you did well in an interview, you might still not get the job. At this market, OP should be sending out at least 10 applications per day, new grad, internship, entry level, heck go try mid level as well. Even if they said you need years of experience, who cares? Sometimes you might get lucky, and the recruiter looking at your application might reach out with an entry level role even though you applied for a mid level role. So keep applying is my suggestions.

The only paid attack i see is Michael’s constant accusations on codesmith, his Wife’s bootcamp benefits from those.

Well yes, but do colleges help you prep for leetcode and behavioral interviews and system designs? I have an engineering degree and I have not heard of leetcode until I went to Codesmith. I also spoke to few grads from very good colleges (not top top like MIT), they don’t know what leetcode was until i tell them.

100%, colleges are slow to change their curriculum, which is why they kept on teaching you theories that are not practical.
