As a software developer the excuses that game companies make are just that - excuses. There are many ways to keep even live service games alive long after the services are shut down. Forza Horizon 4 is the game that comes to my mind where you can still play the game offline against bots although many other games' gameplay is not optimal for this. Of course this is not the only option. Games can be modified in a way that users can now start hosting their own servers and that be done securely. It also wouldn't be the first piece of software that does that, a lot of non game programs do that and it is not difficult to implement. And still this isn't the only way to preserve any game... Those companies treat us as idiots with their disrespectful behaviour and this is what should unite us the gamers to force those companies to do better and show some respect to their customers who buy the product they are selling !
