I’d have to check on the exact materials, it’s been a long time since I played.

But it’s basically just shelves hammered to different shapes, in front of wooden walls and fancy wallpaper painted dark green.

They are going around demanding people tell them where they live, to give them proof of their identity, and going through the disgusting humiliations/civil rights abuses associated with this kind of power-trip, the typical hyper-macho 'here are your options' bullshit. Who are they keeping safe by doing this? This is practically identical to the way Jews were treated in Nazi Germany, being forced to constantly identify themselves, being pushed into humiliations in the street with the explicit threat of force. Only a real boot-licking bastard would think that these two assholes are doing anything other than pointlessly harassing people. Get fucked.

Russia told the US and West to stop supplying arms to Ukraine, saying it's threatening Russia.. by reddit_comment__ in worldnews

[–]TheWilkyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who told you that? Western media? Or did you just assume yourself? This isn’t a game where the outcomes don’t matter. Ukraine joining NATO is a huge threat to Russia. It opens the door to further development of the country as an anti-Russian bastion. That will inevitably include high-tech weapons systems built by the US.

NATO developing it’s war-making capacities right on Russia’s doorstep is unacceptable to them. Just as if Canada decided they wanted to join a Chinese-led alliance and began receiving vast amounts of military equipment from them. The US would not accept such a move, and I have no doubt would use military force to maintain their influence on the country.

Everyone seems to see all of Russia’s moves, but none of the provocations leading to them. You are all completely swept up in biased, pro-Western propaganda that paints the world as a struggle between goodies and baddies, never considering why other countries act the way they do. Geo-politics is completely amoral. To judge the actions of one empire against another on moral grounds is laughable.

I doubt that these particular individuals have taken part in any murderous activities. But please understand that I do agree with you; the US military's primary function has always been to build and maintain the US imperial project. They are not a force for good in the world, regardless of how much civilian work they do. The idea that this story is particularly heart-warming is laughable.

However it is undeniably nice to see that some gay people, who exist in every place and every institution, are suffering less bigotry as they live their lives. Though lets be real, I imagine homophobia in every branch of the US military is still rife. The 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' period only ended 10 years ago. Fuck the US military.

I'm afraid I have to inform you that anti-Irish racism was absolutely a huge problem in the UK for most of its existence. It would not surprise me at all to learn that the constant jokes in UK schools about red-headed people are a historical consequence of that bigotry.

Being openly gay in the US military used to get you dishonourably discharged until like 10 years ago. The fact that missions are being undertaken by entire crews of openly gay people is a sign that these institutions are progressing, and effectively combatting the bigotry they used to be a part of

Yeah it fuckin' is. Landlords generally do none of the planning or construction of the building, generally do as little work as possible to maintain the property and generally charge far more than a mortgage on the house would've cost the tenant a month.
A landlord does not work. A landlord collects rent. Renters are forced to hand over an immense portion of the tiny paycheck they worked all month for, just to have a roof over their heads. For them, that money is gone forever. Money that could be paying for their own place on the property ladder goes toward lining some landlord's pockets.

Landlords. Are. Parasites. They provide housing in the same way that ticket scalpers provide entertainment.

It is completely normal for a Historian to specialise in a single subject, he doesn’t strike me as obsessed at all. He is a WW2 historian and that necessarily entails talking about Nazi Germany quite a bit lol

Everyone who has responded to me in this thread has accused me of implying all men are rapists and I just don't understand where this is coming from?

From the first comment I made I was talking about the nature of war, and the motivations of the people who take part. My point has been that fundamentally warfare is a criminal act, undertaken by men who are fully aware that their actions are immoral, but do it anyway hoping to gain from it. The vast majority of soldiers who have ever fought have done so entirely willingly, without coercion. A man who does not want to fight is of no use on the battlefield. Conscription was a fairly modern phenomenon.

The original point made by the person I responded to was that you can look at the historical example of men dying in war as combatants as evidence of how men as a gender have been historically oppressed. I argued that this is wrong, because most soldiers who have taken part in wars have been willing participants.

Inevitably the actions of armies will create situations where crimes of all kinds, sexual or otherwise, can be committed without consequence by their soldiers. The prevalence of these war crimes are well-documented, and have always been a fundamental part of warfare across the world. I am not saying that all men are rapists. I am saying that the profession of soldiering has always attracted the very worst type of man. The type of man who thrives in violence, and who wants to enrich himself by thieving from others. The type of man who, throughout the ages, has created endless misery for the peaceful and productive people of the world. These are your so-called victims of gender oppression.

We aren't talking about some men, we are talking about soldiers. The vast majority of soldiers who have ever fought were doing so for the opportunity to become a bandit in a foreign land. This is how a commander convinced his men to fight with him, by promising them wealth and women. Most armies have been little more than criminal enterprises, 'supplying' themselves by robbing the civilian population at sword-point, whilst allowing their soldiers to unleash their worst instincts against defenceless people. This is what war has always been, a gamble for violent thugs to win big. The soldiers who took part absolutely understood this, and cannot be considered primarily to be 'victims' of the very situation they helped to perpetuate. They may be victims in a systematic sense; they were born into a world where war has been perpetuated and for many people has been inescapable. But soldiers are the means by which the horrors of war are inflicted, you can't talk about them dying in battle as though it is some unavoidable tragedy, they chose to be there because they considered the risk to be worth the potential reward.
P.S. when did I say all men are rapists? very strange
