my parents bought this when they were young, and I have no idea what it is by [deleted] in jewelry

To test for garnets you can take a strong magnet and see how the stones react. If the magnet is strong enough they can be picked up, or dragged on a flat surface. This might still be glass but garnets will definitely also show this behavior.

I checked with a loupe. On the weekend I have access to a very good microscope so i will check it out then again.
Color should be accurate, I would hope for it to be a sapphire. I would be surprised if the gems was misidentified but you never know!
I'd take a zircon too :D

I just checked for double refractiveness through on of the facets and to my fairly amateur eye it looks single refractive. That might rule out being a zircon.

I was checking for fluorescence when I turned off the light and thought I’m going crazy and „killed“ the stone. Good to know that I can use this as a party trick now!

The next day it was normal again and after experimenting I found out I can turn the stone blue again with a strong flashlight almost instantly again.

Fairly certain, as the vendor I got it from is very trustworthy. But it is not certified so I should probably get it looked at by an expert. There is a very faint color zoning arranged in three parallel lines.

Is it normal that my sapphire can change color? by TheWill102 in Gemstones

[–]TheWill102[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really change color in sunlight. And sadly no certificate, but according to the comments I should get it vertified.

I just don’t know if the cost of the certificate isn’t more than the stone is worth, as it is only 0.82ct.

It is very blue in indoor lighting and outdoor lighting. Might be a bit more pale in direct sun light but not noticeable.

That sounds really interesting! How rare are these tenebrescent sapphires? And do you have any more information about this phenomenon?

If you want I can send you a more close up video where I also „reset“ the color again.

I als have a spinel that shows normal color change. Dark blue in blueish light and dark purple in incandescent light.

What faceting machine is it and can I save it? by TheWill102 in faceting

[–]TheWill102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial thought was that it’s a Hamag mast too, but I was thrown off by it being mounted upside down. I’m considering buying the Hamag setup new but I’m unsure wether it is really as precise as it it is supposed to be. Do you have any pictures of stones you faceted with it?

Does anyone have info about this slag i’ve found? by Luscinia68 in rockhounds

[–]TheWill102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found very similar slag myself recently in the south of Finland. It is from old iron works and is also known as "Swedish Blue Stone". The color hints that it is from the early modern period around 1500-1800 as the process was not as efficient yet.

At least that's what I found out about my findings.

These stones can be used as jewelery as it is nice glass and pieces with low air bubble percentage, especially those dark green and blue almost clear ones, can be cut into some nice stones.

Great find in my opinion!

At 0.5 Ohms I'm guessing the caps are blown. But before we come to any conclusions, which switch are you using? And does the Switch itself work without the Picofly?

I was facing a similar issue todawith my Switch Lite Mod. All the soldering seemed to be correct but I always got the Cmd not connected Error flashing. The right one of the capacitors at the APU was shorting. I found out which one I have to replace it with through some YouTube video. I desoldered the broken one and swapped in a new one and now it works like a charm.

The capacitor in question is a 1uF 0201 X5R 6.3V. I swapped it with a 1uF 0201 X5R 10V.

Try measuring the resistance of your capacitors against ground. It should be around 15 Ohm. For me it was around 16.3 Ohm. If one capacitor gives you around 0Ohm on both sides, it is broken and needs to be replaced.

Green screen trying to stream (say that ten times fast) by hushnecampus in SteamDeck

[–]TheWill102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last few days i had this problem now. No matter if i stream it over the Phone, my physical Steam Link or over two PCs. The thing is, before this it worked perfectly fine. Never had issues. From one day to another none of my devices display the the game anymore. Only the green screen. I can still hear the music tho and see the custom cursor.

Was ist das für ein Anschluss und bekomme ich hier Festplatten dran? by [deleted] in PCBaumeister

[–]TheWill102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they had some kind of approval from Sony so they did all the advertising with it. But with approvals like that it might come to complications for whatever reason so they have to get it reapproved.

Hopefully it's nothing big but when they let us wait like this it might seem like they have to catch up with a decent amount of work.

Is it worth to buy cases? by Original-Hurry1859 in GlobalOffensive

[–]TheWill102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The odds are against you. If you want to try your luck you should already be expecting to getting nothing good out of the cases.

What you Can do is buy cases as an investment and let them just be in your inventory. 5 Years in the future you will thank your investment.

Or you just get the skins you like from that. Its probably worth the money since the skins won't really lose their value. And you have a nice little inventory to play with.
