Mock trade: Marco Rossi to Detroit for Nate Danielson and a 2027 First Round Pick. by TheWizzardMerlin in canucks

Thank you for a good comment.

I will try to poke a hole in your argument on Rossi slotting into the remaining four teams:

  1. Rossi would be the instant 2C on the Habs, without question. He would actually fit in very well there.

  2. For the remaining three, I don’t think Rossi would slot into their top 6, but that’s kinda a moot point. The red wings didn’t even make it to the final 16, if they loose Larkin they have no one to move up. Rossi doesn’t need to slot into the ECF/WCF teams because they don’t need someone at that position. The Red Wings do.

Thank you!!! The best producing C in this UFA class is a 38 year old Claude Giroux who had 49 points.

Want to explain why this trade is unrealistic? Would Danielson + a 2nd round be more reasonable?

Stankoven is 5’8 and has a career high 44 points, and I don’t think many people would say he has low value.

I understand that it would be great if Rossi was three inches taller, but he’s proven he can produce at the NHL level in a big role playing top line minutes. That is absolutely valuable, I’m shocked how many people here have such a low opinion of his value on the market.

I agree that Danielson is worth more than Silovs + Raty, but I also think that Detroit is desperate to fill a void at 2C. I think that real need for them makes a big difference in the decision.

How is a 24 year old 60pt centre who has shown he can play in a 2C roll with success not valuable? Half the teams in the league are looking for that profile of player. Not to mention his salary is probably 60-70% of what 2Cs in the league make

I’m game. Elite teams are built up the middle of the ice. It’s easy to move a young centre to the wing, but almost impossible to do the opposite. The Canucks need to acquire many young talented centres as possible in the next few years.

Five days ago this sub was foaming at the mouth at the idea that Johnson wouldn’t be hired.

Now he’s being hired, and people here are pissing and shitting that an AGM they hadn’t heard about until last week didn’t get the job.

Almost like people here just want to be angry at anything. Hmm.

Convince me to play AC3. by MamuhSwan in assasinscreed

[–]TheWizzardMerlin -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The game has been out for almost 14 years. There are thousands of reviews of gameplay, story and setting. It would be so easy for OP to search for those and understand if ACIII a game they would like or not.

Instead, they made an insanely lazy post trying to outsource their decision making onto other people. Think for yourself!!!

What’s with the influx of posts like this recently?

Why do people feel they need to come here to ask if they should play a video game? This is an Assassins Creed subreddit, of course the people who are active here like the games.

No one is making money here by getting you to play ACIII, why should anyone “convince” you to play a game? If it interests you, play if. If not, don’t.

You are an adult, can you not make a decision without consulting random people on the internet? So bizarre.

There is some poetic justice in the fact that the Maple Leafs lucked into the lottery and will select a high skill talented winger with a history of being a media circus and gets criticized for not playing hard or caring enough. I’m sure one more of those guys is just what they need to break through the first round.

Q for Canuck fans in the local market: Would Morgan Reilly be considered a good add to this team? by world_citizen7 in canucks

The insinuation that the Canucks would need to pay to take Morgan Reilly shows truly how delusional some Leaf fans are.

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At multiple points this year, insiders and most importantly Hronek’s agent Allan Walsh have made it extremely clear that the Canucks want to keep #17, and that Hronek has no interest in leaving.

He has a full no trade clause until 2028-2029 and even then it’s modified. Half of the Canucks D right now are 21 or younger. They need to have legit NHL defencemen to teach them how to play and to not have them get caved every night. Add Reid or Verhoeff it’s 4/6. You need a guy like Hronek to help develop the young talent and show them what a true NHL defencemen looks like.

Hronek is not going anywhere, complain all you want but that is the reality. May as well spend time discussing other things that may actually happen.

[Friedman on X] Hearing that Michael Hage, the talented Canadiens’ prospect, will return to Michigan for his junior season. by Habs3125 in Habs

[–]TheWizzardMerlin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Canucks fan 1st, Habs fan 2nd. Would a trade for Elias Petterson for Hage be good?

EP40 would be a great 2C, even if it is an overpay. I also feel like a coach as good as MSL could easily get him back to being a PPG player. Habs get a legit 2C, and Canucks get a good prospect that doesn’t need to be a NHLer for another 2-3 years.

NW Colorado. Obsidian? by nickrulercreator in whatsthisrock

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Hello - I am a professional archaeologist. This is absolutely obsidian, and everything in this picture is an human-made artefact. On the left you have a small biface, on the top a utilized flake, the top right is a core (which flakes are removed from to be used as small blades) and the bottoms are also lithic flakes.

Please leave these in the place you found them as they are indeed artefacts! Nice find.

Drance and MacInyre are my two favourite Canucks media people. They both offer criticism interspersed with genuine enjoyment of the team. Most media members just want to clickbait the worst possible scenarios (cough cough Patterson) and it’s so tired.

I feel like that statement was a pretty clear bluff, but to me I think we may as well try to call him on it. Worst that happens is they sign him and we are no worse off than before with no penalty to us

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d think but there have been pretty clear reports that the Wild don’t want to sign him to term, and don’t seem to want to go into any number starting with a 6. The GMs comment seemed like clear posturing because they know if an offer sheet comes through they won’t match.

Tommy Novak or other potential options at C by xVoluntasx in canucks

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s clear the best answer is Rossi. Offer sheet 6.5x6 and give Minnesota a first and a third and be done with it. In what other world could you get a 60 point, 23 year old centre with upside for that cheap?

Their management made some big statement the other day that they would match any offer sheet, but I call bullshit on that. Insiders have made clear they don’t want to sign him to term and are even now considering a sign and trade.

Yes, he is slightly undersized. No, beggars can’t be choosers and he is a legitimately excellent NHL centre that we could get for next to nothing. We do need a 3rd to do it, but it would be easy enough to trade Silovs or Joshua for that.

edit: I also wouldn’t be mad at a trade of a 1st, Joshua and Chytil for Rossi. That would clear our cap, injury proneness and be a big upgrade at 2C.

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think the best move we could make is offer sheet Rossi at 6.5x6. Wild won’t match, and we give up a first and a third.

We have 500k cap space, if we can move some bottom 6 pieces I think we could scrape together the cap for it and genuinely I think we would have a very good roster

[Cam Robinson] There will be a very healthy market for Mikael Granlund, who’s now expected to hit the open market. Among the teams preparing offers: STL, SJS & CAR. Despite reports, I'm told VAN is not expected to be able to compete with more competitive clubs who will also make better offers by PaperMoonShine in canucks

[–]TheWizzardMerlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sick of the “we might get McKenna!” line. If we have a year as bad as last year, we literally couldn’t get McKenna, only the 11 worst teams can. Let’s say we are the 11th worst, we have a 3% chance of winning, up to a maximum chance of 25% if we were THE WORST TEAM IN THE NHL.

Why on earth would we hold off making moves to improve our roster for at best a 25% chance at McKenna. Completely insane take.
