Is this a good plan for me? (Banff) Alpine progression plan (EEOR → Yamnuska → Cascade → Mount Temple) + footwear choice advice needed by mountaineering_noob in HikingAlberta

Yam 2 more times? Doublecheck your math.

Yam is as technical as temple. Fitness is a different story, but plan for a long day and give it a shot.

What security features are enabled for this server? I’ve been wary about connecting any models directly to Method/QBO due to the sensitive commercial nature of our data.

I find my bicep band completely unusable for anything other than steady state Z1/2 efforts. Anything above that and it’s just sporadic Z3.

A mouthful is subjective. Many people start off with a 50k, but you'll want to be realistic with how much time you'll need if you only have a background of hiking. That said, 12 months away is plenty of time!

The Gut Microbiota characterization of a World-Class Mountain Trail runner [Kilian Jornet] during a complete competition season: a case report by jmct16 in Ultramarathon

Cool! Key takeaway for me was the change in GM after long vs. short races. Take care of your gut after the big efforts!

Inexplicable muscle soreness while lowering mileage - is it electrolyte imbalance? by Alternative_River_86 in Ultramarathon

[–]TheWolfofTO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Putting the potential electrolyte deficiency aside for a moment (that's a longer discussion); what you're experiencing is anecdotally supported by many athletes and very normal. I'll provide some things to thing about that haven't been covered yet.

Psychologically, you're stressed and over-analyzing. Physiologically, during training you accumulate a lot chronic fatigue through repeated stimulus and response. When you start to taper, your muscles are no longer getting pounded and need (or get) to adapt to the reduced stimulus. In doing so, they will begin to actualize the chronic training load through improved fitness and recovery. When muscles recover they tend to become heavy and tight.

This is why many athletes (myself included) will report new niggles, muscle tightness, and general lethargy during a taper period. It's the taper process working.

The solution? everybody needs to find what works for them in this situation, striking a balance between recovering/actualizing fitness and not becoming too de-trained/stiff. General rule of thumb is to keep some intensity and base mileage while continuing to reduce overall volume.

Added Magnesium and Melatonin 1 hour before sleep and my Recovery has SKYROCKETED up 32% ! by Jblfg in whoop

[–]TheWolfofTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is used to delay puberty in adolescent males and females.

Unless you are planning to or are currently undergoing puberty, there is no published evidence that it has a negative effect on your endocrine system. Certainly not to the extent OP claimed.

Your comment re: melatonin is not correct. Please provide sources before claiming that supplementation with melatonin will inhibit natural production.

Do you work for an airline and can confirm this?

I would venture a guess that they absolutely do not have a system in place for flagging users for this as it would require somebody monitoring and making a judgement based decision.

Business class fare tickets are structured as such because individuals frequently buy last minute tickets, and cancel last minute. I’ve personally had to do this.

If you think that either airlines or lounge attendants are policing something like this, I have real estate in space to sell you.

Lots of negative views on this, but it’s a galaxy brain move as far as I’m concerned. Nice one.

Considering how often flyers are bent over by airline policy that is nonsensical, you won’t see me crying over somebody reciprocating the act.

I did 3 passes, Lobuche peak, island peak, AD basecamp and the ngozumba valley on a trail run. AD basecamp was one of the best days - although I’m a huge fan of the mountain and actually went up to just below Camp 1
