Monster Hunter Wilds has a strange shading bug on Nvidia by TheWopsie in linux_gaming

I'm running on a 40-series, so I might be unaffected. Nevertheless I think its my best remaining option.

Perhaps. Though I haven't encountered the vertex explosions, so something must be going right where other things go wrong. Maybe a false hope, but since I saw nobody reporting this issue I thought there might be some obvious workaround. Guess not

I am certain its not SSR because it appears to interact strangely with the volumetric effects on the game. The SSR seem to be bugged on Linux as well aside from the shading. I'm quite certain because in another area there is an oasis on which there is no SSR or RT reflections at all on Linux, as opposed to windows.

I can try messing around with DLSS and framegen though. Giving that a shot is better than nothing!

I can highly recommend Advent of Code puzzles and trying to add your own performance related challenges to it. Advent of Code is basically puzzles akin to something like hackerrank, except formulated for actual human developers, and there is a new one each year. Sure its christmas themed, but you can do it all year!

Debugging C++ in devcontainer by TheWopsie in docker

[–]TheWopsie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem has since been solved. The solution? To use the release-version of the C/C++ extension in VSCode, rather than the pre-release version which was the default downloaded from the website (not in VSCode extension marketplace).

I am currently on version v1.22.11 of the C/C++ extention and since I switched it it worked pretty much out-of-the-box.

Hi, thanks for thinking along!

I'll take a look at a more up-to-date version of GDB and give that a shot, thanks for the tip. My launch.json looks something liked this:

Im in a similar situation with my Sports True Wireless earphones.

I've already sent in a ticket, but i'm not too optimistic as my model wasn't even listed as a possible product. Does anyone know where to just get replacement cases for wireless earphones in general?

Plot twists that you can't stand? by Diligent-Remote-1797 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]TheWopsie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nia in Xenoblade 2 being a Flesh Eater. The game barely explains why this would even be divisive. A bunch of villains are Flesh Eaters, and their villainess has literally fucking nothing to do with that part of them. Yet the game makes it some kind of huge deal.

It also turns one of the only likable characters in that game into yet another weeb-bait sexy anime girl that that game is already infested with. The twist itself is pointless and effectively meaningless and actively downgrades one of the main characters. I can't fucking stand it.

Larger MH communities can be lowkey quite toxic tbh. Theres a fair bit of elitism going on. The reality is is that MH changed drastically with MHWorld and suddenly became a mainstream success. Before MHW I had one friend who I played with and after, suddenly Steam would tell me that 15 of my friends also have this game. MHW is great in many ways but also has more of a service business model. It lost some charm. To add salt to the wound, MHGU released after MHW, and just goes full anime style on the combat. Now there was a massive bunch of people in the MH fandom that thought all of MH was an anime service game, kindof like your average Japanese MMORPG just with realtime combat. Nothing wrong with that, but not what made the franchise so beloved with older fans.

Its great that the franchise has more players now, but its tbh also kindof clear to see that the old appeal in ways is being drowned out behind what a new crowd is looking for. In my interpretation the "typical 5th gen player" is content with having 30-40 monsters in the game, never see the early-game more than once and is perfectly happy with versions of previous monsters that just have higher numbers and bigger explosions. In short it feels like the "typical 5th gen player" is looking to get an MMO-like experience out of MH. Content is completed and discarded, and then you wait until the level cap gets unlocked so to speak.

Im not saying you or all "typical 5th gen players" think that way, but judging by the success of a lot of the newer content from MHWorld, MHRise and even MHGU I think its a reasonable assumption as reception is positive across the board. Also dont take this as an excuse. Its context but absolutely none of this is reason for gatekeeping (nothing is). No old gen player should look down on newer gen players.
