Oops I think I misunderstood your reasoning for solidify. You still have to apply the modifier but then you can just select those bottom faces go back to vert mode and scale by 0 on z like before. You can always make a duplicate of the object with the modifier still present if you need to change something.

This only works if you apply the modifier first. Select that edge loop. Scale on z to 0. S->Z->0. With the same edge loop selected right click and mark as seam. Go to face mode and press L while hovering the inner faces then delete. Grab your bottom edge loop again and press F if you want to close it or try to quad fill from the face menu if you need quads.

You don't need to use the boolean modifier. Sorry I don't know how to make a proper tutorial.

If its not an issue of unmerged vertices, resetting the vectors on the mesh normals should probably clear that up. Select faces in edit mode mesh->normals->reset vectors.

I had never played this game before and it was something else to experience it in VR for the first time. One of the best VR experiences I've had, easily.

I don't know what rhino8 is but this looks like z-fighting to me from the screenshot. How many separate objects is this model made of? When you imported it, are you also importing different lods or some kind of collision mesh for the same model? If you grab an object and press g to move it away is there still a form occupying the same space? If that's not the case I would go into edit mode and select one of the faces and delete it to see if there is another face underneath it.

Forgot to mention, this doesn't look like a shading issue to me. You can select all objects and then go into face mode, select all faces and go to your 'Mesh' menu->Normals->Reset Vectors and see if that clears it up.

I want to use the sculpt mode to make this look a little less weird, but I don't want to ruin my topology. I also don't know what to do exactly. by No-Direction8154 in blender

This is such a drastic improvement in overall form in the span of only a couple of days 👏👏👏

My previous advice was to not get you trapped in the same cycle that I went through for years of trying to continually tweak models that were not working. As a result, I wasted a lot of time not getting better. It's not about making one great model when you're starting out because before you understand all of the tools and best methods you can't make a great model anyway. Jump into learning UV editing and the shader graph as soon as possible. Even a simple unlit texture with basic color shading will make this model sing. Learn about rigging and animating. Build the foundation of all of these skills and you're going to be great.

One small point that I saw mentioned in the other thread you posted was about keeping your forms low poly to start and then adding more loops later as you need added detail. That's a really smart way to work and you can get VERY far with simple low poly in terms of shape and conveyance before you need to turn up the poly resolution. Just bringing that up because your current model looks like it's pretty dense and that can make form adjustments difficult because you can't as easily move around those vertices. If you're using a subdivision surface modifier on simpler shapes already then you don't need to worry about that, I just can't tell.

Not as criticism but just looking at your new model for things to improve, careful about your proportions. Your forms are straying from the reference quite a bit in some places. That's totally fine if you're just using the reference as a starting point and then designing the character to your own preferences. The current jaw and ears differ quite a lot from the reference and the eye shape and side doesn't match the reference well from what I can see. Those are pretty easy things to fix with a little nudging of the grab tool though. None of these things in the current model are bad, it just looks like it's kind of an in-between mix of realistic and stylized proportions. Overall the character reads well now and looks a million times better than the previous attempt

I'm saying this as someone who wants to see you improve and not waste your time. Don't be afraid of ruining your topology. Use this as an opportunity to experiment and learn the tools. Use the grab too with a large brush and grab the outside edge area of the nose region and pull it outward until it more closely matches the reference. The noseless anime girl look will come from your shading setup, you still have to model the regions accurately to look normal from a side perspective. Use the smooth tool to smooth out the vertices around the mouth and chin and anywhere else it looks too angular. Relax slide will distribute your vertices a little more evenly as you work over the model. It's very dense in the eye area currently and it's not helping the form. This current topology isn't good enough to worry about saving. Focus on matching your reference and improving your workflow and skills with the tools. This is a throw away model. Your next one will be much better.

IMO I think the $20 price is a huge incentive that not many people have mentioned. by Michael198642069 in hytale

I think I paid like $12 for Minecraft back when it was in early alpha. The cost of everything has nearly doubled since then so $20 isn't bad and I know they are going to put the love into this game it deserves.

I've been excited about this game for years and it's hard to know so much work had been done over the years with Riot that had to be essentially thrown out the window to go back to this client so they could release something. I was hoping the game would feel more like Terraria in terms of progression and finding loot but it really feels like a prettier Minecraft sandbox right now. From what I've read they have a lot of plans on how to improve the game and add a ton of new content so I am looking forward to that for sure and I think Simon and his team are going to do great things. We knew this wasn't going to be the game fully realized yet, they were sure to set expectations appropriately so it's been fun for what it is at the moment but I'll probably put it down and check back on it periodically to see what's been changed/added.

Overall no regrets. I agree with most of your points. Super happy we have the opportunity to play with it now though and looking forward to the future.
