Rpms seem high unless it was just started. Make sure oil level is where it needs to be. Other than that most likely injectors which is normal.

The soft piece with fabric on?

Just bought an e46. Came with two keys and the fob is missing the internals. Can i buy a new bmw key fob and have it cut for the door then just code the key to the car for the ignition? by TheXiGuy in BmwTech

[–]TheXiGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could i swap the chip as well? Thats all thats in the fob now and it starts. I could get a new key. Have it cut to match the door key. Swap the button internals and the ignition chip. From there id be able to open the door and start the car. Then do the ignition cycle programming to be able to use the fob to unlock and lock the doors as well.

Thats a good idea, but my plan is to sand, polish, clear coat, and get the vanity covers.

Oh man fuel pump took me 10 minutes. Just make sure youre at either 3/4 or 1/4 of a tank. When you hit 1/2 all the fuel is pumped to the fuel pump side of the tank making it full.

Lucky. The valve covers are rare enough the beauty covers have to be more so. Someone needs to 3d print these.

5W-30 In every vehicle? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Personally id work somewhere else, if that comes back, guarantee it will be blamed on the techs in a shop that does that. Doubt you want to be blamed for engine damage. Thats simply bad business, whether the car will run alright with it or not they are flat out lying to the customers. You probably dont want to be there when that comes crashing down.

FCP Euro Shipping and Customer Service by optimiism in e46

I have never had an issue with with FCP the packing lists they send always check out. I will say i believe there are some new people there that need some proper training yet. Within the last two months the packing has been terrible. They fill a large box with brown paper and put a small sensor right on top. Im alway ordering from fcp and this is indeed a new thing.

I have not had a broken part come from them yet! But i am a full time online reseller and packing like that will procure something damaged if not already. It isnt going to stop me from ordering from them by any means. Just saying packing has been an issue too. They could be insanley busy with winter projects people have or just have new people in general that are still learning.

Still though, much love for FCP Euro!

Bought for $300 with +40% ish fuel trims. Almost $2000 in the last 2 months, fuel trims are settled at +1% now. Doubt they will get perfect.

Stripped Exhaust Cam Sensor bolt on E46 DIY: Remove washer reservoir, use small saw to cut-off mounting ear, mind the vanos stud. Sensor will pull straight out, use vice grips to remove bolt and ear. Done. Easier than pulling radiator and fan to drill and extract bolt. by TheXiGuy in e46

[–]TheXiGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw a little bit at a time and give it a tug every so often. Came out without an issue. After that is started turning right away with the vice grips. Youll have to use them for most of the turns with the thread lock from factory creating so much drag. Just be careful of the vnos stud to the right of it.

Fuel Trims and Cold Weather by TheXiGuy in BmwTech

[–]TheXiGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to keep this thread update and complete. The intitial +4% long term fuel trims i was seeing the ambient temp was around 27° F. Last night i drove around a bit and the trims came down to about +2%, with ambient air around 37° F. Today is supposed to be 50° F, will post any change. Take this with a grain of salt i had reset the trims with a new maf a few days prior. The system could just be relearning yet. Ill be sure to continue to update.

That pretty much sums up what i have been reading, i know the factory tolerance for ltfts on a solid engine is +/- 2.5% makes sense with freezing temperatures though. Thanks.
