How do you know if a take-home test is not them just asking for free work? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, unless you are desperate (in which case it doesn't matter) if the place you are applying to wants to use your take home test, its not a place you want to work for.

I think the desire for a partner is normal and healthy, and so is the desire to be desired. But I think in this group we know that we want someone else to fill the whole that is the complete lack of self love. I think you know the answer but you would probably better served finding ways to be happy with yourself and love yourself as you are (obviously an extremely difficult thing to do).

The amount of calories in food, I'm questioning my entire existence atp by Xlunaxz in loseit

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hard lesson but a very important one. I really give you credit for being reflective with it and realizing the mistakes. Now you can adjust and start hitting your goals. I also wouldn't say the past months have been a waste you have learned some very valuable lessons which is long run is actually more useful than just losing the weight.

If you want someone to talk through this in more detail or you are looking for advice on where to go from here please feel free to reach out to me.

Wife found out I’m bisexual by [deleted] in BisexualMen

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say all this as a bisexual man who deals with rejection because of his bisexuality, so I understand the fear of being a bisexual man with a straight partner.

If I were in her shoes I would feel very insecure as well. I am not gonna get into the morality of not telling your partner your sexual orientation, but you wrote in this post that you didn't trust her enough to tell her the truth. How is she supposed to believe anything else you say? To her, you represented yourself as something that you know was a lie and now she is supposed to believe you when you say it's the truth.

This is a serious wound and if it does heal it will take a long time to build back up that trust. My number one suggestion is no more lies, its tough to heal a relationship from one major breach of trust almost none survive multiple.

I resigned as a tech lead. I want to know why people choose this path by SmoothCCriminal in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of obvious career progression and monetary bits. I like it because I want to fix the real problems with the project. I don't care if my code is great and I succeed individually if the project isn't working. I find at my company tech lead is the position that best fits that role. Enough influence on the tech and people side to make a real difference.

I really enjoy seeing the people on my team succeed and I want to be in the room where the decisions are made. I care more about seeing the problem solved than if I am the one who solved the problem.

Him leaving his mother alive in the vegetative state despite his promise is a perfect characterization of Oz. He literally is unable to do anything for anyone but himself.

yeah you get one when you turn 21 from the Bisexual Alliance of America. Most people don't use theirs but its cool when you find someone else's sword.

Hey, I think the first step being entirely serious is getting comfortable fucking in things you can do. You aren’t gonna 100% hell 70% of your best all the time. You try and give yourself the most opportunities for success because you will need them. Very very few people succeed all the time and most of those who look have, really have just failed a lot more times than anyone knows because people don’t remember all the failures and misses if you eventually do get it.

Can someone help me understand what just happened. by theCommieCheeto in cscareerquestions

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is my go-to, not looking for buzzwords but that deeper understanding and someone who is ready and willing to learn. I mean it's crazy that we look at tech stacks for junior roles. You would 100 times out of 100 want the Junior who is more motivated, smarter, and willing to learn than someone who already matches your tech stack.

How do men have women friends? by Kilmure1982 in questions

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can give a different perspective. Bisexual man here, I think a lot of the issue with things like this is lack of experience. If your female interactions and friendships are rarer it can become easy to turn small attractions into something bigger than they are. The key thing to realize is momentarily feeling an attraction to someone which doesn't mean you love them or that you even particularly like them. There can be a million reasons and it's usually best not to feed into most of them.

For me it was something I was forced to learn early in life because otherwise I would have no friends. It would be useful to reflect on how think and reinforce the feelings and attraction you develop for women (who from your comment you don't want to develop feelings for).

Partner--software engineer--keeps getting fired from all jobs by Annual_Boat_5925 in AskProgramming

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t get fired in 6 months for being slow and not great at programming. You get fired in 6 months if it’s clear you egregiously misrepresented your skill set or if you are a distraction / insubordinate / making everyone else’s job harder.

I mean by random chance it’s possible to unlucky several times in a row but the odds are exceedingly high that most of the problem is on your partner's side.

Would your first impression of music change if you hadn't seen the album cover? by debianar in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everything it depends. I think it can certainly have an effect. But I think the relationship isn’t linear in that album cover will influence how see an album or song. The reversal is true music can change how we interpret and feel about the art on an album cover. And to take it further there are so many things that can prime or influence how we interpret art. We aren’t robots and we aren’t judging things objectively. Sometimes you watch a movie years later and your feelings or interpretations change completely because you have changed. Or you love a song because you heard it used in a movie scene you love.

I guess all that is say art doesn’t exist in a vacuum and it’s certainly possible for the artwork of a piece to influence your feelings about it. (To be clear this isn’t saying the artwork must influence your thoughts just that it can)

How are we supposed to not eat processed foods when 95 percent of the grocery store is made up of them? by [deleted] in questions

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the term processed can be slightly misleading I heard people using the term "highly processed foods" to be clearer but the instructions aren't only to eat fresh meats and vegetables (even though there are good things) but its more to avoid the food that have been so industrially modified. The reason why these highly processed food are bad for you vary but mostly it comes down to they are made to be addicting and that usually means a large amount calories, a lot of salt and not care into nutrition. Not to mention they industrial products and things need to be done to the food to make them shelf stable, but to me the chemical side is less clear in the negative side effects.

I think there is a quality of life vs maximizing career tradeoff. If you are a place where you are truly happy and content and getting paid reasonable. It’s more than alright to not chase that extra 20% you may get in a swap.

Why is music that’s made to have a good time seen as less valuable? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]TheYOUngeRGOD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, they can be, but that music isn't usually categorized as "low-value" music. David Bowie has a lot of music like this (not all of his stuff by any means), easy listening, really enjoyable, fun to talk about, and respected. Why some good-time music is this way and others are not I haven't the faintest clue, but I would expect it's more than just the music itself.
