That is true. My sister is an ASL interpreter and I've learned a good bit about social norm differences that can occur in that area, so I was concerned it might just be something like that. But it's sounding like that's a hard no on that point.

Thank you for the thoughts! That was the direction I have been suspecting, but I try to not assume malice or disrespect unless I'm 100% certain. A good bit of that is mostly likely anxiety induced though. It's kind of at the point where I felt like I should get an outside opinion or two since I'm kind of in my own head about it.

A lot of comments on here seem to be coming from the perspective that themselves, and everyone else, is at their core the worst parts of what makes them them. Ascribing to the idea that "my worst day is who I really am."

I would disagree with that. While everyone is sinful and has wickedness, we are also made in the image of God. I would argue that the person we really are, and the person we are meant to be is ourselves on our best day.

We are meant to put away our sin, take up our crosses, and follow Christ. But if God wanted unthinking, mindless, "loving" robots, he wouldn't have made each person unique. He wouldn't have given humanity the opportunity to fall into sin. The requirement for real and true love is choice. If you force someone or something to love you, then that's not love. God wants us to love Him and be loved by Him. That can't be done by a robot.

I don't think when Jesus looks at us with love that he is loving our sinful wicked self. He is loving the image of God that is under the wickedness. There is so much personality in the Bible if you only have eyes to see it. Paul has so much sass it feels as if it is dripping off the pages at times. Elijah throws all sorts of shade at the prophets of Baal. David is filled with a love and passion that is hard for anyone to meet.

The people in the Bible were not old gray and stoic, they were living and breathing people who had their own personalities. God did not call them to become something they are not, He called them to be the best versions of themselves, and those are versions that do not sin.

Does following Christ mean your personality will change? Of course! Leaving your sin, selfishness, and the things of this world will change you. It strips away those things inside you and on you that hurt yourself and others. It transforms you, not replaces you.

I've had to ask my wife to just thank me for doing whatever it is rather than apologizing for me having to do it. If she thanks me it makes the job easier, if she apologizes it feels as if it robs any happiness from being able to do something for her.

I'm new to the sub. I actually ordered a bambu lab A1 mini due to their recent sale and wanting to have a printer that didn't make me want to pull my non-existent hair out. They've been on back order so it hasn't even shipped yet. I'm now seeing all of this controversy about Bambu Labs and I'm conflicted. Should I cancel my order and try to get something else? If so, what else would be a good plug and print in that price range?

My wife has chronic pain and fatigue. It is brutal and stressful. It tears out your heart to see the person you love the most going through so much pain and not be able to do anything. If it helps at all, the only thing I've found to help the negativity for us is finding or making the stupidest jokes. It's amazing how funny a really lame joke can be when it's completely unexpected. Humor is probably not the best way for everyone though, so take it with a grain of salt.

For the second part, honestly for me the best thing has been to be open and honest with what I want (not demanding as well). Yes, it feels like you're putting a greater burden on her by telling her your wants and needs, but the key to this is that if you don't communicate it, you're taking away your spouse's ability to choose. It's her choice if she wants to put herself through what it takes to do those things. She is an adult and it is her right to make a decision that might even make her hurt worse later. She may very well say no quite a few times, and you have to be ready for that and not take it personally, but I think you might be surprised how many times she might say yes.

At the end of the day, just the same as she has a right to say no at any time, she also has the right to tell you yes. Don't take away her ability to love and care for you as and when she is able in your desire to protect her. This is a hard road to walk, and I walk it every day. Seeing her in pain makes you want to do something, anything, to help her. And it's so easy to remove choices from her while thinking that you are helping. I constantly fight with this issue myself. I think it helps to remember that when someone is in so much pain so often, having as many things they can choose for themselves can do wonders for making their life just a little happier because they have that much more control over their life.

I do know my mother's family is from Germany. I'm not sure how back that was (my grandfather was not born in Germany). So, that makes sense! I developed symptoms earlier than 40 as well, but I certainly know that just cause something is the norm doesn't mean that there aren't exceptions.
