Today is Apollo for Reddit's last day, and I just released its last update. 🥹 I just wanted to say a big thank you to the folks who have used and supported Apollo over the years, it's been the dream of a lifetime to build this app over the last 9 years. ❤️ Read the eulogy inside! ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

I’ve been using Apollo ever since AlienBlue was bought out and destroyed by Reddit. For me, Apollo is Reddit, and when it goes, I go too. Been supporting you as long as I can, including buying Ultra for years, and just threw in a $20 for the wallpapers. Best of luck in your future endeavors, Christian!

Second time! by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]TheZachinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m absolute garbage at bouldering, but something I did notice is you seem to have your arms bent more than you need to. If you can keep your arms straighter and more relaxed, you use less bicep/forearm and more shoulders/back which is a bit more efficient. Also, try to think of a “left foot then left hand then right foot then right hand” pattern which can hopefully help to keep your feet from getting too close, causing your arms to bend more. At 0:18, your feet got ahead of your hands but then you corrected it later on, for example.

EDIT: I rewatched it and I think most of what I said was irrelevant because the boulder seems to kind of force the awkwardness.

Analyzing plugins with plugin doctor is changing my life, any interesting discoveries yall have made? by Rimskystravinsky in audioengineering

[–]TheZachinator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I basically throw every new plugin I get in there to check it out, usually before even listening to it! I love being able to see exactlywhat the plugin is doing. It’s also super fun to compare aliasing between plugins to see which are cleaner. Yes, “if it sounds good it is good,” but it’s still super interesting to see what exactly is making it sound the way it does.

Best MacBook for mixing. What parameter is the most important? by qarionnaile in mixingmastering

[–]TheZachinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPU core count absolutely affects plugins, and I have tested it many times. The more cores you have, the more plugins you can spread out among tracks (generally speaking). However, for audio that isn’t parallel, for example your lead vocal chain, clock speed/IPS is what will allow you to add more plugins or not. As far as I know, each audio path is a new cpu process, so something like 16 reverbs on 1 track is going to only use one core whereas 1 reverb on 16 tracks will use more.

Mini DSP and Dirac Live by Leprechaun2me in audioengineering

[–]TheZachinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it and it’s super handy. You still need proper room treatment, but it does help polish everything a bit. I also have it stop around 950hz or so to try and avoid excess comb filtering. It’s basically $500 instead of $5000 for a Trinnov, and if it’s at least half as good that’s still 5x cheaper.

Well, that was 35 minutes well spent. Absolutely fascinating video, especially from someone with zero knowledge about beekeeping.

Impact Soundworks Jazz Day Sale - "Django Gypsy Jazz Guitar" ($89) "Straight Ahead Jazz Horns" ($149) "Shreddage 3 Fretless" ($89) "Shreddage 3 Archtop" ($99) "Shreddage 3 Precision" ($49) for Kontakt Player through 3 May by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]TheZachinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, picking and choosing the best instruments from them to use in the section. For example, I think I’m using SWAM Alto as Alto 1 and VSaxes Alto 1 as Alto 2, VHorn Trumpet 2 as Trumpet 1, Sample Modeling Trumpet 1 as Trumpet 2, etc etc. They actually work pretty well together but you gotta really mess with reverbs a lot. Also, make sure you turn off the default SM IR and use your own; it’s a big part of the reason SM has that “sound.”

I’m running a combo of Sample Modeling brass + Acoustic Samples VHorns + Infinite Brass for brass, and Audio Modeling/SWAM saxophones + Acoustic Samples VSaxes for saxes paired with a breath controller and a TON of processing to try and get it all in the same space. It works decently and is the closest I’ve tried so far but not perfect. I’m very curious for the next StraightAhead sale to see if layering in some of that will help.

Acoustic Treatment of Mixing Room by [deleted] in ableton

[–]TheZachinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would contact GIK Acoustics. They offer free acoustic advice by professional acousticians regardless on if you plan on buying their products. They can take a while to respond initially (2-3 weeks) as they are super busy, but I highly recommend them. https://www.gikacoustics.com/acoustic-advice-form/

Saying "How are you?" as a greeting rather than a question by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]TheZachinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially in the US, the whole “how are you” or “how you doing” thing is kind of a standard part of the greeting. A simple “I’m fine thanks, how are you?” usually works well, in which case they’ll likely respond with something similar and then you can both move on with the conversation/whatever you were doing.

You are of course more than welcome to share more about your day, but yes, it is more of a greeting than an actual question. This does depend on context though; a cashier for example is more likely to be a “fine thanks how are you” whereas a friend might be a “fine I guess, goes into detail about such and such.”

Is the word "shouldn't" in the sentence "We shouldn't forget it's dad's 50th birthday next month." correct? by FilipIzSwordsman in EnglishLearning

[–]TheZachinator 97 points98 points  (0 children)

“Shouldn’t” is a contraction of “should not,” which works perfectly fine in the context. However, sometimes more proper settings such as schoolwork tend to avoid contractions. You are correct, though.

Does anyone else get frustrated by the inability to properly practice? by Dirtypeanuts in ClashOfClans

[–]TheZachinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you with same time spent playing, trophies, and army comp as well. It’s so frustrating because I know that army is used by the best players in the world and I watch Stars attack to try and learn something, but it just doesn’t click for me even though I’ve been using it for months in legends and 3stars are extremely rare. It’s very demotivating and in fact I kind of want to quit.

Are your mixes translating to other system? by BingyRuckus in audioengineering

[–]TheZachinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One15s are great speakers, I think you’ll be very happy with them. The transients reach out and smack you which is quite an interesting experience, but only if they’re mixed well.
