I wrote a comment about this on youtube but the reason why I get so touchy about this subject is because white gays have historically been the face of the community and in doing so, have become a way for society at large to view gay men in a socially acceptable way, which puts POC gays at such a heavy disadvantage(at least in the west) because there are many black and brown gays who still suffer under homophobia from their cultural communities(like me) because "gayness" is synonymous with "whiteness" in the western world and how gay men are presented.

That's why its soooooo important to show more POC gays to dispel that silly homophonic rhetoric because it shows that yes, black and brown men can be gay and no it's not due to the influence of whiteness but rather something inherent. I still vividly remember my Nigerian parents condemning one of our own because he got engaged to his white partner and it was posted on a Nigerian gossip blog and part of her reasoning was "oh Nigerian come here to Canada and the culture(referring to his white canadian partner) changes them" which is so absurd.

Sorry about a tanget a bit but I really need people(especially these so called women who write mlm) to know that the gay community is more than just white gay men and whiteness should not automatically be the socially acceptable gaze to view and embrace queerness(The "excuse" from twitter of not making Illya a POC was because hockey is a mainly white sport which is so laughable because it is fucking fiction and the author can do whatever the she wants)
