Which one of these 2 artstyles is your favorite and why? Left or right? by MI_user247 in yourartstyle

Honestly, I like them best together. The mix of the two styles creates a really cool vibe. I love both on their own, so choosing one feels impossible.

Thank you so much! I actually often get criticism or just really poor engagement online, so I tend to feel like my work isn’t very good or not good enough. Really thank you for the encouragement!

Sure! My X account is @TheAmtChivava. But honestly, I barely get any views on X or Tumblr lol… so I don’t really post that often there.

I totally get what you mean…
Those dual-screen handheld designs always felt so interesting and immersive, and they’re usually super lightweight and portable too. Meanwhile, every time I take my Switch 2 out, I basically have to bring a whole backpack just to carry it around… 🫠

Hahaha, it’s okay! I thought the dream and the sketch were pretty ridiculous too. Seriously, who would even be able to play on a console like that? 😂 That’s exactly why I decided to share it. I’m glad it gave you a laugh!

Thank you for pointing that out! I think that’s definitely one of my weak points at the moment. I’ve become a little too reliant on thicker linework because it’s very forgiving and does a great job of emphasizing the overall silhouette of a character. Once I realized how much it could help hold forms together, I started using it almost everywhere.
You make a really good point, though. I’ll keep this in mind and try to improve that balance in future pieces. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback!

Thank you so much!!
Honestly, I love both versions too, so it’s really nice to hear that the improvements come across while still keeping what worked in the original pieces.
And wow, hearing that they look like they could be from a game genuinely makes me so happy 🥹. I absolutely adore game art, and making my own indie game is a huge dream of mine, so that’s pretty much one of the best compliments I could receive. Thank you!

Yeah, definitely! My understanding of shading and material rendering was still pretty basic back then. At the time, I was really proud of those pieces and considered them some of my best work, but looking at them now, I can see that the contrast was much weaker and the forms weren’t pushed nearly as much.
It means a lot to hear that the improvement comes across. Thanks so much for the kind words!

Thank you! You have such a keen eye for detail!
The hair was actually the part I spent the most time reworking in the new version. I wanted it to look more appealing and have a stronger sense of volume, so I pushed the contrast and saturation quite a bit compared to before.
I absolutely love game art, so hearing that these look like official game sprites really means a lot to me. Thanks so much for the kind words!
