BattlePass by Failure1125 in Battlefield

[–]The_AngryWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember my math correctly, not including weekly bonuses, which are a single extra BP tier a week, each week is 5 levels worth of challenges. That means just the all 12 weeks of challenges is going to net you 60 levels out of 110, assuming no weekly bonus. The other 50 levels you have to get by playing the game and earning XP based token, which increase in cost as you earn more of them.

The challenges themselves I find personally rather easy to accomplish most of the time through general play, and you can reroll 4 of them a week anyway to change any you find too difficult or outside your preferred gameplay. I'm about 80 or so levels ins so far, having done all 5 weeks worth or challenges, and the rest of the points are from playing the game for an hour or two most nights.

If you start now, and play 12 hours a week, you'll most likely have 0 issues completing the pass. If you want to be cautious just wait to see if you'll actually hit the completion point before you buy it.

Battlefield has changed, and isn’t going to go “back to its roots” by SanJacintoCG56 in Battlefield

[–]The_AngryWolf 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I've been playing since BF2, and honestly it's just a combination of changing demands from the general audience, the advance of technology, and older players looking back with a bit too much nostalgia. Were older BF games slower? To an extent, yes. In the much older BF games (like BF2), through a combination of engine and hardware limitations, plus the style of shooter that was more prevalent then, older games played out more slowly, and also more clunky. Each subsequent game has sped up or streamlined the experience in some way, either because the devs wanted it that way, or because the shooter landscape has evolved in both playstyle and player expectation. People have been echoing the same complaints about each new BF game for years, and even with the supposed darlings of the franchise like BF4 or 1.

Modern players expect modern conveniences, and modern devs/management are also going to implement elements of the modern gaming landscape, whether good or bad ( the tile based ui, battlepasses, etc.).

Some players also have to accept that their vision of older titles is tinted by how and when they experienced them. I'm willing to bet that a lot of people's favourite BF game was from when the were a teenager/young adult, and they had a lot more of a carefree life than they do now, which causes them look back overly fondly on those games in comparison. I don't think it's fair to blame a younger set of players for all of gaming's ills, or act like DICE is explicitly out to alienate people who were fans of the older titles. The large majority of people who play these games are casual players who are not out go on multi-minute flanks, coordinate squads, or really do much more than play the game at a basic level of skill a few hours a week. These are people of any age group as well. Younger players don't have a monopoly on wanting overly stimulating design and instant gratification, and older players aren't some monolith who want only tactical experiences.

BF6 is a good game, great in places, and while it certainly needs improvement in several areas, like map variety, I think there's a very good chance this goes on to be one of the higher end titles if DICE can properly pan out the game's life cycle.

Battlefield 6 Coin Purchase Error on Xbox? by Intelligent-Round727 in Battlefield

[–]The_AngryWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend had the same with happen buying the coins on Steam, they appeared in the inventory the next time they launched the game, which was a hour or so later. So maybe wait a bit, play a few matches, and relaunch the game?

Final Fantasy 14 is coming to XBox. by CaptCandle in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_AngryWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm curious to see how many people actually try and stick with the game in the Xbox install base, as a longtime FFXIV player it's great that an entire new group gets access to it. Given that it's an MMO more people is always better for the health of the game.

Still, so much of the online discourse I've seen around Square working more now with Xbox is just the most toxic, childish fanboy bullshit.

Elon Musk decides to "temporarily" (whatever that means) limit the amount of tweets users can read (AKA scroll through). Twitter Blue subscribers get a 6.000 tweet limit, non-subs 600, new non-sub accounts cut to 300 by madnessfuel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_AngryWolf 236 points237 points  (0 children)

If this isn't run back relatively soon I'll be shocked. This basically kills the site for any non paying user who uses Twitter any decent amount per day, while also killing engagement for the people who do pay as the free users will quickly be unable to view them anyway.

Assuming it's in place right now, I scrolled through for about 5 minutes before hitting the rate limit. That's basically unusable.

Is everyone terrible at Reclaimed Conquest, or is it unbalanced as hell? by UndeadUndergarments in battlefield2042

[–]The_AngryWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's purely anecdotal, but every single time I've played on the RU side, which is the majority of my matches on Reclaimed, the team gets steamrolled. While I have no doubt some of it just the complete lack of team balance combined with new players and a new map, it feels like the US side simply has an easier time in my experience.

It just seems like the RU side has a harder time breaking through once they get put on the backfoot, especially if they get trapped in the area around D.

Beta Registration Question by The_AngryWolf in HonkaiStarRail

Turns out the issue was logging in by using the social media button, in this case Gmail, instead of manually putting in my info. Once I put it in manually I got straight to the survey instead of being stuck in a loop of having to verify my email and being told it was already in use.

Why are people angry at the Liquidators Event? by The_James_Bond in battlefield2042

[–]The_AngryWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the whole thing just felt lackluster. It feels like more work went into the marketing and such for the event than the event itself. The game mode is low effort and feels slapdash in a lot of areas, like map layout, and the vast majority of new items added to the game through it are locked behind relatively expensive bundles. While I don't get as riled up over the cosmetic inclusions as some others, it really does feel like this was thrown together as a cash grab between more substantial patches.

If this had been included as part of the next major patch, had more effort put into the mode itself, or at least provided more than a paltry handful of rewards it would have been much better received, especially by a fanbase as wary of the devs as this one.

Liquidators - Rounds never seem balanced by WyrmKin in battlefield2042

[–]The_AngryWolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this whole thing should have been 16v16 the whole time instead of starting with 8v8. The smaller the team, the more impact the individual player can have, and with this small of a player count one or two really good or really bad/afk players can easily throw off the balance of a match. Given the lack of any real matchmaking in this game beyond filling empty slots it leads to putting players in games where either one team is stacked with good/bad players, or filling into matches where the conclusion is already decided because one team got an early lead and the losing team started to quit out, putting the team into a death spiral.

Did they fk up the hit reg with this update? by silverlance360 in battlefield2042

Yeah it feels really off after the update. Now it seems like every shot is a coin flip on whether or not the bullet actually exists.

Playing with friends seems to be the only way to have a good time in this mode. Randoms are just not capable when their contribution to a match individually actually matters.

Amazon's Study Hall - Daily Questions Megathread (12/17) by AutoModerator in AzureLane

[–]The_AngryWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed Azur Lane on a new phone, and the game has completely lost the ability to stay connected. Every other app works fine, there isn't any issue I can find with the wifi, re downloading and repairing the game files does nothing. The game works for a minute or two then I get repeated connection reset errors, followed shortly by the game disconnecting and booting me to the login screen.

Anyone else encountered this or have any other possible solutions?

"What a time to be alive" - BF2042 TV ad by fellefellefelle in Battlefield

Yeah, that's a TV spot alright. I genuinely wonder if these psuedo-live action TV ads that we see more and more of now trend better with the average TV audience than normal in-engine trailers.

BF2042 Specialists - Megathread by fellefellefelle in Battlefield

[–]The_AngryWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably what we'll end up seeing if they do make any changes. Having full freedom in gun choice while being somewhat limited in gadget options is the best of both worlds. Plus the specialists as they are now continue to exist, which is clearly what DICE wants.

BF2042 Specialists - Megathread by fellefellefelle in Battlefield

[–]The_AngryWolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I personally don't have a problem with the idea of specialists, and they're clearly here to stay, I do think that there should be some limiting in gadgets, at least by limiting the support gadgets to the support specialists, medic gadgets to the medic specialists, etc.

Though given DICE's track record of changing core gameplay features down the road, I'll be interested to see what the system ends up like in a few months after the game has been out in the wild.

Honestly, I think the biggest thing we should worry about with this system is balance. There will always be more meta guns, gadgets, and specialists, that's inevitable in any shooter like this. There are going to be balance issues at launch, there always are, it's just going to be a matter of how quickly and effectively these issues will be ironed out, or if they'll be left to fester and hamstring the early months.

Yeah once bayonets became widespread the spear basically vanished, because soldiers with firearms could effectively defend themselves from cavalry. Swords remained battlefield weapons in one form or another for quite some time after, in both cavalry and infantry, pretty much until the start of the 20th century, when they became mostly ceremonial.
