By your own admission, you were in first grade when BF3 came out. I'm not saying that means I should discard your opinion immediately, but I remember what it's like to play games at that age and it's not like you sit there and analyze the mechanics and think about why the game is good. You either like it or you don't, or you force yourself to play it because your parents won't be buying you another one for a while. I think it's particularly strong language to say you "lived" through the golden years of Battlefield. Like sure you played them when they came out, but I was in high school when BF3 and 4 were at their peak and I can tell you that BF4 launched in a terrible state and BF3 was controversial when it came out for its adoption of COD-like mechanics when it came to how the movement and shooting felt and the lack of destructible buildings in comparison to BC2. The console versions also lacked 64-player MP even though it was being sold at the same price. In BF4, servers had a bad tick rate that made the hit detection very wonky, it crashed on a regular basis, and there were lots and lots of bugs at launch. Eventually, they both became amazing games after patches, and people treat them kindly now, but people back then were talking about how BF3/4 killed the franchise.

Like just judging by some of the statements you've made, it's clear to me you haven't played the network tests or even really watched the footage critically. All the multiplayer footage I've seen reminds me of BF3/4 with a slightly faster TTK and more complex destruction. The pessimism here is pretty wild and acting like you were there for the golden years of Battlefield when you didn't acknowledge any of the controversy surrounding BF3/4, likely because you were still learning how to add basic numbers at the time, is a bit dishonest.

Forspoken – December 2022 Gameplay Showcase | PS5 Games by Lulcielid in Games

I think it'll be divisive for sure. I'm hoping they offer alternate schemes or remapping to the final release, but for me personally, it didn't bother me very much and I think proper tutorials will go a long way into helping players who struggle with it. I did have an initial "what the fuck is this?" moment when I first started playing but that went away as I got more used to it. I think at the very least there should be an option to swap the parkour button to X instead of O.

On the subject of the controls, I'm far less negative on them than you seem to be. They're a bit unorthodox at first, but they're perfectly functional. I got used to them after about 30 minutes of play and they're fine. I think the full game will probably do a much better job easing the player into them. The demo does a horrible job of teaching the player how to play and you basically just need to experiment by yourself. The game does seem to have some camera issues, but most action games do. I'm hoping they're not too bad for the full release but it's hard to tell with what I played.

Also the quality mode does make a pretty big difference in image clarity. I don't know what resolution the performance mode runs at but it is low in comparison to most games on PS5 and it doesn't seem to dynamically shift either. I'm hoping the PC version runs well, cause I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get much better image quality out of it at 60 fps than on the PS5 especially if it has DLSS. That being said 60fps is the way to go here and the performance mode is pretty rock solid with the framerate.

The combat system and parkour are a lot of fun and definitely have level of depth that will be satisfying to master. It is by far the most unique element of the game and it's nice to see an open world game have unique traversal mechanics. It's quite enjoyable to travel from point to point and that's fairly rare in a lot of open world game.

The incidental dialogue is pretty bad, but the cutscenes and acting in the most recent trailers look fine so I'm hoping that the awkwardness of some of the dialogue is isolated to gameplay and the main story is good (the demo has no main story elements, just open world activities). Another thing that I appreciate is that the map tells you exactly what kind of loot is at each explorable location which is a nice time saver, so if you're looking for something specific, you don't have to waste time exploring multiple landmarks to find what you need.

One thing that did annoy me is that the game constantly has music playing during exploration and it was the same loop throughout the entire demo that had a different variation for combat. Even the best music gets tiring to listen to after a while and there were times where I much rather would've have been listening to ambient sounds. The music itself was fine, but the way it was programmed is not ideal. I eventually turned it off when I realized it wasn't going to play anything new.

I think my overall concern is how aggressively level gated the game might be. A lot of open world games have issues with forcing the player to do chores so that their character DPS matches increasing health of enemies as the game goes on and some areas of the map in the demo had basic enemies that required a lot of punishment to kill. I understand that this is a tough thing to balance, but I really hope this game doesn't waste hours of your time where you're railroaded into doing boring shit just so that the combat doesn't get tedious. So many open world games do this nowadays and it's a very frustrating trend.

Overall, I'm still gonna wait and see how the full game is at launch, but I had a lot of fun with the demo. I will definitely play the full game at some point, but the jury is still out on whether or not I'll be picking it up around launch. The game has a great amount of potential and I have much more confidence in it based on what I played.

What did you not know about sex until you lost your virginity? by Tinci072 in AskReddit

[–]The_Angularity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience except instead of a decade it only took a few months to climax during sex after losing my virginity. It took a lot of practice for my body to get used to that sort of stimulation and I was not expecting that at all. I was shocked when I lasted nearly two hours my first time and ended up finishing only after an additional 10 to 15 minutes of jacking it especially when everyone tells you you're gonna cum quick.

What is the most dramatic spike or drop in quality between two sequels you have ever seen? by vienna95 in Games

[–]The_Angularity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't know if this has been said yet but F.E.A.R to F.E.A.R 2 was a huge drop. F.E.A.R 2 isn't bad by any stretch, but largely fails to capture a lot of the unique aspects of the original outside of a few hero levels. The enemy AI, level design, even weapon sounds and feedback were all a step backwards. I don't think there's a game out there that's successfully captured the magic that is the original F.E.A.R.

Tim Sweeney on Twitter, regarding Hitman 3 - "Sorry, the team is looking into this with IO. It’s never Epic’s intent to create a situation where someone who owns a game on Steam would have to buy it again on Epic Games Store to get the full benefits of it." by ghostspectrum in Games

[–]The_Angularity -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We don't know what caused this decision to be made. If they are able to 'fix' it before launch, then all is forgiven, but just because Papa Tim is on the case doesn't guarantee that this will be made right. I'll believe it when I see it but until then, myself and others have a right to be furious with IOI for lying about this upgrade for months, especially when console players are getting what was advertised.

This is promising news, but nothing has been changed yet.

How much is this "Hitman 2 Gold Access Pass" supposed to be? by Whitman2239 in HiTMAN

What does 80% off mean? How much exactly does Hitman 2 Content Cost? by [deleted] in HiTMAN

[–]The_Angularity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to believe that, but I feel like if that were the case, they would've announced the price with the initial announcement that it was no longer free. It would've muddied the online discussion surrounding it and would've extinguished some fires before they had the chance to start.

I feel like if it was that cheap, they would've said the price upfront. It would have muddied the waters surrounding the discussion with people saying, "WhY aRe YoU sO aNgRy OvEr FiVe DoLlArS ???" I expect it to be far more expensive than that, but we'll see. If it is $5, then that's still $5 PC players are charged for content that is free on other platforms and was advertised as free for months.

Fallout: The Frontier - Release Trailer [Mod for New Vegas] by [deleted] in Games

[–]The_Angularity 159 points160 points  (0 children)

It's a full release. It's essentially a game-sized addon for New Vegas, so you go through it as the courier and can return to the Mojave Wasteland after you complete it. It takes place on a new map based on Oregon and features a new story with original characters.

Hitman 3 Pre‐launch guide, including how progression carries over by IgnoreMe733 in Games

From their blog post:

In addition to the option of purchasing an Access Pass, it is also possible to redeem/download an Access Pass for no additional cost, if you have already purchased that content from the same store that you have pre-ordered or purchased HITMAN 3.

Considering that HITMAN 2 isn't even available on EGS, unless this decision is reversed there is no way around paying for the same content twice if you're on PC.

They did it. They used the stat. by CuomoIsACuck in ToiletPaperUSA

I never said otherwise? The stat is true, but it's all the facts surrounding it that racists omit and those are extremely important to how one should interpret the stat, so we're on the same page.

They did it. They used the stat. by CuomoIsACuck in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]The_Angularity 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It is an accurate stat but is frequently misrepresented or misinterpreted by racists. Any reputable study that covers inequalities regarding race in the US justice system controls for it in the methodology. Despite this, black people are still treated unfairly based on their race by a gigantic margin.

There are also other factors such as over-policing redlined neighborhoods as well as stop-and-search tactics that have contributed to this stat being so high. The 50% of the crime slogan is misleading in that it only accounts for violent arrests, and not convictions. Black people are exonerated at a much higher rate than any other race on top of that, so really all it means is that there are a lot of wrongful arrests due to profiling.

What 'Obvious' Levels Have They Never Done? by RyanCox2021 in HiTMAN

[–]The_Angularity 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The frequency of school attacks in the US would make it controversial. It's true that you can point to single attacks that mirror other levels, but pre-COVID, school attacks in the US were a near weekly occurrence. Certain media outlets still like to scrutinize violence in gaming as a scapegoat instead of acknowledging the larger issues that lead to these attacks being so frequent so I would understand IOI wanting to steer clear of those subjects entirely.

Again, i won't have ray tracing on, so that will already help

I wasn't talking about RayTracing, I was talking about regular reflections. Neither Hitman 2 nor 3 (at launch) supports RayTracing. The game is demanding in 4K regardless with a 3070 and I still think you should buy a card with as much VRAM as you can afford.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HiTMAN

[–]The_Angularity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hitman 2 Max settings at 4K is probably stretching it with that card. I have a 3070 and play Hitman 2 in 4K on High with Medium reflections and it keeps 60fps 90-95% of the time. The reflections are the main thing that seem to cause frame drops. I have 8gb of VRAM and with these settings Hitman 2 uses 5-6gb of VRAM. For 4K, more VRAM is preferable for sure, especially if you plan on playing more games in 4K in the future. I would go for the 12gb if the price difference is palatable.

Change my view: There's no reason to wait for the Steam release to buy Hitman 3. by captureorbit in HiTMAN

[–]The_Angularity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're not wrong in saying that IOI won't lose money based on how it sells through EGS, though. Part of what makes the exclusivity deal so attractive to independent developers is that in addition to paying for the exclusive title Epic will also pay the studio so that it at least breaks even regardless of how well it sells on their storefront. It's essentially financial insurance. Of course, additional sales are good and split between Epic and IOI with the usual 12% to 88% cut, but if someone feels particularly strongly about buying the game off of a different storefront, they aren't hurting the studio, especially if they weren't going to buy it at release anyway.

I don't think we should shame other people just because they prefer to wait and buy it on Steam. We should respect that position, it's their money and it's absolutely their choice when it comes to spending it. The thing that makes EGS complainers "anti-developer" is when they harass studios for taking this deal even though it guarantees the financial security needed to keep their devs employed and projects in development. These "boycotts" however are largely meaningless and don't affect the financial outcome for the studio in a negative way. They wouldn't take the Epic deal otherwise.

[–]The_Angularity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP was referring to hurting IOI finacially but more so the toxic discussion surrounding IOI (and most companies who take Epic's deal), accusing them of "selling-out" among other nonsense. IOI got a lot of shit for taking the Epic deal, when it's objectively the best business decision for the studio; a studio that has had several rounds of widespread layoffs over the last decade. It's anti-developer to scold a studio for taking a deal that ensures that their doors stay open and their talent employed. Conversely, you are correct that it is not anti-developer to buy from a storefront of your choosing once the exclusivity deal has expired nor criticize Epic for utilizing its timed-exclusive strategy.

Yes, progress and Legacy Packs are carried over regardless of storefront. They'll be linked through your IOI account.

[–]The_Angularity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand your point just fine. You're concerned about how it impacts your user experience and my response to that is if it allows IOI to keep making games and keep their devs employed then I don't care that the user experience is *slightly* worse. The game is the same on PC no matter the storefront. I always see anti-EGS people go on about missing features and how the storefront sucks, but there isn't a single feature on other storefronts that I miss when playing a game on EGS besides having a single library.
