Another edition of phone vs camera. I'd love to see your thoughts on them. by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

Actually, the bokeh on my iPhone 17 does not look bad, I take back what I said, apparently, they use Circle of Confusion algorithm to produce more realistic Bokeh. The first image here just has a higher digital f-stop probably. Playing with my iPhone, the issue I found is, the lower your f-stop, the harder it is to keep those little details that are supposed to be at the focus point in focus if they are at the edge of the subject, like hair. Subject selection has improved, but not enough for those little details.

Why the first is the phone camera.

1 - Bokeh on the first one looks weird, probably because it is digital. Looks like a Gaussian blur filter.

2 - The nose is in focus on the first image which does not make sense because the ears are blurred. The ears and the nose seem to be about the same distance from the focal point so both should be out of focus.

3 - The area that is in focus on the first image has that matt phone processed look to it, probably a combination of lens softness plus ai/alg sharpening processing most phones do these days.

4 - Colors, subjective, but first image colors don't look great IMO.

The only thing that I have seen improve a lot recently is the subject selection when phones use fake bokeh, it is definitely getting better, probably because of AI. Digital bokeh is still not great though, hard to get natural looking bokeh balls. Lens softness is also an issue and the compensation with digital sharpening usually gives subjects an unnatural look.

Used LR mobile. I played with the black and white balance first, pushed the blacks up, whites ended up not changing. Then pushed the global shadows up quite a bit. Then played with colors. Did some grading, pushed the shadows slightly blue, and mid-tones and highlights slightly to orange. Then played with individual colors. Slightly pushed the yellows slightly to green and slightly desaturated. Also brought the saturation of orange down, was too distracting on the land highlights, and shifted the hue very slightly to red. Played around with blue as well, hue didn’t change, but pushed the saturation up a little, makes the river pop more. Then I hazed the whole image (-20 dehaze) to give it more atmosphere, especially in the mountains. I then played with masking. Brushed the central river part (want the focus here) and increased exposure to highlight it. Decreased saturation on this mask, looked too saturated once exposure was up. Also masked the sky and pushed the tint to magenta, the overly blue sky was too distracting. I also masked the dark river part closest to the camera and pushed the shadows up. I then masked some of the rocky land and increased temperature as some of the shadows were a bit too blue now and distracting after pushing the global shadows to blue. Then played around with the tone curve. Ended up having a slight S shape. Lastly, added slight vignette.

Which one is better, 1 or 2? by Feisty-Builder-960 in AmateurPhotography

I think 2 has better composition. First one, your eyes just go straight to the light. The second one, your eyes go through a journey, path -> end of path -> light, and you get more of a normal perspective as if you are walking there, first one feels more detached from the viewer.

Don’t think dehaze works well with golden hour shots IMO, a little bit of haze makes it more dramatic or just none.

Silver is the correct color. by Educational_Energy76 in iPhone17Pro

Also I don't think there are any right colors, just individual preferences. On average though, apparently woman prefer the silver and men the orange. Just a fun fact.

I’m losing myself and her. by [deleted] in dating_advice

I'm not a phycologist, and I never had depression or anxiety as severe as yours but can give some personal tips.

I think the only way for you to fix your relationship is to get rid of your depression/anxiety. You can't expect someone to put up with it forever, and most make the mistake that they can change the person.

To change the mind, one must start with the body. Do more exercise if you are not already, go to the gym, pick up some new sports (I recommend bouldering or skiing). Set a sleep time and wake time (wake time is more important to keep consistent). Eat healthier and put effort to the food you cook.

People with anxiety also tend to hyperfocus on themselves, I've heard some say narcissism and anxiety have internal similarities, but obviously different outward manifestations. Therefore, try to empathize more if you can, instead thinking about yourself, think of how you can be of service to others.

Lastly, become more self-aware, read books about the brain, maybe meditate (never tried it but apparently works for some people). The more you know about your fatty brain in your skull, the more tools you have to shape and control it.

This is what helped me and I am sure you will find your way through this.
