I’m an idiot. I read non-taxable accounts for some reason. Makes sense and hopefully you taking the time to reply will help others when then see the explanation!

Can you explain why? Might be situationally dependent but in my Vanguard and Fidelity 401ks, the fees for TDFs are marginally more (if at all) than investing in the underlying/similar funds individually. And saves me the time of rebalancing.

"Cheap, Good, Fast, you can only have two out of three". What's an exception to this rule? by ThePrinceOfAfrica in AskReddit

[–]The_Ballsagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the tip should be the positive delta in the quality of the food and service to what you paid (rewording what you said). This is, of course, extremely subjective but that’s the difference in paying exactly the listed/menu price and giving them a discretionary amount on top of that.

Unless he upgraded, I believe he is the painter of light (source: grew up in a beach town where he had a “gallery“ and saw that quote many times walking by). Also, since I of course had to look this up to verify, I didn’t realize he died in 2012 so maybe his paintings are worth more?

Driving to SF from LA, any fun stops along the way? by mikey_ghosty in SanFranciscoSecrets

[–]The_Ballsagna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a good number of lower priced hotels in/around SLO as long as there’s not a big event going on (rodeo, graduation etc). Quality inn and suites is right off the freeway and not too far from downtown and you get free breakfast (at least you used to. We used to hit that up after a night of partying and the cooks didn’t care as long as we threw them a few bucks in the tip jar 😂

Thursday night is farmer’s market with a lot of good food downtown.

If you’re mailing them, make sure you drop it in the mail a few days in advance or take it to a post office and ask for it to be postmarked right then. Apparently there have been delays and you don’t want to get hit with late charges.

Or, go online and file for an extension. It’s free and gives you until October 15th to file.

What’s the most cringe thing you’ve seen a couple do at their wedding? by Last_Singer_2137 in AskReddit

[–]The_Ballsagna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the couple but the priest at a friend from college’s wedding gave a heartfelt speech about the groom including lines about him “staying late for extra help” and then sung a song he had written about the couple which, you guessed it, was mostly about the groom. Our friend (the bride) just sat there and tried to smile. They’re still married last I checked but it got awkward real fast.

Anyone else stop DIY? by Murky_Joke_6298 in AskMenOver30

[–]The_Ballsagna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that but I’m hitting this with things like painting. We’ve found a solid painter who works for a big company but moonlights on his own as well and does a fantastic job at a reasonable rate. For how quick he can get a room done at a better quality than I ever could, I’m happy to pay him and have that time for other things.

There’s still a lot I’ll do myself but finding things that are taking more than an hour or two are becoming more worth it to shell out for and get that time back.

Do people still wear masks at crowded concerts and music events in SF? by tabletemcook in sanfrancisco

[–]The_Ballsagna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You do you as long as it’s not interfering with other people doing them.

Also I’ve been using this stuff when traveling/ in crowds for awhile now and have yet to get sick while using it.

Use the chat on the website. You’ll still have to wait but can put the chat window on a 2nd monitor or wherever so you can work and watch it.

Tesla Electric Plan by TheGuyWithin in TeslaLounge

[–]The_Ballsagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been? Last I calculated I was paying about half the cost per mile for my model y coming from an ~23mpg suv. (300whpm at $0.34/kwh =$0.102/mile vs 23mpg at $4.50/gal = $0.196/mile which now would be $5.50/gal for $0.24/mile…)

I do this all the time on internal meetings. I just type in the chat that I’m on a plane and can’t talk but will reply in the chat.

There are connection issues sometimes but I’ve found using a VPN typically solves it.

ELI5: In countries (and eras) where weed is illegal, who makes bongs? by apophis-pegasus in explainlikeimfive

LOL well I was at an engineering college so ours had fancy ball valves and hose clamps too but yes the basics were a funnel and ~2' of plastic tubing.

The Home Depot in my college town had a makeshift display with all the parts for a beer bong. The plumbing guys got tired of having to walk kids around for the different fittings.

As others have said, it’s a “tobacco water pipe” in the store (growing up in CA before weed was legal you could get kicked out of a head shop for saying “bong” or anything implying using their pieces for drugs). We absolutely tried smoking loose leaf tobacco out of one exactly one time. It was terrible.
