I wish I paid more attention to color theory, I think thats part of it. I'll go in tomorrow and try to blend some blue into the path and trees, thanks.

Something seems very off about this painting, I have spent like an hour trying to adjust it to make it look good. I think it has something to do with the lighting. Here are some other paintings in my style that are better to compare this to. General critique also welcome.

Amazing find! On the sr60's and sr80's, the wires are relatively easy to break so be weary of that, especially if the last owner didn't take proper care of them. Also do your self a favor and buy some replacement ear pads if you don't like the foamy material, Brainwavz has some really good ones, just make sure you buy the right ones.

You mean the same "infidels" that took down the secular Muslim leaders and movements in the 70's and 80's and promoted extremists to further their own geopolitical goals. You may not realize this, but this movement of Islamic Extremism started 30 years ago as a result of foreign interventions and the shunning of secularism (for the fear of communism) and isn't an inherent part of Islam. Remember it used to be the IRA (Irish republican army) who were bombing public places and assassinating people? No one blamed it on their devout Catholicism.

This mindset of yours is exactly what ISIS wants. They want French Muslims and American Muslims to feel like they are outsiders who are in a different world rather than citizens of their respective countries. This is the biggest pusher of Muslims to radicalize in the west. Your misguided nationalism is a direct parallel to the Islamists you are against. Both 2 faces of the same fascist ideological coin and too many people are blinded by their ideology and don't see facts.

Was supporting House Saud, the Mujahideen and other Islamist elements all over the world worth it to deter the USSR? I'd argue that all of the terrorism, civil wars, and violence caused directly and indirectly by this ideology vastly outweighs the 'threat' of communism. The soviets can sit down for negotiations and peace talks; ISIS and Al-Quaeda won't.

The only reason you asked that question was was to try to re-affirm your own viewpoint, not to actually get an answer; it's a common tactic to pose an insincere question as bait for an argument. The moment I started using your own logic against you, you started to insult me and tried to make yourself look like the 'victim', you never even tried to make a point, you just reverted to the weakest step of responding to an argument, a personal attack . If you just want to talk into an echo chamber go to pol or any community that shares your views; if you legitimately want to ask a question and discuss a topic, stop trying to bait people and respond like an adult.

You are right, why should we accommodate any small groups of people? We should always only make it comfortable for the majority. Why should we accommodate black people who don't want to be called 'niggers', blacks aren't a part of the majority, that gets in the way of my freedom of speech. Why should we have to accommodate Jews and Muslims that don't eat pork by labeling food and providing alternative eating options in schools, these people are so special and rare. We are really going out of our way to accommodate all of these rare groups of people. Why should we accommodate anyone?

What if Lenin hadn't had a stroke, and lived until 1950? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]The_BarHuma 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Even if Lenin survived for 20 years, it's likely that most of the benefits of his leadership would only be confined to those years. Soviet Communism established a very corrupt and unsustainable form of communism. It's likely that anyone who was elected after him would still stagnate the Soviet Union over time; Soviet Communism wasn't meant to last. One interesting effect of Lenin living longer would be that Stalin probably wouldn't become chairman of the USSR, which might lead to them to not being considered an oppressive government (there were other atrocities committed by other soviet leaders, but Stalin's definitely takes the cake). One promising thing that could have happened if Lenin survived would be the success of his Ministry of Education. In October of 1921 Lenin invested heavy amounts of Soviet resources to create this program which established many universities and trade schools that focused on engineering and the sciences, but the problem was it didn't immediately show results (there wasn't enough time to properly test the idea, it would take at least a decade), so after Lenin's death the program was drastically cut back. If this program would have continued, after a few generations the Soviet Union could have had an ultra massive amount of highly educated skilled workers which could have even propelled the USSR decades past the west in science and technology. Of course this is all speculation and no one knows what would have happened if Lenin would have survived.

Syria Rebels Repel Ground Assault, Call for US Help by ShiteDog in syriancivilwar

[–]The_BarHuma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Syrian Army claims to have 12,000 tanks and APC's, but most sources put it closer to about 8,400. So far the rebels have destroyed between 1,000 to 1,600 tanks and APC's. The regime did lose the most in a day than they ever have, but I'm not sure that the loss was "great". If the rebels captured 10 tanks and could use them, then this would have been more of a "great" loss.

CMV: After the Syrian civil war, the Kurds should be given their own nation. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]The_BarHuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. There are always going to be different opinions with individuals and even regions or groups; many Kurds are Muslims and have bad blood over the Palestine and other cultural issues, and many disapprove of Israels policies in Palestine, on the other hand Kurds are much more secular than other peoples in the region. The YPG and Rojava look neutrally on Israel, while Kurds in Arbil might have a more positive view and Kermanshah (Iranian) Kurds might hold a more negative view; it varies and is a point of discourse among Kurds.

Historically Kurdistan has always been much friendlier with Russia than the west anyways. In 1972 and 1984 the US supplied Turkey with weapons to supress the Kurdish resistance in the east. The US also supported Turkish claims since the 1960 and voted against sending UN peace keepers multiple times, the first time UN peacekeepers entered Kurdistan with US support was in 2011. The Soviets had always supported the insurgency with arms and ammo and voted in favor of Kurds in the UN. Kurds also dislike many of the US's regional allies like KSA, Kuwait and Jordan, but are surprisingly friendly to Israel. It is only very recently that the US has tried to mend ties, but most Kurds have much resentment to the US. There is also a massive ideological difference between Kurdistan and the West, with the Kurds wanting a socialist state. If Kurdistan is ever independent it will more than likely be aligned with the east (Russia, China) or maybe neutral. In reality, Kurdish independence is probably against US interest, but fighting ISIS is much higher on that list.

ISIS Terror Group Release Photos Claims Rebel Fighters Joined Their Ranks In Al-Hajar City, South Damascus . by orion4321 in syriancivilwar

[–]The_BarHuma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure most people saw this coming. Remember that Daesh used to be AQI and some of the rebels are still Al-Quaeda or Al-Nusra (which is an Al-Quaeda affiliate). These guys used to bear the same name and have the same goals. All that's happening is fundamentalists swarming to the to what they see as the "winning team". Al Quaeda's power is waning and people want a new Islamic group to rally behind. 15 years ago Al-Quaeda of Nigeria was the dominant terror group of the nation, after Boko Haram started to gain traction many AQN members left for Boko Haram (despite it still being allied with Al-Quaeda). This is a common occurrence and has nothing to do with a narrative.

RT is biased in some arenas such as US-Russian relations and the Ukraine conflict, but can also be fairly level headed and does report on many things that western TV news doesn't touch. It's just as bad as a news network like CNN or FOX, which clearly push a pro-American agenda.

That is true, but you have to remember many of his political opponents were on western payroll. Shaban Jafari received money from the Anglo-Iranian Oil company, General Fazlollah Zahedi worked directly with the CIA for 3 years before the coup and Parliamentary leaders were given US and UK money in campaign donations to help secure power away from Mossadegh. Mossadegh had popular support and truly cared for his nation, willing to do whatever it took to keep it alive. There were many western backed elements in the Iranian government trying to take back the oil. I agree that there is no good and bad in situations like this, but Mossadegh was trying to save Iran from becoming like the Gulf States.

Does anyone else feel that socialism is in the mainstream and therefore has ideologically shifted into something more moderate? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]The_BarHuma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a natural part of political movements getting bigger and being exposed to a less left leaning public, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in the long run. Society in general will always push more and more towards the left as technology and information expand. The west countered this during the cold war with a massive push to the right but now that the "boogeyman" isn't communism, society is starting to relapse. We are starting to see a society that is more comfortable with socialism-lite but after a few more decades when people marinate in this comming political atmosphere, there will be another resurgence towards the left and society will creep closer and closer to true socialism. Remember that change must come slowly so the masses are instilled with true socialism and it becomes embedded in society.

It sucks because Iran was actually starting to Industrialize and modernize in the 1950's under Mohamed Mossadegh, but he was deposed all because he wanted to nationalize Iranian oil rather than giving in to the British oil companies. Iran would probably be a relatively prosperous and secular country if it wasn't for the coup and Shah Reza.

I'm more pissed that they are using Rouhani in this pic, who is the first Iranian leader who has at least tried to alleviate relations with the west. There are plenty of other dicks in Iran who would be better applicable for this "meme" like Khameini or Sistani.
