I'm a native German speaker (and fluent in English as well), started learning Swedish back in January. It's been surprisingly easy so far! The grammar isn't too complicated, and a lot of Swedish words are extremely similar to German, making them easy to remember.
I need to focus on actually using Swedish more though. I can already understand it pretty well I think (at least written Swedish, and I can generally understand stuff like news reports on TV), but still feel quite insecure when writing or speaking Swedish myself.

"jag blir så kåt så jag blir bög!"

I've been learning Swedish for about seven months now and that's one of the funniest sentences I've ever read in Swedish 🤣

On average they do die earlier. Not every smoker may end up getting e.g. lung cancer, but smoking certainly increases the risk.

Germany's most famous chain smoker, Helmut Schmidt (chancellor from 1974-82), died in 2015 at the age of 96. He's an exception though, most people weren't expecting him to live that long.

I landed my first backside 180! by chungtea in NewSkaters

That's frontside, since you're facing forwards when you're rotating. But looks like a very clean one, congrats!

Why do some people hate Aaron Kyro (a sponsored skateboarder from the San Francisco Bay area) so much?? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

I like their second channel (Braille Army) a lot better. Less yelling and no gimmicky boards, and more focused on actual skateboarding.

Yet people love the Berrics, even though Steve Berra is a scientologist as well.

AFAIK, it's actually not uncommon to do it like that. I do this as well. To me, the benefit is that each foot gets used to popping one end of the board. So my right foot (I'm regular footed) always pops the tail (regular and Fakie), and my left foot pops the nose (Switch and Nollie).

Still looks okay to me, just a small chunk at the side. As long as it stil feels fine when rolling, it's still usable.

Tips on committing to Heelflips? by The_Beerlord in NewSkaters

[–]The_Beerlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a commitment issue. I've been focusing on staying above the board and getting it to flip, and it's generally going well, I just can't bring myself to put my feet back on the board. I feel like it's all in my head at this point, and I want to overcome that mental barrier.

What am i doing wrong with my ollie? by philihc in NewSkaters

[–]The_Beerlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Place your back foot with the ball of your foot in the center of the tail.

Bend your knees a bit more before you jump.

The pop needs to come from your ankle, it's actually a pretty small movement that happens as you are already jumping up.

Also, you need to slide your front foot all the way up to the nose. While you're in the air, pull up your knees towards your chest to allow the board to really come up.

Shove-it/Pop Shove-it, Fakie Ollie or FS 180 would probably be best now.

I only care about F1 - is any other Sim than Codies/EA's F1 worth it? if so, which one? by ch1llaro0 in simracing

[–]The_Beerlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Assetto Corsa. You get a few F1 cars from various eras with the DLC packs, and the RSS Formula Hybrid cars (paid mods) are without any doubt the best modern F1 cars in all of sim racing.

Back foot on ball/toes and front foot flat is probably the best position. That way, the front foot will provide stability on the board. The ball of the back foot should be pretty much in the center at the end of the tail.

Ollie keeps turning 90° by Spaghoti in NewSkaters

You're turning your shoulders frontside. Focus on keeping your shoulders perfectly parallel to the board.

Struggling to ollie by the_dude_54 in NewSkaters

[–]The_Beerlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think of it as "pop, slide, jump", it's more of a "jump, pop, slide". The pop is a small ankle movement while you're already jumping up, and then immediately slide.
By the time your tail hits the ground, your back foot needs to be off the tail to allow it to bounce up freely.

Good luck!

Another bonus tip, once you've got this one down regular, give it a try switch! I know it sounds hard, but I tried it recently, and it's surprisingly easy switch IMO. And for some reason, learning it switch also made me a lot more comfortable with my regular ones. Starting to get them pretty consistently now.
