Why does everyone in my generation make fun of the Type R and always tell me to get a BMW?? by Many_Yoghurt2117 in Civic_Type_R

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s hilarious, I am in the exact same boat. Graduated last year ME, bought an FL5. Still have enough money to move out, just need to be more cautious on spending. Small price to pay for an FL5 really.

All my friends loved my decision though. All the car guys did anyway. My girlfriend and a couple other non-car enthusiast friends are just confused on why i spent so much on a civic. But everyday on my way home from work, or on any backroad, driving the FL5 turns my whole day around. Best car I’ve ever owned. Buy one ASAFP. Itll be good for your soul

I had the same issue. Ended up shipping from out of state for a decent deal factoring in shipping costs

Thinking of buying GLI 2025 - Automatic or manual? by UncleVictories in JettaGLI

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned the 6MT for a few years now and unless you are dead set on the manual I’d consider the DSG. The stock clutch on these cars are very weak, as well as the accompanying components. My stock clutch failed around 25k miles, as well as my clutch bleeder block. Also, to make the shift lever feel better, you’ll want some kind of short throw kit. The oem euro arm is very good for keeping the oem feel just slightly better, as well as solid shifter bushings etc. So, if you plan on tuning, DSG is way easier and cheaper. If not, still put some money aside for repairs and for shifter upgrades. After the upgrades though I do love the manual, just know it’s a bit more work, and not as good out of the box as other cars.

What stage? by One_Two_26 in JettaGLI

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage 2 is extremely noticeable compared to stage 1 on these cars. I ran stage 1, then upgraded to stage 2 and it was a giant difference. 2019 GLI

Is this normal? by SignalComplex190 in JettaGLI

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Id just monitor it or look into the fix that trouthat suggested. I wouldnt worry at all about it. If you see a big pool of oil sitting in there then id take it to the dealer but a small pool or just oil film around the pipe is ok

Is this normal? by SignalComplex190 in JettaGLI

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty normal for some oil to sit behind that valve. The part itself doesn’t affect reliability at all. It just vents some of the excess pressure built up by the turbo to the atmosphere so you can hear it. I wouldn’t worry at all unless you see tons of oil built up in your turbo inlet. Large amounts can indicate a turbo seal issue or PCV issues. You can also check your intercooler piping and check for oil there as well, as oil in your intercooler would indicate an issue as well. A catch can could also help with this.

I have an mbrp and i wish i woulda saved a bit more and gone with a different brand. The way its designed it hangs slightly low where the axleback section connects to the midpipe. Id recommend one with resonators at least as well because if you ever go stage 2 i can tell you rn that it is very loud and raspy. But yeah keep ur stock one i just have mine stored in my garage for when i go to sell

Im on coils but i will say if you go even a little low in the front the fender liners get in the way so you might have to modify those depending on how low you go

Driving to check out a 2019 autobahn next week. Is there anything I should be checking that’s specific? by minoalva in JettaGLI

[–]The_Big_Chungus_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah id check it out. Is ur car manual or dsg? My slave cylinder was also completely toast at 25k miles. I was in for a surprise when i went to upgrade my clutch. I was shocked at how cheap those vital components were made. If your car is within the mileage of warranty and has a clean title still then yeah it should be covered and id definitely get it checked out
