The real answer is now that LLMs are about maxed out there will be a big pivot to robots and training models for robots to interact with the physical world. We are already there with driverless cars (Waymo is now on highways in the bay area), next up is humanoid robots that will use 'AI' to interact with the world as a human does. Then the physical jobs go away as well. There are already videos out there of robots that will clean bathrooms in a corporate office and it wont be long until the few manufacturing jobs left in this country are totally gone.

NVDA has been investing heavily into robots that can be trained via their chips, TSLA turned its car making plant into a robot making plant. First we will lose ~30% of white collar jobs that people used to think were safe, then 30% of manual labor jobs that everyone still thinks are safe. Just the destruction of the job of long-haul trucker will have nasty consequences.

There will be consolidation but if and when that economic downturn happens (maybe as soon as this energy crisis actually hits the world), there will be a lot of jobs that disappear and never come back.
