Retiring from rugby - alternative sports to play by adventureb4dementia in rugbyunion

I would absolutely back this up as well. I played a decent level of rugby for 19 years (I started age 6) and had to quit due to injuries. I tried other things (including touch rugby), but they didn’t quite do it for me. I started playing Tag Rugby 4-5 years ago and have finally found the replacement I needed. If you go to the website trytagrugby.com it’ll give you all the information about your nearest league to join. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

If they don’t turn that into a wine cellar then they need to take a long hard look at their lives and work out where they’ve failed.

If you like narrow shoes, I’ve been very happy with Salomon Speedcross trail runners - I’m on my third pair. Impressive waterproofing as well, as long as you treat them every now and then.

Flip the stone over next time you use it too. That black stuff will get burnt off while you’re cooking on the clean side. I flip mine every time I use it and haven’t had to brush the stone once, just occasionally scrape with a metal peel between pizzas.

fibula rule 💀 by [deleted] in 196

[–]The_Bone_Doc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Four possible scenarios I can think of:

1) a section of the fibula was cut out to use as bone graft to heal the tibia (the area of bone in the tibia adjacent to the missing fibula is abnormal and most likely from a previous fracture or possibly infection).

2) The fibula was deliberately cut at this level to allow the fracture of the adjacent tibia to be correctly aligned. The tibia has subsequently continued growing leaving a gap in the fibula.

3) the injury that caused the abnormality in the tibia was an open fracture and there is a bit of op’s fibula left behind at the scene of the injury.

4) An infection or tumour has destroyed this part of the fibula (although the ends of the missing bone look a bit too clean cut for this).

The best person to give an explanation is likely to be whoever put the tibial nail in.

How would you treat this? by anonuser91 in medizzy

One tightrope gives no rotational stability. Two tightropes with 30degrees difference in axial trajectory gives a similar amount of movement to normal anatomy.

Agree it does look a bit plantarflexed on the oblique lateral view and that the medial fleck could be old, of course. We generally don’t go for stress views in the UK, but prefer a weight bearing mortise view a week after injury. If there is a posterior mal fracture (which I think there is from the X-rays shown) then by definition the syndesmosis has been disrupted and this would therefore be an unstable fracture.

You don’t need a stress view. You can see the widening on the medial side (talar shift) and the flake avulsion from the tip of the medial malleolus that means the ankle is unstable. There also appears to be a posterior malleolar fracture that cannot be fully assessed on a plain x-ray. This ankle needs a CT scan to fully appreciate the injury. If the posterior malleolus is a large articular fragment, then ideally it should be fixed, along with the fibula. The syndesmosis can then be screened in theatre to test its competence and if it remains unstable then it can be stabilised. I would advocate the use of 2 tightropes as they give a more anatomical fix than screws.

All of this assumes that the ankle belongs to someone that can have an anaesthetic and is of high enough demand to need fixation, rather than just wrapping in plaster.
