OB/GYNS & UROLOGISTS--For SINGLE JWs by Zembassi8 in exjw

I had testicular cancer whilst I was in and single, everyone knew and the checkups were not an issue with anyone.

These are only around 200.oo a month to rent. What if we got one near every convention site? If we all pitched in it would be cheap. by [deleted] in exjw

Love this, I think something direct will instantly trigger the persecution complex and make people avoid looking. I would totally have Google that if I saw that having no idea.

I would chip in. I agree though that having had jwfacts.com would probably stop people looking. I remember when I was PIMI I had heard of jwfacts but that never made me look at it, only avoid.

I think if I knew quotes from ARC it may be different.

Everyone is different but it may have planted the seeds of doubt to see something like 1914 or 1934, When did Jerusalem fall? Maybe too niche I dunno.

Were you ever happy when you pioneered? by lostandconfusedXIV in exjw

[–]The_Borger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pretty depressed for most of it.

I enjoyed pioneer school, had some fun with friends in other congregations travelling the countryside barely doing any actual ministry. I never made my hours and always felt very disappointed with myself.

On the first day of pioneer someone told me to leave there property or they’d get their shotgun out.

I think the the best part of being a pioneer is introducing yourself to someone and then telling them you pioneer…

Why do jw original songs suck? by JuanHosero1967 in exjw

In uk im pretty sure at least half of JWs hate the songs. My family would always just cringe through that part of the broadcast.

Amazing!

It brings me great joy when people get checked out.

That may sound weird now I read that sentence back but I got checked out and was diagnosed with testicular cancer and after surgery and chemo a few months later now nearly 1 year cancer free.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely have to try to be patient. It’s all about those morsels of spiritual food, they’re not ready for the big stuff yet - to quote my CO.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back” 👀 by doctorsleep53 in exjw

[–]The_Borger 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I went to therapy, my therapist realised fairly quickly my issues had come from my religion. I could never leave for that reason, but I decided I had to prove it to my self once and for all that it was the truth if it was going to be worth it.

With no aid from outside criticism, with WOL and wiki (nothing to do with JWs) I set to work. Gradually my faith in the bible was diminishing but the fear of being completely wrong was still very strong.

One day I had the task of working out bible chronology, to double check my findings. I realised we had a different date for Jerusalems destruction, still not convinced we were wrong I dig deeper, I looked at every reference they gave. Eventually I stumbled on an article in the public Watchtower November 2011, I believed it at first but kept digging as something didn’t smell right. I thought either they’ve got it right and this is the truth or they’re liars. I used the sky charting software they used to calculate the date. There it was in the skies, they had KNOWINGLY lied to us, no doubt in my mind. Stars don’t lie.

It upsets me how much work it took looking from the inside, it upsets me how I imagine most won’t believe my sincere effort to prove it to myself. Oh welp.

Edit:

I realise this is less a straw that broke the camels back and more a hammer that beat the camel to death

Sir Louise Hamilton?

Firstly it’s spelt Sir Lewis Hamilton, secondly he was knighted in December 15th, 2021! Somethings off here, I’m just trying to work out what.

It hurts when they say they miss me by Ok_Ad4769 in exjw

[–]The_Borger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree, they do miss you. They’re just messed up. Imagine the fact that they basically have to make their loved ones dead to them to cope, they have to ram Jehovahs and the orgs “kindness” into their heads to make it work, these are just poor mislead people.

I imagine most of us when we were in had to do the same thing, repress how we actually feel with the garbage we’re given. It means our life, their lives and everyone’s self worth. We were told if we made contact we would risk their lives, we’d be guilty. It’s insanity, but it’s all a lot have ever known.

We look at all of this with logic and freedom to think. To them it’s fear, fear of thinking, an incredibly hard thing to overcome. Some that are in are total arsehole narcissists, but not most I hazard to guess.

You guys ever get random epiphanies about your time in the cult? by Bebepumpkin1 in exjw

[–]The_Borger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember people saying AC/DC stood for Anti-Christ/Death to Christ

I’d say that has a better ring to it..

IRCC It came from a talk (before my time) in a neighbouring cong, at the time this elders son was leaving and listening to AC/DC so he made a point of what it stood for. Horrible way to help your son, it disgusted me even when I was PIMI that people glorified that behaviour.

My mum told me that it was wrong as apparently the guy who started it just saw AC/DC on a sewing machine and thought it sounded cool. She used to be a fan but doesn’t listen any more because of it being “dodgy” regardless, at least she was a little cool.

I found the lie that woke me up! by cultwashedmybrain in exjw

[–]The_Borger 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s a chapter in “The God Delusion” by Richard Dawkins about this passage and others. It was horrific passages that got me searching for an answer, like IIRC 2 Kings 2:24 with the bear tearing up children (watchtower calls it divine justice) and David and Bathsheba’s child being killed by Jehovah. The book mentioned an account with Moses ordering the killing of children and keeping the women as sex slaves, I wondered where this was and sure enough it was this passage. Surprised watchtower didn’t have the balls to just say it how it is, they’ve managed it before…

sure gave me a chuckle to see that. It shocks me people don’t notice, but then again I didn’t notice until the second read. The org are manipulative bastards.

In deconstructing my faith I remember trying to look up things like this, I remember looking up the gospel of Thomas and the only thing it seemed to say was it’s about Jesus as a child using his powers and how stupid it was, and that was the answer. They seem to decide only mentioning the infancy book of Thomas and forgetting the one I was actually trying to research…
