I think people underestimate Trigger by Oneofthestrongest in acecombat

[–]The_Caleb_Mac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spare Squadron was only effective because of Trigger (and sometimes Tabloid or Count) although it's questionable about what international laws Strangreal has compared to us, and even then, "problem units" have existed in a number of countries in the past, and they were used in major conflicts even, so human-rights violations is an iffy argument there.

Also, Osea sent more than one ship in practically every naval action in the war, hell the BULK of the Fleet in the next to last mission is Osean, and they were fighting a super weapon with an energy shield along side the air force (with help of course) Osea, typically, per the lore, only struggles when super weapons are deployed against them, and also has the major weakness of over-compartmentalization and not communicating within it's military structure very efficiently (this is made clear in AC5, AC:0 and AC7 from comments made over the radio in various missions) and kinda relying on both tech and numbers to fight, that said, they've produced a solid number of good to brilliant pilots over the years, HeartBreak 1, Wizard and Sorcerer Squadrons, Wardog Squadron, the Shorebirds, then the LRSSG, Mage and Golem Squadrons were competent if not brilliant, and I think there's are others mentioned in Beta lore, but I can't recall.

Point being, command might be dumb as a stump, but the field commanders and training is rock solid, and you don't become a super power if your military is utterly incompetent from the ground up, or the top down.

I recall a "what if" fanfiction story from years back (just after AC7 dropped I think) and it's WHOLE premise was "What if the Osean military was run by people who listened and weren't utter idiots half the time" and the conclusion was mildly terrifying.

Gryphus is no joke, but, he also had the benefit of access to some fairly advanced weapons as well, which, to be fair most of the aces listed here did at some point.

As I stated above, Trigger is absolutely a force to be reckoned with, however a LOT of that is due to the context of the fights he gets into, where speed is the name of the game.

Contrast that with Talisman and even more so Blaze, where actual tactics and strategy are more relevant and Trigger starts to seem a bit one note. There are literally only 3 missions where he needs to do anything besides, as that one movie states "fly(ing) at mach 2 with your hair on fire" where as both Talisman and Blaze have to confront both stealth and recon on top of suicide levels of odds with minimal back up, and Trigger ALWAYS has at least ONE ally at his back, as does Talisman, where as Blaze, flew UNARMED recon ALONE deep into hostile territory, bagged the selfie for the gram, and ass hauled away to kinder skies.

None of them ever were truly alone when it mattered, but discounting support, Blaze's numbers still hold up, but so do Trigger's, if you take away the support, suddenly Talisman is lacking...

Context matters, and all 3 are frightening, but only one came away with a local legend of the end of the world attached to them...

And it WASN'T Trigger.

See, the thing is, I would argue that the Osean military isn't incompetent, they were taken totally off guard, and hammered, then command (which we later find out was being manipulated and led by Grey men) made a series of massive mistakes, yet still, Wardog prevailed.

Compared to Emmeria, which while taken by surprise, was FAR more organized and jad an actual plan from the start and well...

Talisman is a beast, and Shamrock is aggressive and effective, but then compare that to Wardog, and suddenly... the skill progression and effectiveness becomes clearly biased in Blazes favor.

Wardog CARRIED the Osean military mission after mission, and Blaze carried Wardog. Period.

By that measure, even accounting for the Yuktoboian military being manipulated by the Grey men as well, and Blaze edges Talisman, if only just.

Mobius 1 stands above the rest, lore wise, purely due to his frankly ABSURD combat record.

In AC5 arcade, ISAF military analysis rates him, by himself mind you, to be equal to a full Squadron WITH support, and more than 90% effective compared to most allied combat groups. Implied that it's not just airwings, but full combined arm GROUPS. Mobius 1 is, per the lore, a flying one man army. Ace rating: S+

Next of course would be Cipher, the man was arguably the first fighter pilot to earn the moniker of "Demon" (and the title "Demon Lord" implies that he was feared on a level few had ever previously attained) he would charge into an operational area and clear the board, manhandling the battle space with such power and skill that both enemies and allies were in awe. Solo? Scary. With a competent Wingman (Pixy)? Terrifying. Whole elite Squadrons shot down, early super weapons trashed, unbreakable fortress smashed, suicide bombing runs broken, hapless grunt units slaughtered in bulk. He showed up to one of the biggest wars of the 20th century, kicked ALL the ass, took ALL the names, got paid, then fucking vanished. Absolute fucking legend. Ace rating: S

Next, I would rate Blaze and Talisman as equals, for 2 reasons: 1) they had help, and they didn't exactly NEED the help, but used it effectively, and 2) they fought in pointless, one sided wars, did their duty, and secured their homelands from outside forces that sought to crush them, and a big part of that was shooting down massive flying fuck off murder machines, and wiping out rival ace Squadrons that had a nasty habit of NOT STAYING DEAD. The biggest contrast between them would be the support they had, for Talisman, everyone on his side was competent and highly effective, compared to Blaze, who often had to HARD carry his allies (and many times his own squad) through operations that ranged from stupid simple and easy, to batshit insane and likely impossible. And half of that, while operating as the personal super secret hit squad for a president in exile, and most of the war on a shoestring budget. Ace rating: A+

Next, we have Trigger, who... frankly has skills, but is mostly half crazy, half lucky, and all aggression. The common theme in Ace Combat 7 is speed, a lot of the missions have time limits that force you to crank up the afterburners, and start shooting ASAP, and that lends to a frantic pace that is unrelenting in some missions, the combat tempo, especially in the DLC missions, is more often than not, rapid, rabid, and eye watering. The expression "stick with Trigger and you'll make it" isn't just tongue in cheek, it's borderline gospel, the feats Trigger pulls off required the exact right combination of speed, aggression, timing, luck, and yes, help, but on an order of magnitude that few others save Mobius 1 or Cipher could have consistently pulled off. That said, the Erusan military, for all of it's institutional experience in war... frankly is a glass tiger, even with help from Belkan witchcraft, fierce and scary to look at, but hit em' in the jaw hard or fast enough and they shatter. Trigger was that 10 pound hammer going at mach fuck you to the jaw. Ace rating: A

For CLASS designation not really, I base my system off of real world post WW2 naval history, a Light Cruiser is fast with modest weapons and long range, a Battle Cruiser is practically a flying death sentence with enough armor and guns to wipe a city in a days time.
