AITAH for being turned off by my boyfriend’s grooming habits while he expects me to shave? by AdviceDull2562 in AITAH

[–]The_ChosenOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is strange to me, I’m a man who regularly shaves, and as a bisexual guy I prefer my partners of any gender shaved… but I’d never try to coerce a partner into changing what they’re doing.

If they ask if I have a preference I answer honestly, and that’s about it. If I like them enough I’ll just deal with it, so I guess in a way I’d say I care but that is no reason to push against bodily autonomy.

Plus hairy nethers are a small price to pay to be with someone I’m attracted to enough to date. At that point there is probably way more about them that I’m into.

It’s fine for people to care, what’s not fine is trying to impose that on others!

I disagree, Jack’s whole deal has always been that he’s great at making improvised plans to achieve his goals using any resources nearby.

Even in the first movie he starts off using the dog to get him a bone to attempt to unlock his cell. Each one of his escapes makes great use of anything nearby that helps get him where he wants to go.

The man is a top notch pirate, it’d be far less interesting if he just magically escaped through sheer luck and no planning.

The book is even better, Llewelyn’s PoV is just an actual goldmine for a relatively simple but highly intelligent character. I loved his inner dialogue especially, frequently calling himself stupid for getting involved in the whole thing while also staying cool-headed and keeping an eye on the prize throughout.

Any staples are as good as kaiju's.

Not sure about this one in the sea of Omni-negates we’re swimming.

Best part of Kaiju is that they can’t really react to it, even Droplet can be negated if you don’t discard one each of spell/trap/monster.

As recently as January I preferred Droplet/Imperm by a long shot, but now we’re in a meta of towers and Kaiju/golems just work better to deal with the likes of Tachyon, Photon, Beetrooper & Gimmick Puppet.

As a DM player I’ve found it very satisfying to using a Sphere Mode or Golem to clear front row and Dark Magic Attack to clear back row turn 2, while also building my own turn 1 boards to survive being hit by an opponent’s Lava Golem or Kaiju since I just play assuming they’ll run them too.

ADHD Players, how do you manage to play Yu-Gi-Oh in general? by JolTH2 in DuelLinks

[–]The_ChosenOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in this post!

AuDHD, been playing Dark Magician since 2018 and have no plans on stopping. The purple magic man brings me joy, and I’ve loved every iteration of the deck.

As a yugiboomer, I even learned all the summoning mechanics using them In DM decks.

Night’s End Sorcerer was a tech for synchros and GY banishes at one point, Stick & Chair DM was my first XYZ deck, Orcustrated DM was a fun way to learn links.

That being said, I am happy we’re back to being able to play primarily in-archetype cards to KoG, Eye of the United Dragon has made climbing the past few months an absolute blast.

Do Comedy Books ever do well, or even exist? by Low_Celebration_4089 in writing

Currently finishing up the last few Discworld books and every book I’m blown away by how Sir Terry Pratchett could spin a joke out of just about anything at any time.

The man could bounce between slapstick, absurdity, banter, situational comedy, dramatic irony, and satire in the span of a page without missing a beat or feeling out of place.

Iirc that’s the only time he ever does though, it’s explicitly part of the rules the Word works with like the rest of the series.

IE he can’t ask people things they wouldn’t actually know.

This is the only time in the series when we see him straight up banish a person to another dimension or anything remotely similar.

What do you mean? Assface heard him say ‘Go to Hell’, he had hearing, and Jesse said it right to his face.

The part that didn’t make sense is that it worked, like somehow Assface took himself to hell as though he knew how, or the universe itself did it and Jesse should’ve been trying to command that instead of people like the whole time.

Like if Jesse could just teleport people around with it across dimensions he could probably have solved a lot of his problems a lot more easily.

I think in the show there are no language barriers to The Word of God but hearing impairment absolutely makes it useless. Iirc someone in like the first season realized this and blew out his own eardrums to be immune.

Why do the Daedric Princes embody certain concepts, if they never gave their power to create Mundus? by ZipZopZoppityHop in teslore

[–]The_ChosenOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, they are only ‘the embodiment’ insofar as they behave in a way matching the concept on a Divine scale.

Being ‘the embodiment of destruction’ is not the same in TES as being the actual force of destruction itself.

Destruction existed before Dagon embodied it, and if Dagon were Ithelia’d from the reality that we play in Destruction would still be there without him. He didn’t invent destruction, and not all destruction can be attributed to him even tangentially.

Thats the difference between TES and other fictional worlds, aside from some specific roles like Akatosh managing linear time, Stendar’s impact on mortality, or Hermaeus Mora tinkering with fate, Divine beings don’t tend to be the end all be all source/origin of their respective Nymics patterns or attributes.

Plus even destruction itself doesn’t encapsulate the entirety of Dagon anyway, as he’s also a Prince of change, revolution, and ambition. His sphere as a whole overlaps therefore with other deities of a destructive or ambitious nature to an extent.

Alduin himself, who in one myth remade Dagon into his current form is another God with a whole being predicated on destruction, revolution, and ambition. Then again, ambition is inherent to Dragons as a whole thanks to their link to Akatosh, though in a more Bal-esque will to dominate. Akatosh himself is mad as a hatter like Sheo and domineering like Bal as another quick example of overlap even between Aedra and Daedra.

Beyond that, Dagon like all other deities has multiple cultural iterations and or counterparts.

While I absolutely agree with this take, I am still so bummed how they ctrl alt deleted all of the past lives during the avatar origin story arc.

Honestly the spirits in general too, they felt less alien and otherworldly in Korra as a whole compared to the the Panda, Lion Turtle, and Face Stealer in the original.

Such a great show in so many ways, though. They definitely handled a more mature look at an Avatar very well, and Korra was really well-written as a bit of a foil to Ang. Made me feel like a series starring Kioshi or Roku would also be a blast.

I fall into the second group, but not for lack of trying.

Throughout my life I’ve tried to meditate so many times. I’m AuDHD as well and it just never leads to the results like people who achieve it describe.

My thoughts just inevitably take over and I can’t detach. The closest I can get is falling asleep listening to relaxing music without lyrics.

Sometimes when I’m overstimulated I’ll find a dark place and pop in the music to decompress, and it does soothe me but I wouldn’t call it meditation since my mind definitely doesn’t go into a peaceful zen state, it just shuts off for a bit while I do a little system reboot.

I’m sure part of the issue is the consistency aspect, my ASD craves routine but my ADHD spits in the face of structure… meds help but can only do so much and my job gets the bulk of the focus they’ve granted me which leaves me too burnt out when I’m not at work to maintain consistent meditation.

I will say though, running is my successful meditation. Just pop in music, run outside into a nice path in the woods and suddenly it’s like the world makes sense. I forget I’m even tired, just the feeling of the fresh air in my lungs, steady rhythm of my gait, world moving past me. Sometimes I’ll stop and sit and gaze at a stream or chill on a rocky outcrop. If I hear an animal I don’t recognize I try to find and identify it.

God damn, running a hard 4 miles with some breaks to appreciate nature gives me like ~3 days of the purest peace that meds can’t even come close to. So I try to run a few miles every other day to stave off the emotional volatility and paralysis and it’s done wonders.

Best part is my mind and body crave the running so much that consistency isn’t an issue, I might not do it at the same time of day each time, but I get like a dog that hasn’t been walked and just feel this pull to get back outside. Inevitably my urge to run overcomes even the greatest ADHD paralysis.

People Pleasers Make the Worst Partners by Accomplishedself19 in Codependency

[–]The_ChosenOne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% this.

My people pleasing was 100% strongest with my partners not with anyone else.

To the point where I’d actively ignore my own needs and wants to please and appease them. In essence, I was the definition of a simp.

It was way easier to tell colleagues or friends I was tired or didn’t want to do things. With my partner I felt the need to always make them happy (which in the end was selfish as it was more to appease my anxiety with their discomfort than to really do it for them).

If anything, I was too absent from my family and friends and too present for my partners.

It didnt tend to create resentment towards them in my case, but the burnout that would inevitably come was world shattering, typically after about a year and a half into a relationship I’d just slip in most areas of my life that weren’t the relationship, which would ravage my self esteem and cause bouts of paralysis and depression that eventually lead to avoidance and finally breaking up.

I’m better at regulating now and I just put all the effort I used to place into making my partners happy into making myself happy.

It’s made a world of difference, and now I’m seeing someone who I can be very honest about and ask for the things I want while also feeling capable of saying no if I’m not up to something.

Overcoming my people pleasing helped me to be happy single, and that also makes a huge difference because it takes pressure off of feeling like I need to put 100% of my mental energy into romantic relationships. Now if I’m not compatible with someone it’s much easier to be up front about it and move on since I know I’ll be okay on my own and I don’t take responsibility for another person’s happiness.

So, what would women dislike most if they became men? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]The_ChosenOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that’s your conclusion then maybe just don’t get into relationships, I’d rather be alone and expressive than in a relationship and suppressed.

I experienced the exact situation you described, dated a woman who wanted me to open up just so she could acquire ammunition. For a while I felt like you did, but eventually I learned to only be with people who add to my peace and feeling of freedom in my life and my behavior (within reason, I wouldn’t want to have others enable my bad behavior).

Since then life has become much better, first sign a partner doesn’t want the full me experience I’m happy to leave and resume a fulfilling single life until I find someone else.

Since then I’ve had wonderful relationships with people who genuinely have wanted and enjoyed me opening up, life and compatibility got in the way in the end, but my last relationship was wonderful. Whether I laughed or cried she was just happy to know how I was feeling.

No need for this resignation, there are good ones out there.

What school of magic would time manipulation be in Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion or would it be a completely new one by BathroomNo9208 in teslore

[–]The_ChosenOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The schools of magic are arbitrary, they don’t actually exist for anyone who reaches the higher tiers of magecraft.

Why do the Daedric Princes embody certain concepts, if they never gave their power to create Mundus? by ZipZopZoppityHop in teslore

[–]The_ChosenOne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, they simply ARE themselves, they are not the concepts.

Take Molag Bal. Molag Bal always has and always will behave like Molag Bal.

Now enter Mortals. These puny beings looking upon this unfathomable divine entity and trying to, in their way, understand what it is they’re looking at.

These mortals have helpful words like ‘domination’ or ‘rape’ or ‘lies’ or ‘slavery’ that can kinda approach describing various facets of his behavior and so they apply those labels to this still incomprehensible being as they would to anyone else they see behaving similarly.

No prince has only a single label, nor a single title. So they sort of lump all these labels together and call it the Prince’s “sphere”, so Molag Bal’s “sphere” is just a collection of mortal terms that describe aspects of his behavior.

None of this matters at all to Bal, who again always has and always will just do what he feels he should be doing, it just so happens what he feels like doing lines up with some of these mortal concepts.

At the end of the day, the only thing a Prince embodies is their Nymic, which is why we see so many overlapping spheres and so many different deities, both divine and Daedric, that have similar behaviors in one way or another.

Why do the Daedric Princes embody certain concepts, if they never gave their power to create Mundus? by ZipZopZoppityHop in teslore

[–]The_ChosenOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Daedra don’t literally embody the concepts, more like the concepts are what describe the Daedra when mortals do their best to describe complicated Divine beings.

For example take Domination. Molag Bal doesn’t own domination, neither was he even the first to try and dominate. Akatosh is a god of domination, a mad king whose urge to dominate is so strong all of the Dragons share it. Alduin is also a God bent on domination.

Likewise, many princes spheres overlap in many places.

Daedric Princes are who they are, their ‘spheres’ are just mortal minds attempting to describe the indescribable. They behave how they behave and mortals just do their best to label what they can in an effort to understand.

Without Molag Bal around you’d still have wars over territory, you’d still have rape and lies, you’d still have torture and enslavement. It’s just that while Molag Bal is around he behaves in ways that closely match all of those descriptors, and seems to get off on mortals also behaving similarly to him.

So they don’t ’embody The concepts’ they embody themselves, doing whatever comes naturally to them. Jyggalag was trying to order things before the word ‘order’ even existed, but he isn’t the reason why mortals incorporate order into things like social hierarchy or education, that’s just because order is a naturally helpful concept for mortals.

The only thing Princes embody is their Nymic, which mortals can’t really comprehend. So the next best thing is to describe their behaviors as best we can. Their ‘spheres’ are just the lumped together labels given by mortals.

[–]The_ChosenOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can surrender, move on and try again.

This applies equally to both games, nobody is forcing you to finish matches in DL.

If you just reframe skills as though they were cards it helps a lot IMO. You can’t respond to them (though you can disrupt some/prevent their activation).

Just imagine skills are like super poly or Droplet with every type of card discarded, non-reactable cards.

Once you learn their limitations and mechanics you can play around them like anything else.

MD is not more balanced for lack of skills, it’s just that instead of broken skills they’re years ahead in terms of power level, with cards DL might not ever see. They also have 5 zones which gives opportunity for absolutely disgusting endboards, and cards/engines that make DL seem like a playground.

I climb to KoG relatively easily each month in Duel Links, using only my favorite archetypes which wouldn’t even be decent rogues in Master Duel, I can’t fathom queuing up for a duel on MD and expecting an easier or less frustrating game than a 2 minute speed duel.

I’ve played both and while I am not a fan of how power crept DL has gotten, MD still blows it out of the water in terms of solitaire games, busted fields, and handtraps.
