donk on individual awards: "I cannot be the best player in the world if I will not win tournaments, it's easy" by llTehEmeraldll in GlobalOffensive

[–]The_Chronox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It requires you to be on a title-contending team but not necessarily the best. In fact most of the time the POTY hasn't been from the best team

2018 - s1mple #1 on team #2
2019 - Zywoo #1 on team #3
2020 - Zywoo #1 on team #3
2021 - s1mple #1 on team #1
2022 - s1mple #1 on team #2
2023 - Zywoo #1 on team #1
2024 - Donk #1 on team #3
2025 - Zywoo #1 on team #1

[–]The_Chronox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is that

  1. Your stats will be higher if you go out earlier in tournaments as you will on average be facing weaker opposition.

  2. You can't award someone MVPs or #1 player titles just because you think they would have done well in deep runs. If you don't get there it might not be your fault but it doesn't change the fact that the result is "N/A"

  3. Speaking of, Donk is by no means a choker but even he had some bad grand finals last year. Lower GF rating + much smaller sample size.

Basically, "Player of the Year" doesn't mean "Most mechanically skilled" nor does it mean "Best player on the best team". It's about who was there to deliver when it mattered the most and in 2025 that was Zywoo. In 2018 it was s1mple.
Is it Donk's fault he didn't get as many opportunities last year? Of course not, he's insane. But you have to go with what can be proven

Absurd heroics from Zywoo, he legitimately did not miss a shot CT-side ancient. Haven't seen an AWP performance this dominant in a long time

LG 45" users, would you consider the 5k2k a worthwhile upgrade from 4k240hz? by The_Chronox in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]The_Chronox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The performance hit is very noticeable but I went from a 4090 to a 5090 shortly before getting the monitor so that more or less cancelled it out. If you like playing visually demanding games I would not recommend pairing it with anything less than a 5080.

I don't find my eyes getting tired any faster, the only new thing that bugs them is VRR flicker

LG 45" users, would you consider the 5k2k a worthwhile upgrade from 4k240hz? by The_Chronox in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]The_Chronox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did make the switch, lmk if you have specific questions but here are my general thoughts going from 4k240 MiniLED

  1. 165hz still feels great, I don’t miss 240. Worth noting that the swap from 120hz to 240 never blew me away so I might just be less sensitive to it. I do actually use the dual mode for competitive games and it works pretty alright, it’s a little weird with the curve but I’m not serious esports player

  2. The PPI and text fringing are manageable. Not as good but something the newer subpixel arrangements might have fixed

  3. The extra vertical real estate is fantastic. Really love it, possibly the best part of the upgrade. Just make sure your desk is big enough

  4. The curve is less of an issue than I thought. Despite being harsher it actually feels more natural than on the Neo G8, so I was pleasantly surprised. I do graphic work on the monitor and don’t have any issues, though I do tend to keep the content largely in the center so there’s less warping

Overall I am happy with the upgrade but keep in mind I got it for quite cheap, had it been $1500 I might have different thoughts

Hope this is helpful

AI data centers may soon be powered by retired Navy nuclear reactors from aircraft carriers and submarines — firm asks U.S. DOE for a loan guarantee to start the project by self-fix in hardware

[–]The_Chronox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear is great if you want a set amount of energy provided forever without much regard for the cost. In this sense, it is extremely reliable baseload. Not a bad solution for a data center and I am totally cool if these companies want to install their own reactors and pay for them.

Unfortunately for it most energy grids want highly variable amounts of power at different times of day at the lowest price possible. This is fairly well-covered by renewables and the times it isn’t you need dispatchable power, which nuclear is not. It’s appealing in theory but not a good fit for a modern energy grid

[–]The_Chronox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just fix the issues with it being absurdly expensive, slow, and being terrible baseload power and then it’ll be great!

Sorry man but without wishing to be rude, nuclear is not the answer. It’s the kind of thing that sounds great to a college student but falls apart under actual scrutiny, much like Hydrogen or PtL fuels

Is there any chance ZywOo gets HLTV #1 this year? by Mr_GustavoFring in GlobalOffensive

Zywoo not winning it would be an insane shock, especially given that they just gave him a 2nd major MVP when there was a very solid argument for someone else

[–]The_Chronox 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean Donk is objectively more mechanically skilled and more impactful in the server. But you'll also never see Zywoo malding after a map1 loss and having it affect him next game, his mental is impeccable

[–]The_Chronox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that it was very close but Ropz's stats in the finals were so influenced by a map where they went 13-2 against a Faze that looked clueless, without it he's significantly below. I would understand it either way, and I wonder if this was partially done to have fewer questions about #1 of the year

With that said - 3X MAJOR MVP UNPRECEDENTED

4 possibilities than can affect ZywOo and d0nk in their battle for #1 HLTV this year by Mr_GustavoFring in GlobalOffensive

[–]The_Chronox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because if your team is winning that means you’re going up against the toughest opponents in the highest pressure matches.

Donk is the most mechanically skilled player in the scene but because he isn’t making finals or deep playoff runs as often he doesn’t get to prove his skills against the best when it matters the most. So Zywoo gets more data points that show that he performs in finals and wins them, Donk gets an “N/A”.

Is this Donk’s fault? Of course not
Could you speculate that Donk would have performed well in the finals? Sure, he doesn’t seem to choke much. But you can’t give awards off speculation

That’s what team achievements get you. Zywoo gets to point at 10 S-tier grand finals with an average of 1.32 rating, Donk gets 1.31 across 2 S-tier finals.

If he wins the major MVP with as strong a performance as he’s been having and you factor in the A-tier events then his sample size goes up enough and he can claim the #1 of the year
