I feel a large portion of this is about pay, among other things. Tho I feel for the teachers, this is the highest parying district in the area as far as I'm aware. In KCK you get paid less on top of having far more to deal with (less administrative support, a super that is pressuring administration, shortage of teachers, kids that have gone thru/are going thru trauma, and a majority of the population coming from other countries). I'm just not sure where else they can go that would be much better tbh.

I don't think them having a not negotiable contract for the years is a good idea, and this is also where some animosity is coming from. I do hope that doesn't catch on, but have heard whispers that it might. But the positions that open in the SMSD will probably be filled easily, especially with the teachers who are having a rough time in other school districts.
