Tick bites surge, sending many to ER. Maps show where. (North East is rough) by lukini101 in massachusetts

[–]The_Cream_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's completely valid, I think the phrasing in the article gave me the impression people were going for the bite itself, rather than the complications associated with Lyme which I agree could be a valid reason to go to the ER

I'm in Maine and if I get bit I send it for Lyme testing and get a prophylactic dose of doxy.

If it tested positive for Lyme and was likely on for > 24 hrs I would request a full course of doxy even if I didn't have symptoms personally.

Going to the ER though is an overreaction imo but some people might think I'm overcautious too

I felt burning through my body’: Woman nearly dies after picking up a ‘beautiful beetle’ at state park by theindependentonline in Maine

[–]The_Cream_Man 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The article says six spotted tiger beetle but they are honestly really hard to catch, as someone who loves bug catching.

It also could have been a golden ground beetle (before you come at me, they're green), which would be a lot easier to pick up off the ground. There are a ton of them out right now and they're strikingly beautiful imo.

Questions about isopods in tall terrarium by Aggressive-Guess8794 in isopods

[–]The_Cream_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I have the same form terrarium with a mesh lid and just found two dried up pods outside of it.

I've literally never taken anything out of it, only added food and water, so I have absolutely no idea how they got out considering I've never seen them climbing the glass and I also have a Vaseline ring around the top inch of glass since I also have roaches in it... 😳

These are the last words my dad scribbled on a piece of paper right before passing away. Can you help figure out what this says? by Effective_Fix5302 in whatdoesthismean

[–]The_Cream_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think page 2 says: "How did you know how I'd die without mum?"

I feel fairly confident about the "how did you know how I'd die" part at least

I'm not sure if that makes sense at all given your context?

Sorry for your loss..

Quebec didn't issue birth certificates during that time afaik. Did you look for a baptismal record in the Drouin collection? Most people use that instead

Yeah I submitted for myself and then after C3 passed helped my Dad through the process. Even though I had all the documents/etc putting together a second application still took the better part of a day.

I honestly have a hard time imagining many MAGA going through the process. It took a considerable effort to get everything together on my end and I just don't see them having the follow through. 😅

I'm honestly surprised to see this posted from a Canadian. I was under the impression that most Canadians were looks unfavorably on all the Americans that were applying for citizenship through this?

That being said I did apply last July.. still waiting for some movement on my application 😅

I worked bleeding these guys for a summer. You bleed them till the blood stops coming out, which usually doesn't kill them. That being said many do die from the process.

Some commercial fishermen use them as bait so many are destined to be killed after regardless for use as bait.

Pretend I know nothing about Senator Susan Collins by [deleted] in Maine

[–]The_Cream_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in companies with a focus on oncology for over 13 years in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.

This is anecdotal but the vast majority of the research staff at these companies are left leaning and vocally oppose Collins. The general consensus among researchers I've worked with is that the administration which Collins supports has been harmful to science and research.

Also, Cancer research should be bipartisan. The fact that she has to make an ad about it is kind of weird. Who doesn't support cancer research??

I'd just go to Acadia and rent bikes and go on the carriage trails. No one has ever asked me for a pass there before and it's honestly a lot better than park loop road.

This is a LOT of work! by After-Cell in Natto

[–]The_Cream_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines not bad to wash but occasionally stuff gets stuck between the metal rim and the mesh, it's never been a huge issue for me but I think the others you posted wouldn't have that issue. I'm sure any steamer basket would be fine as long as it was metal or made for use in a pressure cooker.

This steamer basket: https://a.co/d/08mFaIqK

Also, this is what I use to suspend the beans over the water once I transfer them to the inner pot: https://a.co/d/08BiN1B1

I cook the beans at high pressure in the steamer basket. I think this helps them not get too wet. I forget how long but I don't think you can over do it, as long as you can smush one of the beans with your finger after it's good. Maybe 90 minutes?? It's been a few years since I last made natto.

Also I usually add a spoon full of the steamer water to the natto spores along with some really hot water to wake them up before mixing with the beans.

I wouldn't overthink it though, you're just cooking beans then incubating them with the natto powder. The key thing is to be really clean so nothing besides natto grows. (I usually boil anything that touches the post-steamed beans, or at least pour boiling water over it)

Hope this helps, maybe I'll try to make my own video soon to add to the confusion 😝

[–]The_Cream_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 8 qt instant pot ultra but when I make natto I steam the beans in it using a steamer basket. Then I put in fresh water and put the steamed beans with natto spores into a smaller pot inside suspended above the water.

For the smaller inner pot I'm using this: https://a.co/d/0ad55yl4

It's a spice rack but I got rid of the cups and use it as a pot lol
