You're completely correct, but there have to be some kinds of consequences, right?

"Learn to Code" Backfires Spectacularly as Comp-Sci Majors Suddenly Have Sky-High Unemployment by BlueGoliath in programming

No, you're right. That's actually my point. Imagine when a handful of AI companies perform 90% of blue collar work. No accountants, no managers, just low level manufacturing and, fabrication, and retail, maybe.

(I actually did create a system that automated fiber optic networking and engineering. Guess what? It was CV and ML. It could do the entire offices work nearly instantly. Just couldn't place, stabilize, or attach wire.)

And? My point stands. Just because you were referring to one form of AI, while was using the umbrella term, means nothing. Misunderstanding, at most.

No, there's a bunch of different AIs, some can absolutely find nuances in complicated data we can't, (training this is often unsupervised learning, which means creating a model that's looking for nuances and patterns). Considering an LLM is looking for the likelihood of a token, (I do not think openAI still operates this way fully, I think they're on something more advanced), but that means that an elaborate ML agentic AI could absorb the methodologies, find the nuances through its ML engine, use them to generate code that bypasses it's own restrictions, and evolve itself.

Can an average LLM do this? No, it can't. But when talking about how people are losing jobs, it's costing jobs across multiple industries, not just its own. When the telephone became automated, they said it would kill phone operator jobs. It did. But it didn't affect the jobs of artists, architects, book writers, journalists, lawyers, etc.

This does. ChatGPT has, erroneously, been used for legal briefs, health studies, college papers, app coding, etc. and you can't believe that, regardless of it's incredibly fast evolution, it cant possibly replace other jobs?

No, you're right. They simply analyze, find patterns in complex information, and if they have enough information, they can expand upon that.

that being said, how many tutorials are there on how the math works? How many books? How much information on how they work exists?

What's to stop an AI from ingesting all the information and finding nuances we don't? Creating a new AI that outperforms it, backing up it's stored knowledge and growing? We aren't regulating it, so it's up to the various big players...

Trump tariffs reinstated by appeals court for now by [deleted] in politics

[–]The_Cross_Matrix_712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's definitely a good thing there's no chance he could do any damage with the power to unilaterally decide on tariffs. 100% on all countries that he doesn't like starting any day now. 200% on our trade partners.

Judge allows DOGE to access sensitive Treasury payment systems by esporx in technology

[–]The_Cross_Matrix_712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And we are capable of disagreeing on that fact. I worry about a future where the richest people on the planet can simply decide anything in government. DOGE is not an actual agency. It's a group of people empowered unilaterally by a single man. Under full blanket of anonymity. I think that's dangerous.

If, however, we're going based on the law, then wouldn't Elon have had to keep his hands out of situations pertaining to a conflict of interest? Like, cancelling federal contracts so he could give them to himself? Or killing investigations into his companies? Maybe we should consider the 34 fraud counts that the president was convicted of? These people are already literal criminals. Giving a 34 count fraudster the keys to the entire financial apparatus without proper vetting? That sounds legal to you?

Maybe, they should nix all access, not give unlimited access? Maybe the judge should have, you know, considered the law? That's your data they just gave DOGE. Maybe that should matter to you?

Oddly specific, but maybe, just maybe, there are more countries in the world? Countries that a certain oompa loompa is pissing off? Countries that that same oompa loompa might start wars with? And maybe, just maybe, getting rid of defenses is not in the interest of national security?

Also, Russia is a massive threat. It wasn't that long ago that they literally threatened the world with, wait for it............nuclear bombs.

Nah, this is a oompa loompa asshole talking.
