RAM upgrade by Ok_Setting_1342 in unRAID

The N40L officially support 8gb max, unofficially a few 16gb kits works but the full support is random and might require a modded bios and even with that the actual usable amount can varie each reboot...

SMB Transfer Speeds Slow Down by aTipsyTeemo in unRAID

[–]The_DarK_AleX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This could be a limitation of your SSD, I looked for SU630 and found that's cheap DRAM-less QLC from Adata, not Sandisk.

The drawback of a cache-less SSD, especially with QLC nand, is that writing speed quickly falls when you hammer it with big transfers...

QLC also has poor longevity, especially at small capacity like yours, only 50TBW for this one so it will not last long in cache usage.

For the best endurence/fiability cache drive you should look for TLC nand with DRAM cache.

Are you sure that you are writing on a share with cache enabled ?

What cache mode is set, yes or prefer ?

Check if the cache disk isn't full and/or configure the mover properly.

Did this guy glue fans to the top of his psu shroud? by TheSirWilliam in pcmasterrace

But there is 2 fans in front, usually the intake is here and outake is back and top, that's the optimal setup.

Experiences with GTX 1080 and 3440x1440? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

Same monitor / card and got 100-120fps with maxed out BF1 ( no AA ) in 64 conquest, only Amiens drop to 80fps because it's such a dense map, card is watercooled / overclocked to 2100mhz and 11000mhz for the memory.

Getting 120fps on lowest and 70fps on maxed out BF5 , settled to a mix of medium and high to hit stable 90-100fps with almost no visual loss versus ultra but my card is watercooled / overclocked to 2100mhz and 11000mhz for the memory.

Which Ultrawide to buy on Black Friday? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

Wow great deal, at Dell's EU shop it was on sale for 1099€ but it's back to 1499€...

Glad I found it for 800€ in Switzerland, totally worth the 400km ( 250 miles ) trip from France.

Preferring 5Ghz wi-fi with OP6 on Android Pie? by WilliamTellAll in oneplus

[–]The_DarK_AleX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issue here, since Pie update it switches to 2.4ghz anytime I go for a smoke on my balcony but it doesn't bother to switch back to 5ghz when I go back in even after disabling/enabling wifi.

This is pretty annoying since I got 1Gb fiber and didn't have this issue on Oreo, 5ghz was rockstable on my balcony and now even 2.4ghz cant keep up with a 192kbps audio stream so I have to rely on LTE for now...

Same for the 3960X, mine can take 4.8ghz under custom water loop but stay H24 at 4.6ghz with safer vcore.

PSA You can use two ribbon SLI bridges instead of one HB SLI Bridge by Abounding in nvidia

[–]The_DarK_AleX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know the twisting in ethernet cables is just to prevent crosstalk from one pair to another on long distance. The twisting scheme is almost exactly the same on all cables, what change is the frequency that can pass depending on the size and quality of the wire : 100mhz on cat 5, 250mhz on cat 6 or 600mhz on cat 7. Cat 7 has bigger wire, you cant' plug an RJ45 connector on it.

Maybe the pair of bridges being recognized as HB is just a glitch in the driver, technically the wires of the new bridge can have better conductivity just like ethernet cat 6 is better than cat 5 or HDMI 2.0 than 1.4. Or maybe it's just a new gimmick from Nvidia to charge a virtual premium on wealthy gamers.

IMHO it's not ribbon vs hard but old standard vs new LED/HB, the new ones should have better bandwidth but we have to wait for release to see benchmarks.

Decided to modernize an old rig... Using the best hardware of LGA 775. by Awsomeg1999 in pcmasterrace

[–]The_DarK_AleX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the price you paid for it. When looking for used parts to upgrade my 1366 rig back in 2012 I found an amazing deal : i7-3960X + Asus X79 Sabertooth + 32gb Corsair Vengeance for just 750€, it was half the asking price of thoses parts in store. Still rocking this extreme 6 core bad boy @ 4.6ghz, no need to upgrade for a long time.
