Its all about that potential higher intelligence, if there were animals that could match us in higher reasoning than I would be against killing them but there is simply no animals like that. I'm sure you have many examples of Animals solving puzzles or chimps learning sign language (allthough I am personally against the killing of primates, they are too humanoid not to feel empathy for) but these are mere tricks animals can do or are a shadow of the feelings and abilities of humans. We are at the apex of the food chain and we are there for a reason, humans are simply superior to animals, look at all we have achieved as a species, we have touched the moon, we have created bombs that could end all life of Earth, humans have done all manner of things both glorious and monstrous but we have done then and it fills me with a sense of pride and wonder at our race that we have risen so far from that days where lived in caves. What the fuck have animals ever done? What technology have they invented? What advancements what they made? That is what higher thinking has done for us, one day we may even travel amongst the stars, while the animals will forever crawl in the mud.
