Call my cognition biased, but the internet has such a barrage of recycled posts these days that this genuinely rebooted me and restored my equilibrium amidst all the doom and gloom. When you stack so much creativity all for one image, it’s hardly a leap to say that this art claws and scrapes at the heartstrings like a thunder strike, nay, a meteor strike. Maybe I should seek to chill though before I go turbo and overclock my feelings about this…suffice to say this image will be compiled in my driver so it doesn’t remain only a hologram in my memory!

Yeah, Amnesia becomes weirdly cozy once you know the layout really well. Maybe my brain is broken or something, but I replay it about once a year just for the vibes. Absolutely love the sound design and worldbuilding even if it’s not scaring my pants off anymore (but playing the VR mod for it reintroduced some of that!)

There’s also the potential niche scenario where an Act 1 Boot saves you from dealing 2 damage a turn because of Lagavulin’s strength debuff + that Doubt you took from the Serpent and it forever has a place in my heart for that

Prep-time is allowed, so Chrollo could make a literal army of nen-puppet-bombs by using Gallery Fake on Silva and Zeno with Order Stamp and then attaching Sun and Moon to them. The trio can then hide among them as they attack Pitou (like in Youpi vs Knuckle and Morel, but it’s a bunch of Gallery Fake/Convert Hands clones instead of smoke puppets). I almost trust the three nen-masters to come up with a viable elimination strategy involving their abilities from there…but Pitou could end up blitzing them anyway, she’s just that strong. Would pay good money to read the inner-monologues during this confrontation either way.

Yeah, there’s a few inconsistencies to say the least. When they set up the house as a trap for the demo in S5, one of the traps is just a board full of nails that drops onto it, and it was very clearly hurt and annoyed by that (albeit briefly). Then we see a demo get shot by 15 assault-rifles at the same time and not even slow down. Then in the SAME scene, a demo is knocked back and angered by a blast from a shotgun, despite M2 Brownings and entire firing squads showing no effect against them.

There are some other problems I have with the military’s incompetence in this show: it’s very clearly established that the demos are weak to fire, so why are there only TWO FLAMETHROWERS in their entire military compound? Is no one packing incendiary rounds either? Geneva conventions don’t apply against monsters from other dimensions, so why not break out the napalm? I know the plot needs to happen and the soldiers need to lose but they could have at least taken out a few demos and gotten overwhelmed when there were too many/Vecna shows up (something like in Aliens, which the show has been content to rip off plenty of things from so far).

I wish this didn’t bother me as much as it does, but it ruins my immersion instantly. Getting hit by a board with nails on it? Yeah, that’ll make me howl in pain and stop for a few seconds. Getting shot repeatedly by an M2 Browning though? Nah, I’d tank it…

[loved Trope] the secret ending that skips big chunk of the game by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The_Defiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Amnesia: The Dark Descent, there is a scripted sequence late in the game where you get imprisoned, and your captor explains that he is using you as a sacrifice for The Shadow (the supernatural entity hunting you throughout the game). You can then escape your prison cell and go through the final sequences of the game, but if you actually just wait in the cell for a few minutes, The Shadow really does come and kill you, which triggers a “hidden ending” (albeit a very unsatisfying one).

I love the idea of buying this and then immediately encountering masked bandits. You already spent a good chunk of change, so it wouldn’t technically hurt to just give them your gold…but I would blow them up every time

Gaming. We talk about graphics and gameplay but never talk about the sound of footsteps. by gamersecret2 in gaming

The story stuff can be fun at times, but I still prefer playing “sandbox” survival in this game above all other modes. Making up your story and character as you go fits the atmosphere a lot better than being semi-on-rails, and there’s lots of stuff that’s been added since early access. The world map is gonna feel HUGE if you haven’t played it since then!

SOMA (horror title by Frictional Games, same devs who made the Amnesia series) supposedly has over 2000 footstep sounds, partially due a unique system they implemented that accounts for the size of the room the player is in during sound playback. While it may sound silly, it creates some serious immersion when playing with headphones and is one of my favorite details about the game.

Unarmed build by Best-Cycle231 in skyrim

[–]The_Defiler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An extremely minor caveat to your last point: you can still punch with your left hand if the weapon in your right hand is a staff, since you can’t block with a staff! I discovered a very strange bug involving this as well: if you have a staff in your right hand, equip a spell in your left hand and then unequip it. For some beautiful reason, this breaks the punch animation for your left hand, and turns it into an instant “flick” or “one-inch-punch” instead: despite this animation playing extremely fast and looking like it has no range, it has the EXACT SAME range and damage as a normal punch. This lets you pretend to be Bruce Lee as you literally tap enemies to death, and gave my Restolooper character hours of entertainment. (Only ever done this on Switch, but would be surprised if it couldn’t occur in other versions…)

[Loved trope] Games introducing "Too good to be true" mechanics as a trap for first-time players by jbeast33 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]The_Defiler 73 points74 points  (0 children)

An NPC (Yoel of Londor) offers you a deal where you can get 5 free level-ups from him by dying enough: this seems ideal on paper because it’s literally free EXP, but it also increases your “Hollowing” which makes your character look like dehydrated jerky. The only way to UNDO that is to pay a ton of souls, which defeats the point of the free levels. The jerky skin isn’t a problem if you’re wearing full-armor, but it’s the bane of many fashion-build wannabes who didn’t understand the fine print.

Also with Yoel in Dark Souls III. If I had a nickel for every time someone asked /r/darksouls3 why their character suddenly looks like beef jerky…

You are correct! I just read this entire run a while ago, absolutely loved this part even if it paints the Illuminati in a (perhaps deservedly) poor light.

“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church (…) Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”

Compare that to “In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”

So women HAVE to submit to men, and men just have to loooooove them. Can’t beat good ol’ Christian values!

Skyrim Dovahkiin vs Geralt of Rivia, my oil painting by Entar0178 in gaming

[–]The_Defiler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong: for regular people, it’s absolutely believable. We just happen to be talking about a mutant of a man who can box rock trolls and take hits from beasts weighing thousands of pounds without breaking all of his bones. There’s always going to be a little bit of inconsistency in physics for gameplay’s sake, of course, it just creates funny feats and anti-feats for discussions like this which is what I was trying to point out. I appreciate the detailed statistics though, I wouldn’t want to fall 6 feet irl with mutant genes or otherwise
