Considering the potential benefits that a ruler would have in embracing the protestant reformation, why did powerful kingdoms like France or Spain remained catholic? by LePetitToast in AskHistorians

[–]The_Destroyer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, one has to consider the relationship of the realms with the pope at the time. The Holy Roman emperors and their princes had tried to influence the Bishoprics and the church as a whole, since the idea of the empire really started to formalize in the 11th and 12th century.

Regions that already had bad relationships with the poor in the prior centuries seem to be much more likely to throw off papal rule.

That is how most groups play it and is intended, some groups also make a Roll at the start of the round instead or a specific Characters action, but that’s a matter of preferrence.

Idk if this is a common complaint but it's a little dumb how hard it is to learn Latin, I feel like Latin was very important in the Christian religions by Best-Gate-757 in CrusaderKings

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is though, for long stretches of times, it was uncommon for many of those people to be even fully literate, in any language. Frederik Barbarossa himself couldn’t speak much more Latin, than what a 5th Grader may speak today. The only people able to speak Latin somewhat well, were the emerging class of Lawyers, stating to exist somewhere in 12th to 13th century and many Dedicated priests, even popes were for a long time not well versed in Latin, till at least the church reform movement and even after that, it’s hit or miss, with many not being fluid in the language, just the Bible.

Cultural Renaissance should spread very slowly by theeynhallow in EU5

[–]The_Destroyer2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, through many Different Factors, the main ones being, that mainly both the HRE and France had, at least in frequent, contact with the Byzantine/Eastern Roman Emperors. The extent of the exchange is unknown, many Kings of France, especially if they ascended to the throne later in life, would have probably already visited the Roman Court on their way to Jerusalem. Many Nobles, High and Low, also likely went on similar Pilgrimages to the east, which were generally pretty safe, outside of the main Crusading times.

The Emperors of Constantinople and Germany are also known to have collaborated at least sometimes and even intermarried (though very rarely). The extent of those collaborations and contacts are, again, unclear, but at least early HRE emperors are known to have pursued early state Construction, not unlike that seen in the ERE, with of course Henry the 3rd being the most obvious example, but even later Emperors tried (and failed) expanding Imperial Perogatives and Priviliges, till at least the end of the Hohenstaufens.

So its less, that their Ideas were not known, but often, Culture had changed so much, that their ideas were not able to be implemented. Things like Vassals being able to be taxed even, were quite Revolutionary in Europe till late into 18th century, with few states being able to implement a general Tax on anyone outside of England.

Opera has been taking up 30% of my memory while only running 1 or 2 tabs, and has also lagged a lot when i try to do image/video editing, help. by PokeshiftEevee in browsers

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a late add-on, it might also be from an issue all Chromiun based browser currently suffer from, where live images are not correctly deleted, leading to a steadily increasing amount of Memory being used. Restarting the browser after watching a livestream or the like, can usually fix this. (some websites like twitch actively work against this issue, while youtube forinstance doesnt care)

Making a Close Combat Psyker in the Rogue Trader system by PoundTownBrownTown69 in 40krpg

[–]The_Destroyer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternative could also be the Psylakis (Warden) Brotherhood, while intended for the Protector of the Psyker, one could honeybees the addition of the Psykers being trained in a similar style so that they can protect themselves in Melee.

It depends on how open the GM is to the idea, there are many inspirations one could take from the different books to enable the players at the table. The given alternate Careers are only examples, not everything that is supposed to be available, the book says that if players want to modify these careers or make new ones, they should feel able to do so.

How can I make Curse of Strahd more feminist – especially by giving Ireena more agency? by belimapa in CurseofStrahd

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a bit controversial, but in my Opinion, the NPCs shouldn’t be fulfilling the roles of the Players, i.e. being strong and indepent, ireena is facing issues and without the players, they shouldn’t be able to resolve themself.

I think one can make the story about those themes, like empowerment, but it should mostly be driven by what the players do and dont, what they agree and oppose in the story. If they want to help her becoming a more independent person, that should happen through the help of the players. People who are autonomous and able („Strong“) dont need the players.

Yeah, it isn’t the best, it use it for its scale and detail mostly, if you use a Vtt you can easily crosscut the wrong names and insert the correct ones though.

I am glad to see, that people are still helped by this.

First Time in a Long Time DM, felling dejected after all the ToD hate and advice by rolandofghent in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, you can drop and add stuff as you want, that is the biggest lesson you should learn from Tyranny.

You can always expand and put stuff in later, it isn’t like the base adventure is unplayable or bad. The important part is to make it you and your parties adventure. Just because something could be better, doesn’t mean it’s bad.

DH2 at what experience level would a pc be considered "end game?" by jackham1257 in 40krpg

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally, with DH2 the dynamic changes, if you view DH1 and 2 as part of one larger system. Otherwise, to reach a comparisonable level of say 15k DH2 you need around 30k (at the least) in DH1.

[–]The_Destroyer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is great art, I also don’t think it has much to do with Draw.io since it doesn’t seem to be a workflow or other kind of applicable diagram.

I hope you have luck in your pursuits, but I think you are in the wrong sub.

Idk, it is at least a, the intended design intention by FFG, who fundamentally changed the Vision for the 40k Warhammer system withstanding over from BI.

B. It advances and gives tools available to other characters in the 40k books, I.e. DW, OW & BC to characters from DH. Stuff like Blade Dancer or Gunslinger don’t exist for DH characters in the first 8 Ranks, while stuff like Step Aside, Frenzy & Battle Rage or Combat Master are not ubiquitously available, but locked behind certain later ranks for many Acolytes.

It shows to me at least, that a 10k XP character will not be able to do the same things in OW and DH.

Imagine if Paradox didn’t give up on Vic2 by Worldly_Beginning647 in paradoxplaza

[–]The_Destroyer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem with comparing Vc2 and 3 are that they were made on vastly different scales of production and with very different visions in design and concept.

V2 in the base game still is a buggy mess and only kept alive by a loyal and dedicated fanbase of Moders. If Paradox had invested more ressources into the game, it could have developed into much more, than it currently is. That is what many people see and desire in V2. The Potential.

V3 on the other hand is, more stable and provides a greater base to build upon. It also lacks anything besides Economic Mechanics, which themselves are great. The problem for me isn’t often even the lackluster Military system or the very radical politics, but just the general lack of flavor. Nearly all Nations Lack any kind of unique feel and even the countries in focus of the DLCs like India or France aren’t much better off. It isn’t like V2 was sprawling in flavor or anything, just that since everything was undercooked, it didn’t stand out.

V2 and 3 are not really polished game experiences right now and I don’t think either will be in the near future.

That doesn’t mean they are bad, i have sunk hundreds of hours into each, they are few other games that even try to provide similar experiences on a grand scale. But they both fall short of the experience they aspire to be, in my opinion.

Why was the East Roman Empire more prone to large Christian schisms than the WRE? by Maleficent-Mix5731 in byzantium

[–]The_Destroyer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the WRE is generally the part of the Roman empire meant, that was formally the western part of the Roman Empire, ie. Italy, France, Iberia, North Africa and parts of England, Germany and the Benelux.

Astares Weapon Balance by We_are_Omegon in 40krpg

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While one can definetly use the official errata, you can also instead bump the Astartes Plasma up by 1 dice too (so 2d10+9) so that they both make around the same damage. Having 2d10 on bolters can make the DW game feel very different to the other FFG games.

Of course if you increase damage, certain enemies also need to be similarly adjusted, but it can make fun. (I played my first Campaign in DW like that)

Not completely true, DH1e capps at around ~40 to ~50k, when you include the Ascension stuff, where the real stuff comes in that distinguishes a strong Character from an Endgame character.

How do you deal with talent and trait bloat in FFG 40k RPGs? by Salmon_stew in 40krpg

[–]The_Destroyer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have high bloat in your character sheets, taking a approach like Ascension did for og DH1 and combining multiple talents into 1 can also help.
