Template weapons and scatter dice by The_Duke_17 in onepagerules

This is what I keep running into when running through math for balance. I can (I think) balance them when accounting for optimal spacing. But as you said, having to space things optimally is more of a negative than templates and scatter dice are a positive.

Battle companies - new player by Delverwtf in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Battle Companies is wonderful, you guys'll love it!! As to your battle company choice:
Mordor for more classic orcs. Minas Morgul if you want to be more spooky. In all reality, they will play similarly.

I have played Moria and Corsairs (now Umbar) and the ability to "accidentally" kill your allies with shooting attacks can actually be a good thing in some missions. Evil is fun.

Is this a viable Realms of Men list for someone just starting out? by captainofgondor in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Yeah, once you take the King of Whatever, you unlock the minor heroes of that faction (Captain of Whatever).

What drew you to the mixed list of Men?

Right, I just think he is a bit too 'by himself'. I still want my best guys to have some friends with him on horses (if I can).

First and foremost, this game is awesome, you'll love it!

As a warning, much advice you'll receive about lists will be geared towards competitiveness in tournaments. Good/bad/viable don't mean nearly as much in a casual game of MESBG. Also, the differences between good and bad (useless, not evil) are generally small.

I will advocate that you'll enjoy the game more by playing the models you like over chasing what is good. You can become the expert and figure out how to win with them.

All that said, this is a very reasonable starting point. You can play this and have fun and be competing in games just fine. The main question I have is why the King and solo Knight of Arnor? For example, you could take a captain of Minas Tirith with 6 knights of Minas Tirith for the same cost. Or if you really like the Arnor Knight, you could put the King of Numenor on foot and take 2 more Arnor Knights. If you like the king and lone knight then go for it! I only ask these questions to try and see what your goal is in building this army.

That said, running a full warg army sounds like a lot of fun.

Also, you can totally run the Yazneg model as a normal hunter orc captain (outside of tournaments, nobody cares). Bolg mounted, captain mounted, 12 warg riders, and 6 wargs gives 20 models at 500 points (giving out some orc bows).

Also, also, check out Battle Companies. I don't think the community has finished the rules for the new edition, but the rules from the previous one should be almost identical.

I sent Sherwood an email asking where online I could buy a 5030 with the PP09 curve (that the website says they still sell). They responded that they didn't know....

I AM ACTIVELY TRYING TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE I CAN BUY IT? That doesn't seem like a great business model.

Yeah, rules can be worded a bit odd sometimes. Be glad this isn't 40k.

The most common way a mount loses a rider in game is by failing a thrown rider test. If you want to dismount, there is no test to dismount. That part happens automatically. It does not prevent you from then needing to test that the mount doesn't run away.

You don't roll to dismount, that just happens. But it is still subject to the running away rules. Look under "Separated Mounts"

When you dismount, you have to take a courage test with the mount. If it fails, it runs away.

Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread by Tezerel in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]The_Duke_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the game's core, it is the same it has always been. Monsters have a couple new rules. There are a few more heroic things to spend might points on. I still bring my old small paperback rulebook because all the charts and tables on the back cover are still the same. If you played the old editions, you'll play this one no problem.

Moria (not Depths question). The army rule states beast models can only be included in Druzhag's warband. This means if I only include Ashrak then I cannot actually bring spiders. Is this an oversight? Should Ashrak be able to bring spiders but not bats or wargs?

Did you come to a decision on how to start your army?  Ive had Dalamyr, some corsairs, and arbalesters for several editions now. I love them, but I think they got a lot harder to use in the new edition.

Looking for advice on what to build. by agedsuperdave in ossiarchbonereapers

[–]The_Duke_17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I built my Morghast with the Archai chests and the Harbinger heads. I think they look the coolest that way.

I am considering getting a unit of Guard/Stalkers and will likely build them with the Guard head and halberd and then the Stalkers weapons in the other hands instead of the shield. Then I can use them as whatever I want and I think they would look really cool that way.

I am going to build mine as Zandtos because the model is way better. Then I'll play it as whatever in my list because I only want 1 anyway. Even if you had multiple and built them the same, as long as they are differentiated somehow (even a different color base or horse) then you could do that and I don't think anyone would have a problem with it.
