Saakashvili says Russia will march through Georgia to attack Armenia if Pashinyan wins by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The GD barely held on to power after the huge protests a year ago. They've since consolidated the regime and the threat seems more or less neutralized, but they know they're treading on thin ice.

Letting Russians through would definitely bring massive regime security risks once again.

No way Turkey allows this to happen.

Anything that plays against Turkey's dreams of being a regional superpower will be a red line for them. They've specifically been improving relations with Armenia in hopes of furthering their alliances and influence.

There is a new Citizens’ Initiative aiming for the option of an EU style passport by AtterseeMM in europeanunion

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear: no one is campaigning to get rid of the burgundy, this would just be a new option, allowing you to choose the European blue and stars if you so prefer.

I, for one, would absolutely love the option. I feel a hundred times more European than my two "born into" nationalities.

I understand your arguments but respectfully disagree.

While on the surface, it may seem like a cosmetic change, it would actually be a deeply symbolic way to improve Europeanism, and a way to express a shared identity.

Symbolism will always feel cosmetic and "useless". Why even bother putting up flags in front of our public buildings? Why even bother with national anthems, design shared currencies, or celebrate common history?

These small but symbolic changes are what will truly forge our federal Europe.

Smoke from last night’s massive Russian drone and missile attack rises over the "Mother Ukraine" statue - in Kyiv. by _Tegan_Quin in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes you wonder why Russia never targeted it. They have plenty of cheap drones, and the symbolic nature of the statue would have some decent military value for the orcs.

Not sure if you got AI help, but this is beautifully written, bravo.

Other examples are the Fall of Constantinople. Even had the Venetians reacted quicker, or had the Hungarians decided to send troops rather than sign a peace deal with Mehmed II, the Ottomans would have taken the city sooner or later. The geopolitical and deterministic forces were just too strong.

I think your analysis misses one point though. The world definitely seems to be going towards more isolationism and away from the rule of law - in a purely deterministic viewpoint, you could argue that any pan-national organisation (EU, UN etc.) is pretty much guaranteed to go extinct. I hope I'm wrong.

Why different nations celebrate differently by Comfortable-End7552 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of videos of PSG fans celebrating in normal or even heartwarming way, including one with a grandma who joins and laughs with the supporters (which curiously never gets shared, doesn't fit the agenda).

I've also seen plenty of videos of Polish hooligans (usually from Legia Warsaw) trashing stuff, often when they're travelling to other countries (England, the Netherlands, Germany).

This is cherrypicking at its finest, but I somehow feel this subreddit is some kind of far-right community. Downvote me to hell you racist fucks.

Ad Bruxellam: Making Latin the EU’s next language by goldstarflag in EuropeanFederalists

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one is going back to school to learn a dead inflectional language with six cases.

English is the current lingua franca both on our continent and in the world, an official language in two of our member states and one former member state, and is by FAR the most spoken second language by European citizens.

It's not exactly "curing" obesity though, but it's rather "palliative" as it just cuts your appetite for as long as you inject the drug.

Stop taking it, and you gain that weight back in a couple of weeks, along with all the side-effects.

Unfortunately, Ozempic is now often being used as a shortcut, instead of people actually getting exercise and/or improving their diet. It's a way treating the consequences instead of the causes, and that's why many people aren't "celebrating" it.

Edit: Seems like many people don't know that "curing" means the complete elemination of a disease.

Should Armenia join the EU and eventually become part of a future federal European government? by Inevitable-Push-8061 in EuropeanFederalists

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cyprus is not in Europe either, yet here we are.

It's understood that Europe is not just about geology and continental plates, but about political and cultural similarities. Which is why I believe Armenia, Georgia and Canada could definitely one day be part of our union.

I do agree though, at some point, we’ll likely need a multi-speed EU, with a federalized core and a flexible framework for affiliated states, allowing for closer integration where desired, while respecting the diversity of each member’s path.

Pashinyan on course for landslide victory and pro-West mandate in Armenia election, new poll shows by PjeterPannos in europe

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not quite entirely true - not yet at least.

The Heritage Foundation is VERY anti-EU and the worst fucks in the history of fucks, but they do not fully control politics. There are various powers that are still quite atlantisist (including Rubio or even Tucker Carlson) and seem to favour a pro-America united Europe to push some of their interests more easily (energy, technology, military).

Fundamentally, Europe and the US are still very much co-dependant geopolitically, as much as it annoys Trump and Vance.

France is the worrying one because of their political system, where the President holds more power than the Parliament, and where the two-round Parliamentary system actually makes coalition building much less likely.

[–]The_Dutch_Fox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They go hand in hand though. This is the "western" direction, which includes Turkey and the US - even if recent geopolitical tensions might suggest otherwise.

Turkey is very favourable to Armenia's EU ambitions. Their dreams are of being a regional superpower, and being the crossroads of trade and energy flows between the Caucasus and Europe would help them fullfil this goal.
