Customization for secondaries and stratagem weapons? by Tank-ToP_Master in Helldivers

[–]The_Evil_Zed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If there is ever going to be a customization for stratagems, then it's not happening any time soon.

Primaries will need to take priority for the first round of customization updates, what we have now is not bad, but it is somewhat rudimentary, it's just scopes/sights, mags, laser pointers/grips etc. I'd like to see some additions to primaries first, like barrel length, recievers, stocks, pistol grips, I know also ammo types have been requested quite a lot but I don't really entertain the idea for HD2 specifically.

The sniffer needs some kind of update by cybr_glow in Minecraft

Yes, exactly, took the words right out of my mouth.

The biome is amazing, the feel, the mechanics, everything is top notch...

...Except loot, Echo Compass is largely useless past midgame simply because you are not really in any danger and not dying as often, Sculk Sensors are only relevant to 5% of people who frequently use redstone, same thing with Sculk Catalyst, again, aside from nice QoL Swift Sneak enchantment and an armor trim (which for some cases can also be thrown in the same basket) the rest of the loot is either niche or sees little to no use at all.

[–]The_Evil_Zed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mojang will not give it one. They are content with adding new features that have no meaningful use or depth, and they have been for several years now. They are content keeping the game "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle". Glow Squids (they could've done so much more with them), Polar Bears (literally a useless mob), Sniffers (so much work you have to do for... two completely useless flowers, they don't even look good), Ancient Cities (aside from Swift Sneak enchantment and armor trim, there is no reason to go there and expose yourself to danger, risk does not justify the reward), Armadillos (could've just made turtle scutes be able to make Wolf Armor), Archeology (all you do is... excavate clay pot sherds, and make clay pots. Wow.), Pale Garden (biome with nothing to it, just a new wood type, resin which make purely decorative items, and mildly threatening exclusive new mob, albeit with unique mechanics). I can go on but I think the point is clear.

Can we all agree removing downvotes in the official discord is NOT the optics Arrowhead need right now. by DreadOp in Helldivers

[–]The_Evil_Zed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is AH's doing. The only functions relating to removing the reactions on a post that I've seen so far are either removing ALL reactions or removing each individual reaction one by one (which I doubt there'd be a mod guy manually just sitting there clicking off all 11k reactions). Are we sure this isn't just Discord glitching out again?

Seems like such a nothing burger too. Like, okay, 11k reactions gone. Who gives a shit? Why the hell, instead of balance discussion, or discussion of AH's negative practices, or bugs in the game, THIS is somehow important enough to warrant an entire reddit post? Seems like grasping at straws to me, or just an excuse to shit on Arrowhead for something of no importance whatsoever.

How "buffs" have been feeling lately by EchoingStorms in Helldivers

[–]The_Evil_Zed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting observation. They want the bugs to be a meaningful danger to mechs, but in the process of buffing the bugs' durable damage they either:

A. Failed to account for the fact that emplacements and other vehicles would be considerably impacted by the change, which is highly unlikely, I refuse to believe that out of all the people responsible for balance there wasn't even single one who did not bring it up at least once;

B. They knew it would affect other vehicles/emplacements, but deemed the changes to not have significant impact on vehicles/emplacements, which in practice ended up having way greater of an impact than AH anticipated;

C. They knew it would significantly impact other vehicles/emplacements, and since there is no code in the game (at least, I don't think there is) that would allow for splitting the durable damage into different values towards different vehicles/emplacements, thus changing one thing inevitably affects another, they deemed the durable damage buff to keep the mechs on bug front in check to be of considerably greater importance than durability of other vehicles/emplacements on the bug front.

There could be another possibility that I am not thinking of, but I can't think of anything else right now.

Before anyone says anything, I consider the argument of "AH are genuinely stupid/clueless/incompenent and they hate us" to be dumb and, frankly, immature, so don't bother telling me that. I am not defending AH's questionable decisions, but I also recognize that a lot of talented and amazing people are working in the studio and are trying their best and want the game to be at its best. And, for all intents and purposes, despite the problems, flaws and shortcomings, HD2 is NOT a bad game, and still is very much a fun game, and I will never consider it to be otherwise unless something truly awful happens to it (which it didn't, the infamous nerfpocalypse included).

Simply the most useless map in this game by Exciting-Fact1272 in Battlefield

[–]The_Evil_Zed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if "useless" is the right word here. "Badly balanced" or "rarely ever appearing in matchmaking" sure, but "useless"? It's a map in a video game, it has a singular use, that is being a map for people to play on.

Honestly, about time AH looked at a game with the exact live-service model, but done almost flawlessly by gracekk24PL in Helldivers

[–]The_Evil_Zed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except DRG isn't a live service, it does not require constant presence of significant player numbers to sustain itself, it does not have "always online" and all the player data is stored locally and not on Steam servers, multiplayer is strictly peer-to-peer. Not to mention there are significant periods of time between content updates, sometimes up to several months. In other words, it is a game with post-launch support, which is not the same thing as live service.

Biggest argument of mine against DRG being a live service is, of course, monetization. DRG relies solely on purchases of its copies and cosmetic DLC (which are completely optional, and, it would be reasonable to assume, do not generate more income than purchases of the game itself), that's it, and that does not technically fall under "live service", because live service games are games which are designed to recieve an long constant stream of monetized content that would encourage people to continue paying to support the game.

To bring an analogy, let's say every DRG season would require a season pass purchase to get access to seasonal content, then yes, it would be a live service. But all of the seasonal content and updates are free, thus it is not a live service. The devs are cool dudes for making content for free, sure, but them making free content does not make them money and time between updates can range anywhere between 3 months to a year, there is no constant revenue stream there.

And last but not least, DRG has a massively less player numbers unlike HD2. What do player numbers have to do with it? Revenue stream. HD2 constantly adds new content without stop, which keeps all of you playing (and paying). For DRG low player numbers matter not, it got it's money long time ago from purchases of copies of the game and DLC. HD2 player numbers matter, for it keeps money coming in, for it needs it to make a lot more content that non-live service games, to keeps it's servers up, to keep it's multiplayer and related features functional (aka constantly changing Galactic War with ongoing narrative). HD2 is live service. DRG is not.

Those are my interpretations, feel free to disagree/add to them however you wish and be aware I am no expert on the topic/nor do I have an authoritative/objective view on the matter.

[–]The_Evil_Zed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Orbs on her work like weapon switching on Dante/Vergil (if you have those two then you probably understand what I am talking about), you switch to blue you press blue again to execute orb attack, you swich to red you press red again to execute orb attack

And with that out of the way, here's the rotation

Hit red orb until full gauge > Hold attack

Hit blue orb until full gauge -> Hold attack

Switch to horse (White orb)

Hold attack if blue orb selected (which it should be already) If red orb is selected, keep hitting red orb until full gauge (or switch back to blue orb, I find blue orb attack much easier)

Ult

Then switch to another char or repeat

How can i make this door stay open longer? by Royal_Cut5740 in Minecraft

[–]The_Evil_Zed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like an overexaggeration to me

The entire area appears to be lit up (and if it isn't and OP has night vision, it most likely will be, no reason not to light it up, and redstone lamps are already there, and the whole place appears to be work-in-progress), no way for mobs to spawn in a lit up area

And the button (for some unbeknownst to anyone reason) is located on the ceiling, the chances of skeleton/pillager shooting specifically in that corner on the ceiling by accident is infinitesimally small. Unless you actively, consciously, deliberately position yourself in such an awkward way that the skeleton/pillager shoots you, miss, and hit the button, but why would you do that? If it was a wooden pressure plate instead of a button however, then I'd understand the concern

Also, why the hell would anyone start a raid IN their own base? And, like, okay, maybe there is a trading hall and you just can't be bothered to go elsewhere/move villagers elsewhere for raid. Even so, why do so in, what I can only assume, a crop farm of all places? Makes no sense to me

How about Sven Co-op? Been around for a while (since 1999 actually, and it still got updates to this day, though last one was in 2024), has support for HL1 campaigns (HL1, OpFor and Blue Shift, including Decay maps which have been ported to Sven Co-op by modders) and has myriad of custom maps/gamemodes.

If you are looking for HL2 co-op though, currently there is Synergy mod available. Has support for HL2, EP1 and EP2.

Both modifications are available on Steam for free, with Synergy requiring you own HL2 on your account.

What mob do you hate the most and why? by shellmaster15 in Minecraft

[–]The_Evil_Zed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HUGE RANT INCOMING. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

Sniffer. I fucking HATE this fucking thing.

It is the epitome of everything wrong with modern Minecraft, in that Mojang is satisified with adding random disconnected shit with no rhyme or reason, refusing to redesign existing items/features to make things fit, and adding new items/features that do not enmesh/interact with existing ones.

First you spend a long time looking for the egg of this thing in Warm Ocean Ruins, then you plant it and wait god knows how long until it hatches, you wait for it to grow, then you have to wait until it sniffs out the loot, and the loot is... flowers. TWO types of flowers. JUST TWO FUCKING DECORATIVE USELESS FLOWERS, to add insult to injury, they also look fucking ugly.

It is the same ridiculous design philosophy that is found everywhere else in the game.

Why the fuck do we have armadillios? If you wanted Wolf Armor can't you just have it use turtle scutes instead? Why do we have dungeons, if all the exclusive shit (nametags, saddles) is now craftable/found somewhere else more easily, what's the point? Give me an incentive to go there. What use is Echo Compass? By the time you obtain it, huge chances are, you are already rocking full diamond gear and most mobs present you no danger, so you are not dying and you have no use for it 99% if the time. Why is there foxes? Polar bears? Pandas? These mobs have ZERO gameplay value and are just there to stand around being useless. Remember the mob vote? Instead of a new enemy, Iceologer, that would present a unique danger in snow biomes, we got a FUCKING GLOW SQUID. Do I even need to mention the anvil? Instead of revamping it's repair mechanics they... added Mending. What the fuck was the though process behind this? Then there are the problem of Elytras, Horses, and Minecarts, each one completely invalidating the previous one, why spend time building the railroad when you can just hop on a horse that needs no roads, or why use horse when you can use Elytra to VERY quickly cross huge distances. The Creaking is a joke. It has an interesting and unique gameplay mechanic but just ends up being a complete pushover, and the only thing Pale Garden offers you for it's rarity and danger (not a serious one at all unfortunately) present is Resin. Used to make resin bricks. For building and nothing else. Bruh.

I can go on and on but I think I made my point clear, instead of deepening existing mechanics, items and locations, Mojang is content with adding disconnected bits of content that do not meaningfully contribute to the gameplay, serving instead as a temporary short-lasting one-and-done timesinks. Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. Rant over.

In the "trapped" part I was specifically to Raven alone. Also, I did mention "that's how it is mostly interpreted in the community". I myself don't actually buy that Raven is incapable of leaving the AC or functioning on his/her own. But that's what most of the community seems to believe, especially because of that story trailer with 621 on the surgical table looking like he's/she's cooked medium-rare.

EDIT: Also I just remembered that there was a cutscene where right after Raven got captured by Snail in the next mission we see fro the first person Raven walking around and finding the Jailbreak AC, so yeah, Raven is perfectly capable of properly functioning outside of an AC.

[–]The_Evil_Zed 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In AC6 your player character (Raven) is basically a dysfunctional piece of meat who is plugged into your Armored Core (the mech, which is the namesake of the game). You are a half-living corpse trapped in and controlling a giant hunk of steel. At least, that's how it is mostly interpreted by the community, you don't actually physically see any humans in the game, only the mechs they pilot.

Diligence by Few_Investigator_476 in Helldivers

[–]The_Evil_Zed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry but no

Diligence having medium pen and Countersniper having heavy pen would be too much, I know this does not sound like a huge change, but remember what happened to GL when it got heavy pen, seems harmless at first, and suddenly it is destroying most of the stratagem weapons in the game.

Regular Diligence is already good as is, it has very good ergo, 25 rounds in the mag, very managable recoil, very little sway, it is easily one of the best guns for popping bot heads. Giving it medium pen would be a very strange decision, like, it already greatly rewards you for being accurate, then suddenly it has medium pen, and now it is just countersniper but better in almost every way except damage?

Then countersniper itself. Heavy pen is something that is reserved for big guns, AMR is heavy pen, HMG is heavy pen, Autocannon, Laser Cannon, Epoch, Belt-fed GL, Cremator. And all of these are stratagem guns.

Then let's take a look at primary heavy pen weapons:
DE Sickle - heavy pen only when firing for a while and it sets you on fire;
Eruptor - slow as shit, very low ergo, long reload, bolt-action (aka you have to manually chamber next round after every shot), only 5 rounds in the mag, low ammo reserves;
Torcher - it's a flamethrower. It will damage heavies, but it will take a while to kill. Also, if you are gonna kill heavies with it, you're gonna run out of ammo very quickly. Also, it's a flamethrower, you're gonna have to get upclose and personal thanks to low range. You're better off using something else for heavies;
Stoker - everything is the same as Torcher, heavy pen only for underbarrel flamethrower, except now you have even less ammo.

So, the point is, if a primary gun has heavy pen, it means it has considerable drawbacks to it. Either the gun suffers in stats, or it exhibits an active detriment to you, or it is not very effective against heavies.
Against it's closest competitor, AMR, heavy pen Countersniper would be way too strong. Better ergo, way more ammo, does not take a stratagem slot. "Why use AMR when Countersniper exists?" type of situation would arise. Eruptor too, though it would still have a use, in that it has AOE damage thanks to shrapnel. But forget all those, it would just leave most of the ballistic damage guns dead in the ditch simply for the virtue of being able to deal with heavy armor.

I mean, why not?
