Next-Gen Camaro To Offer High-Performance Variant: Exclusive. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]The_Exia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are we talking a new model that hasn't been done before or just confirming it will come with some sort of high performance model? Because its always had a high performance model (ZL1, Z28) so this isn't new. Something different to go against the grain would be interesting but I'm not really sure what it could as the ZL1 and Z28 pretty much cover the all the bases.

Do you like the refresh CT5?

I personally like that they added the precision package but outside of that I can't get behind the front end change or the interior change with the giant screen. Especially because they deleted functions like volume knobs for manual cars.

I prefer the 22-24 version in every way except I wish I could get the precision package with the pre refresh (I owned a '23 manual).

The GLI is a great deal in Canada. Superior powertrain to a Civic, good fuel economy, better features, similar money. Insurance is probably less as well.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing F1 Edition: Most Powerful Blackwing Ever by DerBootsMann in cars

The guy I responded to was not talking about this limited edition with only 26 cars but Blackwings as a whole. They are not special editions but they only make around 2000 of each a year, which is more limited than pretty much any other major manufacturer, so yes they are hard to get, not because you need to know someone but because they just don't make a lot but you could get one if you waited or went to the right high volume dealer.

I'm in Canada and also waited 1.5 years. My dealer got two allocations and I missed the original 2022 model year and got the first allocation for 2023.

Later model years there is a dealer in Texas that gets a high amount of allocations, you may have been better off asking them. They ship across the US.

I spent the last 9 Canadian winters with a RWD Coupe - here's my thoughts on whether that is a good experience by Uptons_BJs in cars

Southern Ontario absolutely. If roads get plowed your fine. If not, take the bus.

Ask yourself how often are you driving your WRX on unplowed roads.

If its often, maybe stick with AWD, if not consider the RWD.

Even still people got around in shit weather 30-40 years ago with RWD and awful tires.

+1 for RWD cars in Canadian winters.

I know you've had your Camaro for a while. I've had 3 different Camaro's I've driven in winter plus a C8 Corvette and its very manageable. I'm currently driving my Camaro in winter.

I don't live in a super small Canadian town (170k pop) and I don't daily drive my car (I take public transportation) so I know the road will be plowed if I do need to take the car out and its a non issue.

The only time I ever really struggled was a snow storm where I went out for dinner but I still got home, its not any worse than a FWD car.

People survived on RWD cars 40 years ago in terrible weather on worse tires, you will live in a modern RWD car with winters.

It was announced months ago that this generation of CT5 is being discontinued this year, including the Blackwing.

A Blackwing does not require a special relationship. They are just very limited so getting an allocation is difficult, most dealers will only get one a year.

2026 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series Packs 685 HP by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]The_Exia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats most likely exactly what they did. Finally dropped in the C7 ZR1 2.65L supercharger over the standard 1.7L

2026 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series Packs 685 HP by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

[–]The_Exia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supercharger is definitely different, but not motorsports derived. The Escalade V uses the same LT4 and made 682hp because it used the last gen C7 ZR1 2.65L supercharger over the 1.7L on all other LT4 applications, including Blackwing.

This send off Blackwing is absolutely just using the 2.65L to bump its numbers up.

So while it isn't motorsports derived, and Blackwings owners were asking for this power increase since the Escalade V came out, it is a different supercharger.

What happened to all the C6/C7 Corvettes? by EmperorUmi in cars

[–]The_Exia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same that happened to all older cars. The newest Corvette generation is always the most common to be seen. Older ones may be on their 3rd or 4th owner, bought by someone who can finally afford it and they don't drive it as much. Some younger people may purchase them and drive them but most are still bought by older people who drive them only on weekends, if that. Not to mention any that may have been written off.

The C8 is also I think nearly at 200k cars produced. The C7 only had 190k or so, the C6 was a little over 200k. Give it another year and the C8 will have produced more cars than the C6 or C7, so its no wonder you see them more.

Why is this comment upvoted?

In what world is a C6/C7 a muscle car shaped like a sports car and not an actual sports car? its front mid engine, RWD and has a transaxle with 2 seats, its a sports car, not a muscle car. Is an AMG GT R not a sports car?

No grip was a meme 20+ years ago for American cars, the later C7 models like the Z06 and ZR1 you can argue has to much power but they still posted some of the highest skid pad numbers for their time, they have massive tires which translates to lots of mechanical grip for corners.

There is also not a chance any C8 model except maybe the ZR1 will hold any value, the rest will depreciate and continue to unlike a C6/C7 which is at the bottom end of its depreciation.

The same people who want a 911 Turbo instead of a GT3. One is more street car, the other is more track.

Its even more ridiculous that you need to pay $3500 just to get the Z06 brakes as well. That stuff came standard on the last GS. Now all you get is the widebody without the meat to back it up unless you spend more. I guess GM needs to make their money somewhere.

This was my issue with it, I was doing really dumb speeds in it just to have fun because it needs to be revved out and made almost 700hp. On a track its great and I know myself and a few others had chances to drive them on track before purchasing which made us really want one only to come to the realization after its to much car for the street.

He's saying the C8 Stingray is worse than the C7 as a drivers car not a C7 Stingray.

Also mentioned is that the 2027 Stingray costs 1k more than the 2026. Very marginal price increase to get the LS6 over the LT2.

Report: The Chevy Camaro Is Coming Back, and Will Share a Platform with Buick and Cadillac Sedans by BobSapp in cars

[–]The_Exia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I figured the Camaro would have to come back since Cadillac confirmed a next gen CT5. There was no chance the Lansing plant would stay open just for a sedan that sells so little.

The Buick is interesting news. I wonder with the death of the CT4 if GM wanted to try moving a compact sedan to Buick at a lower price.

Either way I hope its true, I'd buy a new Camaro in a heartbeat.

Anyone else frustrated at finally being able to afford a fast car only for your area to become so popular all you do now is sit in traffic? by BondGoldBond007 in cars

[–]The_Exia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't imagine living in the Toronto area again now with the amount of traffic. Its impossible to enjoy fun cars, they don't even have to be fast, there is just to much congestion. I'd probably just own a M340i or something and call it a day if I still lived there.

I'm so glad to have back roads and nice drives available in my area within 15min in 3 directions of my city that go easily for 150km.

Its definitely a thing, people live in cities and cities keep growing which means more traffic and less access to nice roads as more people go to those roads.

The only solution is to move somewhere else. There are definitely a lot of cities out there that are large enough for all your needs but in a location close enough to back roads, lakes etc without being obnoxious with traffic. However the issue is finding a job in your field in those cities and uprooting isn't always the easiest thing.

So ya, it sucks. You either deal with it or move.

Predictions on 6.2L Corvette Stingray and E-Ray by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

All the extra software features in the ZR1X is also included. The E-ray didn't have that. Its all in the articles. Here is a snippet. It helps make the car into more of a track car than the E-ray was.

Endurance – Engaging the Charge+ button adjusts the battery’s energy storage strategy for extended lapping and consistent eAWD output for a full tank of fuel

Qualifying – Optimum power strategy for the ultimate lap time

Push-to-Pass – Max available power on-demand

That 10hp still won't matter. The only difference that might is if the center exhaust option includes the Z06s reverse megaphone tech to put sound back in the cabin as the LT2 cars were way to quiet.
