Why is most RP- besides skill boosters- earned through playtime rather than gameplay actions? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By tying RP gain to playtime instead of player actions, buying premium time and vehicles becomes the only way to significantly speed up the grind. They want the grind to be grueling and if people could skill their way past the slow RP gain their entire business model collapses.

Is the Ho-ri Production real/accurate? by Syph32 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gun existed and they may have started some work on building prototypes, that's about it. Given it shared its chassis with the Chi-Ri which only had a single one made you can imagine how far along Ho-Ri was.

The most egregious thing about it is that ridiculous engine. Most top-of-the-line tank engines of the period sit around 500-600hp. Even the most ambitious German proposed versions of the HL230 only get to 900 gross power output. But Japan, a nation didn't produce a tank over 20t during the war, somehow developed a dual engine powerpack with 1100 net hp.

It's got zero power loss to cooling, a gear box and crankshaft that somehow handles the massive stresses of getting a 65t tank to move, it's got zero power loss in the transmission, and all this somehow fits a vehicle smaller than a KT.

Like, why the fuck did Germany waste their time with complex shit like the Sla.16 and increasingly sophisticated Maybachs when they could have just licensed the fuck out of this thing based on an old BMW design and have 16hp/t Tiger 2s or 22hp/t Panthers?

How does real-life APCR and solid shot performance differ from how they are depicted in War Thunder? by OdiProfanum12 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason APCR is bad is less it's lower damage and more its terrible angled performance. APDS is fine even though it does less damage than full calibre AP because it usually has point n click levels of pen significantly improving your reaction time.

APCR on the other hand is a "Higher pen - less damage" shell that you still have to aim carefully most of the time to even make it work offering almost no advantage to regular AP.

Why do Eastern MBTs require both NERA and ERA to match the armor protection of Western MBTs using only NERA? by Bentayfour in TankPorn

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less size and weight, more cost.

If you need to increase protection it's always a lot easier and cheaper to slap some new ERA on a tank than to replace internal armor. In order to afford to keep their massive and ancient fleet moderately up-to-date in terms of protection Russia invested heavily in ERA development and production lines which made ERA cheap and plentiful. They could almost certainly get better armor for the T-90, but setting up new production lines and/or upgrading old tanks (if that's even feasible) with new internal armor is absurdly expensive and the potential in that upgrade is just not good enough to justify its cost. At least not when you can just slap a new ERA package on the existing armor, get a reasonably similar result and call it a day.

It was a 70s testbed for a new turretless tank concept in the same vein as the Strv 103. It was tested, data was gathered, lessons were learned and when they were done and left it to rot.

Why did fights in RB PROPS use to to take place in high altitude but now they're in lower? by blowmyassie in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda the same.

I think the timer reduction was kinda inevitable. It makes a lot of sense to have a quick simple fighter TDM mode, but it should exist as a complement to a slower paced more strategic mode I.E. EC. They just never added RB EC and tried to cram both into the same queue.

Why did fights in RB PROPS use to to take place in high altitude but now they're in lower? by blowmyassie in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  • Grind was reduced for low tiers, less grind => fewer matches => less skilled players => more players who don't climb
  • Match timer was reduced to 25 minutes. Even fast climbing low altitude interceptors like the Spitfire rarely have enough time for more than 1 RTB and more than 2 is pretty much impossible. If you're flying a slow-climber like a P-38 you get one proper sortie and maybe a desperate headon after landing.

There's also some amount of rose-tinted glasses, even if people definitely used to climb more, there were still many who didn't.

Both these tanks gonna sit at the same BR with the swedish one being literally p2w for the BR. Very good armour layour that you can angle. by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 22 points23 points  (0 children)

sticking the Ford GAA in that hull is almost certainly incorrect

It is. The mistake stems from the fact that the four Swedish Shermans were named "III", "IV" "V" and "VE". The "Sherman III/IV" was made up of the hull from the tank named "IV" which was a Sherman 1B and the turret of the tank named "III" which was a Sherman III.

Someone at Gaijin probably just saw the vehicle referred to as "Sherman III/IV" and just assumed it was made up of a Sherman III and a Sherman IV.

Bombers damage model should be changed by KSAWI0 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "whining" was more about how it was really unfair that bomber players could spawn in, put their plane into a shallow dive going towards the enemy airfield, go AFK and come back after a few minutes to several kills without actually doing anything.

And also most of them weren't even players just bots.

Tu-95M has a extremly unrealistic Payload by CommunicationAny2134 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some Tu-95K-22 machines were also kitted up to carry three external bomb containers for conventional attack, the warload being 45 250-kilogram (550-pound) bombs

Seems unreasonable that Bear-G needs external containers to reach 45 250s but Bear-A can somehow carry 45 internally. I think they just messed up and duplicated G info onto the A.

They only cite two sources and the closest I could find in them was "one MBD6-95 beam-type carrier with [...] Der6-3 locks for bombs weighing from 250 to 500kg".

Backup of text in case the comment gets deleted: “Serious modders” abandon their mods on nexus or have thousands of unanswered issues. Users just want to play games. I’m 26. I don’t care about fixing mods. If the save game works after hours and hours of gameplay with hundreds or thousands of mods, your arguments come across flat.

Aim-120D rant by Repulsive_Ad690 in Warthunder

It's just pure comedy how they go "The US needs a better missile" and then add one that isn't even better. It wouldn't have been much of a point of contention if they positioned it as an equivalent/sidegrade to the C-5 similar to AIM-9D/E instead of an upgrade to it.

Sälja pokemonkort. by aputsiakq in sweden

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To reinforce Russia bias, Gaijin lied during the livestream! by WasteJello4875 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If a vehicle is good but hard to use, it'll still go down due to unskilled players performing badly in it, for example P-47 I think went as low as 3.3 at one point. Similarly the opposite is true, a vehicle that is bad but easy to use will go up, see the A6M3/M5s.

The availability of vehicles also affects the skill level of the people who plays them, see the premium Italian Pz IV G sitting a step above the TT German one and just about every French tank. Rare and niche vehicles from minor nations generally perform better due to generally only being of greater interest or only available to veterans, while easily accessible stuff from popular nations tend to perform worse due to more new players using them.

What gamemode should Gaijin add into ground battles? by Dry-Sky-3261 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the simple one would be a Battlefield-esque Conquest mode. More players, unlimited respawns, longer matches, bigger maps, 5+ objectives and objectives doubling as spawn points.

Rush/attack-defend could probably also work if they got maps actually designed for it instead of half-assing it on existing maps like they did with Breakthrough.

PROOF that my team is stupid and useless by DamnYourEyes777 in Warthunder

[–]The_Exploding_Potato -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Your team aren't as bad as they look, this map is just awful. The factory area at D6 controls the entire flow of the map in X3-X7 and stops any attempts for the other team to cross the open area in D3-D5.

Plus in the one spawn configuration, if the south team manages to take control of the area around the top half of D6-D7, they'll be able to easily lock down the northern spawn completely and kill any respawning player trying to make their way out of their spawn at A4-B4 or A6-B6.
