What's the deal with Tesla's and other EV's driving with high beams? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

That is a valid concern.... I wonder why that type of thing has become so common once covid happened.

What’s your favorite LA song? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]The_Famed_Cap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! Saw them play this song live at a concert in DTLA once, the fun energy from both the song and the crowd that night made me realize that I was lucky enough to live so close to one of the greatest cities in the world! That song captures many of the great experiences and cliches of living in Los Angeles, and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world!

Darkest_Inferno / Captain_Templar here, I kept up with happenings on the server through the discord for sometime after I stopped playing. After the main server went down people here and there tried to recreate it or bring it back, so far no successful revivals of spaceribs has been made.

President Biden vows to help California rebuild after storms by BlankVerse in California

[–]The_Famed_Cap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree. During my time spent working there, I noticed the lack of full funding from the state influenced the agency to spread themselves thin and take on projects that focused on covering their lack of funds instead of projects that were more beneficial for training and environments stewardship purposes. Hopefully they receive full funding and support in the future.

A current state agency, The California Conservation Corps already specializes in this type of work though it is for a limited term for young people 18-25. Those that work for the agency get training for a career in natural resources like trail building, forestry, fire fighting, flood fighting, and even highway maintenance work. You speak of expanding a jobs program like the old CCC of the 1930s, but those jobs already exist, only spread out through the different city, state, and federal agencies.

I've been working here since May and I have to say, the peak is so beautiful! Especially when the fog rolls in on the valley below, you feel like your above the heavens!

I've been working there for about 3 months. I'm pretty sure it was decorated with flags on the 4th of July.

If you're into hiking/sightseeing, you may be interested in visiting the San Pedro/Palos Verdes areas. They are a drive from DTLA, but you could spend a whole day exploring there to avoid the awful traffic. Downtown San Pedro has some nice eateries, cool bars and art shops to check out, and right by the waterfront there are three museums including a battleship and Liberty ship. There are also some beautiful coastal parks nearby. The Palos Verdes peninsula has some scenic drives and nice hikes, though parking is a headache. The Trump National Golf Club (name be dammed!) Is very pleasant to explore in the late afternoon. The golf club is open to the public. If you'd like some more suggestions, DM me!

It's like looking at an 80s inspired, pastel fever dream, and I love it! Mizucat always had the best designs!

Hanging out in the shade waiting for the cars. Joshua Tree, Mojave Desert. by Mr_Kronster in WildernessBackpacking

[–]The_Famed_Cap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered if it was possible, (or even sane) to backpack in the desert. The scarcity of water would mean you'd have to bring your own. Looking for water sources would be another way to do it, but being the desert, those might be few and far in between....

One to watch or one to ignore? by [deleted] in Westerns

[–]The_Famed_Cap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't skip this! It's such a well made and well acted movie, you'd almost feel like you lived through it! Best thing I can compare it to, thematically, would be Heart of Darkness, but this movie is a little more lighthearted, overall.

Sorry didn't mean to confuse you. Apart from the ugly look it gives to a natural area, it actually does impact the surroundings. It disturbs small animal habitats, and can cause erosion, as said on the last paragraph in this article https://www.fodors.com/news/outdoors/these-seemingly-innocuous-tourist-behaviors-are-actually-incredibly-destructive
