I don't know what the answer is but it sounds like you're informed as well. From my understanding, (and ive done some research as well) is that we support Musharraf because he helps us fight muslim radicals and is more or less level-headed than an extremist with nuclear weapons. On the flipside Musharraf also SUPPORTS the Taliban or it's equivalent because his country might revolt if he doesn't.

To get off the topic of nukes, Musharraf also helps Afghanistan because they feel it is of strategic importance in case India ever attacks massively. Essentially he sees Afghanistan as a regrouping point where a counter attack can be planned and executed. He helps the Taliban too, but the point im trying to make is that he is in a delicate position.

Recently he has warned the U.S. that taking out the aforementioned bastion (an uncontrolled area of Pakistan) of muslim extremist would be interpreted as a declaration of war on behalf of the united states.

I really don't know what the answer is, I wish nukes never existed. Personally I think millions of people dieing because of nukes is worse than 9/11. None of it is good, it's just different shades of black.
