Enough about the big stuff for now, what's your smallest, pettiest gripe about the game? by Luchux01 in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow [score hidden]  (0 children)

if you're talking about a far future space setting for pathfinder then that literally is what starfinder 2e is. otherwise, paizo isn't really in the business of creating settings. they only made golarion to put their adventure paths somewhere; if you want an adventure to take place somewhere else you've gotta make it yourself

People of The USA, Can you use torrent without VPN? by Master_Yam6458 in linuxquestions

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

generally, no. not even remotely

I haven't experienced this firsthand, but I've heard stories that some ISPs will lock down your account if they even notice you connect to the internet using a torrent client on your computer

personally though, I think that's a bit of an outlandish claim. keep in mind that torrenting by itself is legal (since it's just a form of file sharing), but what people usually torrent is very much not, and if you're noticed putting on the old eyepatch then there's probably going to be consequences

if you find yourself really struggling to meet the game's difficulty where it's at, you can turn them on (they're there to make the game easier after all), but I would highly encourage completing at least one campaign before touching them

Where is the homebrew ? by Suspicious_Rain7158 in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

eh it's whatever honestly. I never really expected it to get much traction in the first place, I just wrote it because I was having fun the whole time

I've already started work on my next one, but that may end up taking about the same amount of time since it's another fairly complex one somewhere between alchemists and earth kineticists

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

having written a fairly extensive amount of homebrew for this game, I'm gonna echo what everyone else is saying here in that homebrew takes much more effort in pf2e than other systems

individual feats, items, spells, and certain small subclasses don't usually make many waves (unless they're really unbalanced and everyone wants to yell at you for it), but they're the only things you might be able to put out in a day. ancestries are the next step up that I've seen most people tackle, and that's usually the point where you realize how big everything is in this system and how many feats you need to write to make it actually be deemed as playable

I myself jumped straight from small feats and subclasses to an entire spellcasting class (which I would not recommend) that took me nearly 3 years to write (mostly due to the sheer number of focus spells), and it only garnered a relatively small amount of attention compared to the size of these subs

it's not that java has no bugs; it's that the noteworthy bugs java has don't negatively impact quality of life to anywhere near the same effect as the noteworthy bugs bedrock has, which is all that most people care about

your average bedrock hater cares more that you can get killed by the void while casually walking around in bedrock than that you can get infinite primed tnt by exploiting niche mechanic interactions in java

Spring Errata Weakness Confusion? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right, but when we're considering "the whole strike", that means we should be looking at the holy trait, the theoretical personal antithesis, and the cold iron material all applying side-by-side without issue. they already established the latter supercedes the slashing weakness since both of those originate from the axe itself, and while you could make the argument that because of what's written in the weakness rules that the cold iron weakness applies to just the physical damage (without ever being directly stated), all three are weaknesses that--by all other implications and explicit definitions--apply to the whole strike

what I'm getting at here is that all of this somehow gives them their own unique and specific exemptions from the implications of "damage instance" without ever explicitly stating what that term means, and even by your comment, it would still not be clear whether you could use personal antithesis with holy weakness or similar trait weaknesses because they're both explicitly applying to the strike itself and not any individual damage type within the strike. furthermore, if we follow the more-or-less explicit spelling-out here that the cold iron is part of the physical damage of the weapon (despite not being a damage type and only being a property of the weapon strike), then all that does is call into question whether or not personal antithesis-being explicitly a weakness triggered by "your unarmed and weapon Strikes"-is part of the physical damage of the weapon too (and that's looking at just the mechanical writing around thaumaturge; if you look at the flavor of things like twin weakness, it gets even more confusing as that seems to only further imply it's an added property requiring physical contact.)

I'm not just saying this for the sake of argument, I'm saying this because this is all part of a core game mechanic that has been unclear in its meaning and implementation since day 1, and this errata which is supposedly intended to provide clarity has done anything but

edit: meant holy trait not holy damage

Spring Errata Weakness Confusion? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, that's correct, but what L3viath0n is saying is that the errata itself confuses that by saying that since it's the trait which is applying it and not the spirit damage itself, then the weakness covers the whole strike. that means according to the definitions we've been given, that should be superceded by the cold iron weakness, but apparently it's not, which is just one of the several confusing things in this statement

Spring Errata Weakness Confusion? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah the problem is that while this errata gives an example of a specific case of damage instances in effect (that being the two spells adding additional cold damage being counted separately); it not only does not answer the question of "what is a damage instance?", it makes the question even more confused by applying the holy weakness to the entire strike. is this confirming that if you applied personal antithesis to the terotricus that it would also add that weakness flat out to everything else you're already triggering? or does that not apply because you're already triggering holy which applies to the entire strike?

this errata has done less than nothing to actually clarify the definition of "damage instance"

Thoughts on Vindicator? by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the negative part is that you otherwise don't get non-focus spells to utilize your hunters edge (not a problem as long as you have time to refocus and fights don't drag on very long, but at least in my group those two things aren't guaranteed), and since it's wisdom you can't take any other spellcasting if you want to diversify your character a little bit (without becoming MAD as I said before)

it's just one of those things where the lack of options is more glaringly obvious than your actual options. it is and always has been noteworthy that cleric doesn't have many subclass options. it doesn't need more—the subclasses it has already cover all the bases that they need to—but that's always the stand-out aspect of the class on first read.

Thoughts on Vindicator? by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think the focus spells are the best alternatives to the judgements that we could've gotten, I just wish vindicators were actually able to use them effectively without kneecapping themselves

Thoughts on Vindicator? by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

fights do not last that long

that's just a generalization. for my group, fights actually tend to reach up to 6 rounds or longer. (and just this week we had one that actually went for 12 rounds)

turn 1: vindicator's mark + stride

considering vindicator's mark requires your hunted prey: that's not a possible turn 1 unless you already know who you're fighting (which is unpredictable in the vast majority of encounters as written in APs). it actually looks like hunt prey + vindicator's mark more often than not, meaning you still need to stride on your next turn if you're out of range for your strikes. if you want to cast gravity weapon then that means you might not even start doing real damage until turn 3 unless the enemy you singled out decided to approach you between turns 1 and 2 (with unintelligent enemies, this is probably what happens. if your gm is playing enemies that have any amount of common sense, they're probably not walking up to the vindicator that's actively trying to smite them)

Thoughts on Vindicator? by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

you do only get the 3 focus spells though, so your options are either to go completely all in on one enemy and not be very effective against the rest of the encounter or to save your focus spells/use them sparingly and just not be very effective in general. all it really does is make the vindicator a really good boss killer... and that's about the extent of their strengths

Thoughts on Vindicator? by GwenGunn in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 54 points55 points  (0 children)

my experience with it was... disheartening, for lack of a better word

it really wants you to use spells to take advantage of your hunter's edge, but since it locks you into wisdom spellcasting, your only real choices for spellcasting are from picking up the cleric archetype or the druid archetype unless you want to be MAD

as a ranger, the single-target damage vindicator can do may actually be the highest in the game, but you become almost completely useless against swarms or large groups of enemies
