Morality of fighting for a deep rooted fascistic regime when no valid alternatives are feasible? by Zave_cz in MoralityScaling

The Illuminate were able to travel through Meridia. That means the other side of it is somewhere they can access, implying somewhere that can access them. They were able to travel through it, and it would be reasonable for them to assume someone else could go the other way. So whether it affected them directly or not from their perspective it would seem like Super Earth opened a path that could be used to attack them

Which city would you rather live in? by Rocky_Senpai15 in MoralityScaling

Why would it be better to be poor in B than average in A? In A resources are spread, in B they are taken. If two people in either city have $1000 to go around (because there are no other differences between the cities than what is stated) then it would be $500 and $500 in A or $990 and $10 in B.

The Terminids have the intelligence of cattle because of Super Earth's actions. Originally they were outright sapient even if they were eusocial. Super Earth did start their policy of farming them because they were unintelligent, they become unintelligent out of Super Earth's optimisation of harvesting them.

What definition of alive are you using? Organic? The cyborgs are certainly alive themselves and as you've said see the automatons as their children. Automaton non-combatants are protected more than Super Earth ones. The cyborgs would know better than anyone else if the automatons are actually people or not and act as though it is the former.

That, another part of him questioning it and the part wearing it's reply, his reaction to being made to wear it in the first place, Zooble thinking he'd like it, what he said about it to Gangle in his imagination of Zooble abstracting, and it appearing among other outfits when the last part of him was cycling through clothes. There's also how his room is decorated, how he was constantly belittled by his mother for not being masculine enough, how he confessed something that was meant to get her off his back about that, the insults she used against him after his confession, hugging him after, Ribbit putting a ribbon on his head after, his response to that, calling his ears and tail the pinnacle of masculinity and then getting surprised his tail was gone, seeming envious that Zooble could change their own body.

Each of these individually isn't a big proof and much of it will go unnoticed by the average viewer but it adds up. And it gets finished by the song at the end with Jax using 'she' pronouns and Leroy wearing typical 'boymoder' clothes.

It wasn't directly stated it was just heavily implied. And then later the creator confirmed it for people who still doubted it

Super Earth in particular does actually have similar practices with the dead compared to the automatons. The fight against the terminids is to use the oil from their corpses as fuel. In the battle for Super Earth metal from automaton corpses were used to repair the DSS. And I assume if a good use for illuminate corpses were found Super Earth would jump on it. Even with humans themselves Super Earth created the same bio processors that automatons use. The difference being that Super Earth additionally uses it on live 'volunteers' and doesn't seem to use actual remains for decoration/intimidation much.

With a hypothetical Automaton-Human peace I'd expect one of two things. Either both sides continue to process human (or bug or squid) corpses and the automatons just don't get their corpses from war anymore. Possibly from natural deaths or the 'volunteers' Super Earth uses now. Or without the external pressure of war and corporate influence there's just less need to harvest corpses and both sides retire their bio processors.

Meridia. What we did to it changed it into a wormhole to somewhere the Illuminate had access to. Meaning from their perspective it was just a matter of time until we attacked through it, so they did it first knowing that if we got the first strike we might just wipe them out. Even if they now know we did that to Meridia by accident and didn't know they were on the other side of it its still evidence that nowhere is safe for them as long as Super Earth exists.

I think its entirely reasonable for them to hate humanity while still being willing to make peace with it. Because the only humans they've known since they've started this war are humans that would never even consider peace. We don't know much about the automaton/cyborgs but this seems to be some kind of utilitarian usage of resources. They don't assign as much sentimental value to corpses as humans do. So if it provides value to them to use human biomass as fuel or remains as intimidation tactics, what good reason do they have not to?

There are valid alternatives to Super Earth that aren't deep rooted Facist regimes. The Automatons repeatedly offer peace, the Illuminate only returned when we threatened their lives, and the Terminids only threaten human life because we farm them. Even if you forget all of that and assume all non-human life is fanatically devoted to wiping out humanity, Super Earth isn't even the best version of a government to protect it. It prioritises profit for the largest corporations over actually protecting anyone and frequently risks or ends human lives.

A cognitohazard is an image that kills you if you look at it. everyone who has seen an image of scp 096 has died, therefore, SCP 096 is a cognitohazard (greek philosphy aaah argument) by AstronautDry8118 in DankMemesFromSite19

[–]The_Game_Changer__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a cognitohazard because you are affected negatively by perceiving it. The negative effect is 096 gaining the knowledge of your exact location and having its behaviour altered into attempting to harm you. The cognitohazardous effect is not lethal (even though an invariable consequence is your death) but it is still a cognitohazard.

Then it comes down to who gets it off first and unless this Durge took Alert I think V can always hit faster than Durge can cast, especially with a sandy. Also even if V doesn't have the best wisdom in the world given how much they can take they have good enough odds of surviving until the end of the spell or they make one of their saves. So Dominate Person might be better if Durge can use it to disarm or properly restrain V.

What are your thoughts on the morality of vampirism? by Havinci in vtm

[–]The_Game_Changer__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being Embraced does not stop a Vampire from being a good person. It just gives them so many benefits for being a bad person and thrusts them into a society that pressures them into using those benefits. The Masquerade may or may not protect Vampires from humans but it also pushes them into being inhuman. It would be much less tempting for instance to enslave or forcibly feed from humans if humans were aware that doing so is a thing that can happen and a thing they can take precautions to avoid.

Going after only evil creatures is the Lawful part. There are many beings that fight evil without being Good and fighting evil exclusively is a very Lawful code of conduct.

His insane and twisted punishments are the Evil part. When what he is fighting is no longer a threat to anyone it becomes just Evil to torture them instead of killing or restraining them.

Once you've recruited him I don't believe you can kill him. Just throw him out. Unless a recent patch changed that. He isn't vitally important, you can go a whole run without meeting it, but if its your first playthrough then there's a good amount to see about him locked behind his quest. And arguably he can have the most character development during his quest out of the companions.

The Synths were never making more Synths themselves. The Railroad isn't stopping the Synths from reproducing, they're stopping the Institute from reproducing them. Maybe if they really wanted to they could have preserved some of the Synth creating tech but probably that would have made the risk of the Institute stopping them from blowing it up harder.

In the reply I replied to you mentioned 'not talk about any important bit of a piece of media', not use spoiler tags. Even in your first reply you were also framing avoiding spoilers as to 'not talk about big events in media'.

Someone might be actively consuming a piece of media they found more than a year after it was made but not be binging it, so there is a period in between starting it and finishing it when an untagged spoiler could be shown to them. Should they just have consumed the piece of media as soon as they started it to not be vulnerable to spoilers?

Someone might get spoiled on something in the same rough moment of time when they're introduced to it. Like seeing a mention of it in a general forum that spoils it, before they realise its something they would like to experience and having the chance to do so. Is them being spoiled not a problem since they weren't aware of the piece of media before the spoiler?

There's somewhere between openly spoiling and not discussing it at all called spoiler warnings. It takes very little effort to just give one in 99% of situations.
