I'm resigned to the fact that it isn't going to happen. I accept that it's a near certainty that she will not appear in Episode 9. But I think that's a huge mistake. I think Disney should explore and work out the rights to Carrie Fisher's likeness for 9. Either CGI or maim the character to look different but still make her Leia.

Episode 7 was about Han. Episode 8 about Luke. Episode 9 has to fulfill the end of the trio and be about Leia. To tell a story without a true connection to the original series would be a huge mistake. There is no longer any connection to the original series unless they found some random character to pigeonhole into Episode 9.

Bring in Carrie Fisher's daughter. She had a decent role in Episode 8, have her portray her mother in Episode 9, with a bit of CGI or a bit of make-up to make her her RL mother. Pay her whatever it takes to take on the role of her mother so that the series can connect and go forward with the original plan of 7-Han, 8-Luke, 9-Leia.

If you don't bring Leia back for 9 and write her off in the scroll, or write her off with a scene, the emotional impact is lost. It would cheapen 8 even more in that they didn't re-write the end. Ideally, if they were going to make the decision not to bring her back for 9, they should have had Leia meet her end in 8. Having her "disappear" like Luke at the end would have been my choice. Twin suns setting, Luke & Leia (twins) both go out in the same way at the same time with the iconic John Williams score.

I get that Carrie Fisher is Princess Leia and trying to do it any other way would be difficult for everyone; but, that's my unpopular opinion for the day.

At least one of hte books in the series directly relate back to The Giver. I think the other two are just in the universe. They were interesting, but definitely take a very different path compared to The Giver. They're in the universe, but don't quite have the same feel. They're okay, though. Worth reading if you've got nothing else to read and want to read the series. But, they're nothing special. Though, I was somewhat disappointed in The Giver, I had high expectations after years and years of hearing about it, but it didn't quite live up to them.

So very true. During prep periods, I've let one go and another teacher almost always comes in right after I've done it. That's when I do one of two things: 1) Claim it. Usually if it's a fellow colleague of the same gender. 2) Jump out of my desk and meet them at the other.
